We only stayed one night here in one of the queen studios on the Solstice ground floor. What a lovely place. Nobody was there to greet us but there is a note at the entrance which tells each guest which room they have. There you'll find your key and everything is there for you. Melissa the manager can be reached by phone if need be. You open your back door and there is beautiful Curio bay. A lovely beach with surfers and often Hector's dolphins play here. Everything is very clean and modern, Wi-Fi is free and strong and the room and bathroom have good size. We loved the place.

Spent 3 nights here. Weather both good and bad but it was a wonderful place, The accomodation was clean and comfortable. There was loads of space and a well equipped kitchenette. The Windows looked right onto the beach, the gardens leading directly to the beach. The best thing was the connection for the beach, Dolphins, sea lion, the waves in the bay, the atmosphere was wonderful when the weather was good and when it wasn't. The bathroom was also clean, modern and had all the usual facilities. The available rooms are different sizes to accommodate different needs. We used this as a base to travel in the Catlins and it was a great place to return to.

Room tip: Room one is the biggest with the best views though all the views are wonderful and provide great uninterrupted views of the beach.

I visited with family in December and didn’t want to leave. I stayed in a hotel room downstairs, and had family staying upstairs. The view is incredible. We were lucky to see pods of dolphins in the water right in front of the house. Beds and linen were very comfortable. Great kitchen and spacious living area upstairs. Manager was friendly and helpful. We had arrived to a note at the door for checking in, and while that was a first for me, it worked just fine. Curio Bay is remote so phone and internet reception isn’t as accessible as built up areas, but for me, switching off was part of the charm. Great for people who want to take in the beach and nature and surrounds and unplug. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

We stayed here in February 2016 for 2 nights when it was run by the previous owners/occupiers and were so impressed with every aspect of the operation that we included another stop over on this trip for 3 nights in January 2018.

Beautiful accomodation, well equipped, stunning sea views with the local pod of Hectors Dolphins playing in the surf. Ideal location and very far from the maddening crowds and a great place to stay. Just beautiful.

Nowdays neither the Owners nor the Manageress, Melissa, are on site 24/7 and so on arrival your room is open and they key inside. Milk in the fridge and all the neccessary items on display. Unfortuately now there are some "buts" which did not arise under the previous owners.

We stayed for 3 nights and on the morning of the 3rd day neither our room, nor were those of the other two apartments where the occupants stayed on for another night were serviced. I tried to use the phone on the hall table, next to a sheet of paper with the phone number of the Manageress, to ring her to try and resolve the issue. I was locked out as I did not have a code number to access an outside line. Not very helpful

The Guests Information Book is next to useless providing no information relative to the operation of the apartments. I have a dual sim phone with both a UK and NZ sim. Neither worked in Curio Bay. If there was an medical emergency, a water leak, a fire etc; we had no form of communication with the outside World, save bang on the door of the house next door and ask to use their phone.

The "Free WiFi", once you log in does not allow you to log out, so your 8 consecutive hours keeps running even if you turn off your wifi. Perhaps there is a way around this...information in the Guests Book might help. To obtain more wifi you are required to ring an 0800 number to buy more.....really!!!! how much a minute to call on UK mobile, if I had a signal.

To use the laundry facilities we had to ask the Manageress as the room was locked on our arrival. No problem and we were not asked to pay. And the payment for our stay we paid using a credit card so no issues there either

For the price of the accomodation the wifi should be totally free 24/7. The Guests Information Book needs a serious revamp and the ability to contact the Manageress made a lot easier by providing Guests with the house phone acess code.

What an awesome view we had of the ocean and golden sands from our room. A 7 minute walk to the petrified forest and we even got to see yellow eyed penguins come out of the ocean.
We had a large, well equipped modern unit which we thoroughly enjoyed staying in. I would definitely go back for a longer stay.
A couple of points: there is only one cafe within walking distance and no petrol station for many km, so fill the car before arriving and if you can get up before sunrise you might just see the little blue penguins head out of the bush to the ocean. Please remember to keep your distance and do not use flash photography.
