We stayed here in February 2016 for 2 nights when it was run by the previous owners/occupiers and were so impressed with every aspect of the operation that we included another stop over on this trip for 3 nights in January 2018.
Beautiful accomodation, well equipped, stunning sea views with the local pod of Hectors Dolphins playing in the surf. Ideal location and very far from the maddening crowds and a great place to stay. Just beautiful.
Nowdays neither the Owners nor the Manageress, Melissa, are on site 24/7 and so on arrival your room is open and they key inside. Milk in the fridge and all the neccessary items on display. Unfortuately now there are some "buts" which did not arise under the previous owners.
We stayed for 3 nights and on the morning of the 3rd day neither our room, nor were those of the other two apartments where the occupants stayed on for another night were serviced. I tried to use the phone on the hall table, next to a sheet of paper with the phone number of the Manageress, to ring her to try and resolve the issue. I was locked out as I did not have a code number to access an outside line. Not very helpful
The Guests Information Book is next to useless providing no information relative to the operation of the apartments. I have a dual sim phone with both a UK and NZ sim. Neither worked in Curio Bay. If there was an medical emergency, a water leak, a fire etc; we had no form of communication with the outside World, save bang on the door of the house next door and ask to use their phone.
The "Free WiFi", once you log in does not allow you to log out, so your 8 consecutive hours keeps running even if you turn off your wifi. Perhaps there is a way around this...information in the Guests Book might help. To obtain more wifi you are required to ring an 0800 number to buy more.....really!!!! how much a minute to call on UK mobile, if I had a signal.
To use the laundry facilities we had to ask the Manageress as the room was locked on our arrival. No problem and we were not asked to pay. And the payment for our stay we paid using a credit card so no issues there either
For the price of the accomodation the wifi should be totally free 24/7. The Guests Information Book needs a serious revamp and the ability to contact the Manageress made a lot easier by providing Guests with the house phone acess code.
