We visited Sumilon Island in the summer of 08. With a group of 8 people ranging from 21-60 years old. We left from Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. We took a ferry ride to Cebu, then transferred to a Sires Coach bus, which dropped us off infront of the check in site for Sumilon on the Oslob side. The whole commute took us about 45 minutes, and cost about $1 US dollar. We were greeted with cold drinks and shade in the waiting area for the boat which took us to the island. For about $30 US, we had access to the whole island, use of the snorkeling, water equipment, and lunch provided, (choice of either chicken, fresh caught fish, steak, or squid). The best part of the island is it's isolation, privacy, and beautiful surroundings. After lunch, some of us hiked the island, which did take about 30 minutes, and I did get bit by mosquitos alot. But I did bring my handy Canadian Mountie approved bug repellent, so it wasn't as bad. Besides, today my bug bites are gone, but I still have my pictures, and they do say a thousand words. It is hot in the Visayas, and there will always be bugs..... I didn't sleep over, so I can't comment, but with the plethora of beautiful places to see in the Visayas, we had to move on.
