Once again we stayed with Hanne and Leif at Gillbank and once again we had a super visit. Breakfasts are lovely, house is spotless and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Room 2 has a four poster. A very relaxing base for a holiday in Dumfries and Galloway.

Our room was downstairs in this amazing building and there was access to the car park from downstairs which was ideal. The proprietors Mr and Mrs Gronberg could not have made us feel more welcome. Everything was exceptionally clean and inviting. The decor was appealing and beds were super comfortable...bed linen was crisp and new. We enjoyed the lovely hot shower and the towels were plush and plenty of them. The B&B is central Thornhill and convenient to Drumlanrig Castle and Dumfries.
We stayed one night and breakfast was included...it was delicious and there was a choice on offer. Compliments have to go to this lovely couple for their hospitality and good cooking skills!!! Thank you both very much.

I stay in the area regularly visiting on business .there are an extensive choice of rural places along Nithsdale and the a76 but the only nice town is Thornhill . So a B&B is my choice when I stay at Thornhill so I can enjoy eating out on the town or a couple of ales in the quant pubs .I like the attention you get at gillbank house nothing is to much trouble . All rooms are on ensuite . Choice of newspapers in the morning and an excellent breakfast . Secure parking and quite rooms .this is a step beyond normal B&B standards

Hanne and Lief Gronberg run a wonderful hotel which occupies a modernised immaculate Victorian House in the busy town of Thornhill.
They are gracious hosts who can not do enough to ensure your stay is comfortable in large well appointed en-suite bedrooms and public rooms.
Bespoke delicious breakfasts are personally prepared and served by your hosts and should you also require an evening meal then the Gronbergs also own the nearby Thornhill Inn.
I visit the area regularly and will only stay at Gillbank with its secure off street parking. Enough said.

Room tip: All rooms are excellent .... but there is no lift.

We stayed here for two nights in August. It's in the town itself where there are a few small shops and nice places to eat. Out and about there are a few things to see including Drumlanrig Castle, the Lowther Hills, the Striding Arches, Leadhills railway and Wanlockhead mining museum.

The B and B itself is traditionally and sumptuously decorated. The hosts are warm and welcoming. Breakfasts are tasty and plentiful (you can always ask for more if you want but no point in wasting food). The attached wetroom made life much easier, a very good idea. Not sure about previous reviews about uncomfortable beds and tiny breakfasts, these issues must have been resolved as we were very pleased with our stay :)
