This one is difficult. While set in exquisite natural beauty, the grounds of the hotel is neglected to a point of disbelief.

The pathways in the beautiful natural forest had not been maintained in months. No sweeping, no removal of branches in said pathways, the odd empty liquor bottle and the like.

While the hotel itself has a rustic sense of old world charm, the self catering units, although fairly new, are not maintained. Blown light bulbs, loose taps, ragged towels and blankets with holes are all par for the course.

The whole experience is of a derelict rundown place in spectacular natural beauty.

If you have to visit Hogsback, rather stay somewhere else, and make a point not to miss the superb Eco Shrine.

The good: The units are well kitted out (except for sharp knives), the blankets are warm and the location is good - lovely forests all around.
The bad: strong musty smell inside. The kitchen cupboard drawers nearly needed a crowbar to open. Overall a decent place to spend a few nights with all the facilities of the hotel available.

Spend one night and found it pleasant and enjoyable - beautiful garden that comes alive with all the bird noises! Stayed in a standard hotel room - rates include dinner and breakfast. The room itself was clean with a comfortable bed. The bath and shower separate - what a pleasure to shower with enough hot water and a steady stream - do not have to jump around in the shower to get wet!! The food was good - what you expect from a good old fashioned country hotel. Being in the mountains it gets cold at night but the hotel is well prepared for that with a roaring fire in the dining room and electric blankets with a heater in your room. Staff overall friendly.

The Arminel Kat Leisure Hotel...is a beautiful, truly Hogsback setting, especially the Self-catering units are well positioned and in perfect symmetry with the wooded area of the gardens of the Hotel. The
self-catering certainly adds value, the visionary, Mickey Osner had envisaged..well done to a an extra ordinary man....Hogsbacks accommodation sorted...no time to venture out onto the hiking or biking trails which are a plenty...and loose yourself in the vastness of the Little Switzerland effect...go and enjoy the local fare at the pubs...or Eatery or if you feel like staying in you can book a meal in advance with the staff in the lovely dinning room...have a quiet drink in the well presented Bar or Lounge in front of a lovely open fire place...all hours to discover....Just do Hogsback...its definitely a Bucket List Experience too..

Set in the mountains of Hogsback, this resort was exceptional. My colleagues and I were accommodated in a 2 bedroomed upstairs/downstairs chalet.

The kitchen was well equipped and the state of the art creature comforts of home left nothing left to be desired. The conference facilities were exceptional for what SAYTC (South African Youth Tourism Council) needed and all the requirements were met without a single hiccup.
