Sleeping on top of a coffee plantation

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Mar 3, 2019
This place has really amazed us as we were so close to nature. When you stay in a bamboo tree house you really are very closely connected to the forest. Our hosts, Neema and Rajesh are extremely friendly even when they are hard at work on the coffee plantation. It was really lovely walking around the plantation and seeing it run. Neema was also able to arrange a private tour where we were able to see tea plantations, a bamboo workshop, and go on a nature hike to a mountain village. One of the best things was sitting on the porch of our hut every morning and looking out over a deep valley in the western ghats wilderness, where we could look down on Eagles hunting, and hear Elephants cry out down in the valley. The meals were excellent as well. I would highly recommend.

We stayed there for 3 nights - the house looks really nice. Its an ancient family house that was nicely renovated. The house and the surrounding garden and farm, the scenery near by worth getting there. Yet the rooms are very simple and not very clean. the bed linens don't smell very good, towels look like they had better times. Food is OK not more. Owners are welcoming and nice

Room tip: Stay in the second floor the big rooms are nicer

Wayanaad is a beautiful place to enjoy the rains and Aranyakam makes the experience ecstatic. Situated in a small village by name Vallatur, it's a 3hr scenic drive from Calicut-kozikode airport. Once you are in Aranyakam you won't feel like venturing out anywhere. The home is aesthetically unique with green surroundings, nicely manicured and decorated to enhance the beauty. It is situated in the middle of vast coffee plantations (Beware of leeches). They also have tree houses with stunning views of the mountains and valleys. The hosts Rajesh and Neema are very friendly and hospitable. Neema is an amazing cook and will feed you with lip-smacking authentic keralite dishes. Rajesh is an adventure. The rates are very reasonable. It's a perfect home away from home!

Aranyakam is a beautiful choice for comfort, great food, inspiring environment and superb hospitality. Neema and Rajesh extend their traditional family hospitality to all their guests, and are warm and welcoming, spending time to get to know us. We enjoyed their welcome and their company for two days, and then could not resist returning for another two days as we drove north again. The house is very lovely: our spacious room had a lovely private verandah facing west, and there is a wide shared verandah to sit and watch the sun rising over the hills. Thank you, Neema and Rajesh!
