We had lower expectations based on some of the reviews from the last few months. Let's be frank, this hotel will definitely earn its self-rated 5 stars within weeks, not years.

Location - ideal as away from the hustle and bustle of Patong Beach and yet just a free shuttle ride away from it. 30 minutes taxi (600 THB) to Old Phuket town. If you're looking for a party resort, this is not for you. Sadly, the proximity to the road lets traffic noise come through to the room (block B level 4) but once the patio doors shut and the aircon on, it dissipates. On the topic of noise, there was a huge party on Paradise Beach one evening which ended towards midnight... Although located all the way across the bay we could hear it in our room as if it was just next door. Nothing the Wyndham staff could have done about it.

Staff - outstanding, courteous team. Nice introduction to the resort and our room. Tour booking desk with Vitamin Sea very helpful. Suggested to confirm booking and pick-up time the day before to avoid any disappointment.

Restaurant - Latitude 98. Breakfast buffet is beautifully presented, amazing variety and great quality.
Same restaurant for dinner didn't meet our "5 stars rating" expectations. The management team is working hard on perfecting its processes and routine. It's 70% there. The view compensates for a few kinks. The multiple featured restaurants can be misleading... "The Deck" and "The Deck Poolside Bar" is the same thing... and all source their food from... Latitude 98's kitchen. We tried a restaurant highly recommended by our taxi driver who brought us back from Blue Elephant (high end, amazing but pricey) and thought Baan Rim Pa Kalim would certainly meet our expectations... he was wrong, very wrong... it EXCEEDED by far our expectations to the point we went back there on our last night. Just 13 minutes walk from the resort.

Room - very clean, meticulous housekeeping team. Mattresses quite firm though. We're only in our early 40s and we both had neck and back pain after 5 nights :(

Pool - amazing view, amazing barmen, extensive cocktail list. Even a daily free show!... Elephants from the next door elephant trek operation can be viewed from the comfort of the pool walking back to their farm along the road every night and return every morning. Nice little touristic wow factor.

Summary - 4 stars resort but great potential for 5 stars now that the onsite Spa is about to open and the hotel management team irons out the minor kinks.

Dear Mat_The_Brat,

We are thankful for your time and your willingness to write such an honest review about your recent stay at Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay.

We are truly happy that you enjoyed the many aspects of the property. Our location is ideal to enjoy the amazing view of Patong Bay, early morning parade of elephants along the road and the close proximity to Patong.

Latitude 98 does offer a plethora of local and international dishes for breakfast. Our Executive Chef is working very hard with both Kitchen and Service team to meet the “5 stars rating” expectations. We are looking forward to opening of the rooftop restaurant, The Deck, in the near future. It will offer breakfast and dinner grill buffets with seafood and complement our poolside bar nicely. Most importantly, we are proud to hear our team was outstanding and courteous throughout your stay.

Again, thank you for providing honest feedback. Such a constructive review helps us tackle our challenges as we strive to achieve “5 stars” expectations.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Pearl of the Andaman in the near future.

Warmest regards from sunny Phuket,

We arrived the day of Songkran. At the airport we were approach by taxi cab divers offering their services. They told us the trip from the hiker airport would be about 1 1/2 hours and that it would cost 1700 baht. They said it would take longer than normal due to the celebrations. We agreed but once they loaded our luggage they wanted payment up front. I told them no. They agreed to drive us anyways. We got there in like 40 mins and they diver told me I owed him only 1500 baht because it didn't take that long. I paid him and even tipped him.

The check in at the hotel was simple and fast. Once we got to the room it took all day of running the air conditioning to get reduce the musty smell off the room. At checkin they told us that they gave us an upgrade- from what? I don't know. The room would be comparable to a comfort suites room. I went with a friend and it's kind of awkward when one of us had to use the bathroom because the door was louvered and you could hear and smell everything. The view from the balcony was nice but it was too hot to sit out there and watch the cars go by.

The hotel is not complete, there are multiple buildings and you have to remember which building you are in to know which floor you want to go to. The breakfast buffet is great but a bit pricey at 650 baht per person. We only at there one day. We ordered room service and that was good.

