you'll find yourself very lucky to have a chance to stay at villa di piazzano. the villa and surrounding property are beautiful. rooms are wonderfully decorated, very spacious and clean with modern bathrooms and fantastic views. the villa was restored about 10 years ago to very high standards. its so lovely! the owner and staff are very gracious and welcoming and always willing to give directions, make recommendations. it is obvious they take great pride in their hotel. we enjoyed dinner in the restaurant two nights. they serve freshly made, delicious tuscan food and the presentation is quite impressive. villa di piazzano is a short 10 minute drive into cortona and centrally located to many hill towns of tuscany and umbria. stay here! you will be glad you did. its a gem and a great value!!! this hotel has everything you are looking for (and more) in your tuscan vacation.

First of all this villa is not in Cortona well not in the town of Cortona but the town of Pergo. It is incredibly beautiful and would be an ideal spot for a honeymoon, or romantic getaway. It is gorgeous We spent a day just relaxing there after two weeks all over Italy. The rooms are gorgeous, the grounds are charming, the staff is wonderful. Francesca, a manager and all around major helper is an absolute doll. The negative if any is that the dinner we had was not great, and it is about 10 minutes from Cortona. It is definitely upscale and in a way can be viewed as pretentious. But all in all a very memorable stay.

Room tip: Stay in the main part of the hotel. Loved our top floor queen sized room. Just perfect

Dear Guest,

Many thanks for taking the time to give your personal account of your stay at Villa di Piazzano. I would just like to clarify what you state in regards to our location. Pergo is not a town, but comes under the municipality of Cortona. The fact that we are not in Cortona proper is mentioned in all the websites on internet, but I agree that when travelling some degree of distraction could result in an oversight of the exact location. Normally the short drive into town is not a problem for both guests with their own cars and those using taxis. Needless to say, if a guest is expecting to walk out and find himself in the middle of town then this is definitely not the right location. But being outside the town also has its advantages. We are surrounded by incredibly beautiful countryside. Our guests often tell us that the drive down our ancient cypress tree road is something quite spectacular. When you arrive at the hotel, parking is not a problem. The estate is surrounded by beautiful and extensive gardens, has a panoramic terrace and a very nice pool (still open at the end of October thanks to the weather), all included in the room rate. In the mornings one enjoys the chirping of birds as opposed to street noise. So the choice of location really just depends on one’s priorities. We offer a very detailed map on our website, as well as GPS coordinates, and welcome all future guests to view this information prior to travelling. I am also sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the dinner but do not provide any further information on this point. I welcome you to write to me directly should you have any suggestions as to how we can improve.

Kind regards,

Alessandra Wimpole

Beautiful old estate of a Cardinal. Not far from Cortona and centrally located. The room was big, king sized bed, large bathroom. Stayed in the Cardinale Suite. Breakfast was bountiful. Had dinner there two nights. Chef - Gabriella prepared an excellent and varied menu. Great wine list. We will definitely stay there again. Spent 2 nights, should have stayed 3.

Room tip: Cardinale Suite.

We stayed at this hotel for eight nights from 9-17 September 2012. The hotel and grounds are exquisite and the staff could not be more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. I would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful hotel. We easily visited Montepulciano, Gubbio, Cortona, Arezzo and all the towns surrounding Lake Trasimeno e.g. Castiglione De Lago. If you wish to eat out of the hotel, I would recommend La Tufa in Ossaia for an excellent pizza at an extremely reasonable price.

Room tip: I would choose a room with the largest windows. We had a junior suite.

The Villa di Piazzano has a fascinating history of being a hunting lodge for a Catholic Cardinal and later and a convent for Catholic nuns. The Villa in the country surrounded by beautiful fields and hills. It is about 10-15 minutes drive to Cortona and 2-3 minutes to Prego. The grounds are spacous and include a large outdoor swimming pool which is very usable during the day in later September.

Our room was spacious and very comfortable. The restaurant serves very good evening meals but not lunches. The breakfast which was include with out room package was excellent with a variety of meats, fruits, croissants, and cakes.

We highly recommend this hotel if you are in the Cortona area.

Room tip: Our room was on the 2nd floor overlooking the gardens and fields in front of the Villa. We were directly under the roof with open beams in ceiling.
