Gęś w dymie is real treasure of Lesser Poland voivodeship. Chef Marcin Pławecki is not only an owner and cook of the place - he also runs his own farm with gooses, ducks, chickens and whole parcel of plants. Those highest quality products combines smoothly on plates, when in hands of Marcin. IMO the meals are inspired by polish cuisine mostly, but you can also find a french touch in it.
We have been there three times, and we were pleased every single time.
We tried goose leg, pate, snails, steak, raw duck brest and many, many more. Highly recommended

It’s not uncommon in Europe to find world-class restaurants deep in the country, but granted how development of Polish culinary culture was slowed down by the communism, in Poland when you’re away from big cities and looking for something great to eat, you’re screwed (in 90% of cases). Laskowa and Gęś w dymie are a blessed exception: it’s a restaurant that is not only worth stopping by, it’s worth travelling to! I arrive without previous notice in the middle of the week so I almost miss my chance to get a dinner (it’s best to book) but it turns out it’s not a problem to order. I get chłodnik, i.e. cold beetroot soup and breaded veal schnitzel with green beans, new potatoes and a fried duck egg. After a long day I feel like homey, comfort food. Both things turn out to be way more than ‘homey’. What rules in the restaurant is high quality product: there are no random suppliers here, whatever you get was either farmed on the spot (ducks, geese, eggs) or bought from the people the owners have long worked with which is a guarantee of quality that results in rich, full flavours. I’m the only person having dinner that night so I had a chance to chat with the owners and I must say you rarely meet people who are so passionate and devoted to what they do. Marcin Pławecki, the chef, is a fount of knowledge on Polish cuisine and, despite running a restaurant that is not in a big city, is fully aware of all current trends and fads in gastronomy, so you don’t feel like you’re having a great “grandma-made” meal. No, what you get is a 100% modern restaurant experience.

Absolutely genious authentic Polish cuisine! Gęś w Dymie is an exceptional restaurant with heart and soul. Head chef/ owner Marcin Pławecki is serving poultry from his own farm and fresh fruit and veggies from his garden which is literally behind the restaurant. The menu is changing frequently so make sure you check it on Facebook. Important thing: make a reservation, let them know that you are coming!

Delicious tagliatelle with beef meatballs :) Short card and new menu every week. Will get back there for sure.

Slow food philosophy - reservation is necessary

This is the first time I have eaten a truly magnificent traditionally polish cuisine with a modern twist. Chef has managed the nearly impossible feat of successfully merging traditional and sophisticated polish dishes with modern cooking techniques typically reserved for posh hightown venues, and on top of that all ingredients are of highest possible quality, home grown, or from local slow food, organic vendors. The results are more than superb, it is by far the best restaurant I have recently visited, even more surprisingly since it is placed in gorgeous hilly and rural landscapes of Beskid Wyspowy, 60km outside Cracow. Only downside might be not too fancy furbishment and relaxed pace of extremely friendly service, but it is a part of the charm. It is an absolute must-try!