There is nothing to do around the hotel other than go to the bar across the street at the other hotel. You have to get a ride into Kamala or Patong. The taxi fare is 300 baht for Kamala and 400 baht for Patong. They do offer free shuttles to Patong beach and the shopping center in Patong. You probably should tell the hotel what time you want to come back because they apparently do not know what a schedule is. They have a schedule but they don't follow it- I know because we waited for an hour in the heat waiting for them at the shopping center and they never came. We ended up taking a taxi back. I really don't know why their is a shortage of drivers because there are plenty of workers loitering around the hotel doing nothing.

We paid about $60 a night. The price of the room was good for a name that we recognized but I would probably pay the extra $80 to stay in a luxury hotel closer to town. We just about paid that much in taxi fares.

Dear TripAdvisor Traveler,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your recent stay at Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay.

We are glad to hear the check-in was efficient and that you enjoyed the in-room service. However we are truly sorry your experience was not to your satisfaction in particular to the condition of the room, lack of signage at the property and the incident with the shuttle bus.

We have since made some adjustments and will continue doing everything we can to improve our standards, for you and for future guests.

We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back to Wyndham Grand Phuket in the near future.

Traveled half of the world already this has been one of my best experience of a hotel.

Great staff, friendly, knowledgeable, English speaking, well trained, over all great.

Beautiful rooms, clean, spacious, cozy, comfortable beds, good pillows.

Very nice pool and pool area with bar in pool.

Stayed there for 4 nights couldn't find anything bad to say about the hotel.

Thanks for hosting us and making our vacation great

Dear ariweiss2,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your recent stay at Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay.

It was great to have met you and the team are thrilled to hear that Wyndham Grand was one of the best hotels you have ever experienced throughout your world travels! Once our spa and fitness and main pool area are open in July, complete with a Middle-Eastern/Thai café, the resort we’ll have to get you back!

I agree with your sentiments, the Deck Poolside Bar is a great way to chill out in Thailand’s summer heat, especially with one of our signature cocktails, “Siam Twist anyone?”.

Our team is constantly hard at work finding ways to exceed customer's expectations and provide seamless service. We are so glad our efforts are paying off and you had the opportunity to experience our continued evolving service.

It was a treat to have such wonderful and kind guests as you and we look forward to your next visit to beautiful Phuket!

We traveled to Phuket for a family vacation, and chose this hotel, because of the amenities of the room. When we arrived, we were shocked to see the room was better than we expected, and the staff was excellent at helping us get checked in and settled. We read some of the reviews for this hotel, and honestly, I saw none of what the negative comments said. There is construction, but it is in a section of the hotel that no one is staying in, so it didn't bother us at all. The staff was more than friendly, and when a language barrier popped up, another member of the staff was there to help, so no issues. The restaurant....WOW!!. We had breakfast every morning, and dinner on most of our evenings there, in or from the restaurant, Latitude 98. The selections for breakfast were a mix of traditional Western staples, and a mix of different Thai dishes every morning. The fresh fruit, meat and cheese selections, and breads were all very fresh and tasty. I can't say enough about this restaurant, because it was amazing. On our last night there, the Chef prepared a local Thai dessert for us, and it was, as usual, amazing.

I know that my review of this Hotel, Restaurant, and staff, will never do the place justice, just as the pictures online of the hotel do not show the true beauty of this place. If you decide it is the one for you, and if you can, book one of the Luxury Villa Suites with the private pool and Panoramic Ocean View. It is worth the upgrade, and it is AMAZING!!!!

Room tip: The private pool rooms are worth it, and the Luxury Villa with Panoramic Ocean View is definitely worth it, if available

We stayed at this hotel about a week and a half ago. The hotel is beautiful with fabulous views. Finding your way around the property is a bit confusing. Signs would be helpful. We arrived at the hotel before check in time. We knew that we were early and would need to wait for our room. This was not at all a problem for us. Tula showed us to the pool area bar where we could pass the time. Mon, who works at the pool bar, could not have been more welcoming. She was sympathetic to our situation (having to wait for our room) and apologized profusely even though we were not at all upset. She served us food and drinks and was very friendly. Mon also used this time to tell us about hotel amenities, as well as off site activities that we could enjoy during our stay. Since this is a new hotel, procedures have not been clearly established. My boyfriend had a package delivered to the hotel. The package was sent back to the post office, even though it was addressed to my boyfriend and our reservation was in his name. Golf (the bell captain) was extremely helpful in this situation. He drove us to the post office to retrieve the package and offered to translate if necessary. Thank you Golf! In conclusion, operating procedures need to be established, the hotel is nice, and the staff is wonderful.
