“Perfect location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 December 2011

I don't think there is a hotel on Kamala Beach with a better location than Kamala Dreams. It's a nice size (about 20 rooms) with the front having a very good seafood restaurant in the middle of the tourist district, and the back facing right onto the south end of the beautiful beach. The owner is helpful and friendly, but occasionally some of the staff act like they are being imposed on if you ask for something. The rooms are clean and more than adequate, although you might find doors that stick or don't close easily. The air conditioning does the job and doesn't make much noise. Free WiFi is available, but only in the restaurant. There is a small swimming pool that is attractive and clean. But to really appreciate this place you should pay the extra money and get one of the two beach view rooms. It's very hard to find a hotel room anywhere with a nicer view of a beautiful and active but not noisy beach. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: If you like a room with a view, you won't be disappointed paying the extra for a beach view room...

After a long and tiring journey (and arriving in a deluge of rain, thunder and lightening), the owner of the hotel gave us a very warm welcome, helping us with our bags from the taxi and offering us a cold beer. Needless to say, this went down very well! This small hotel, main street one side, and beachfront the other is not 'resort style' if that's what you want. However, it does offer many advantages - family run, friendly and efficient, very good food (banana pancakes for breakfast to die for), brilliant beach bar just over the little bridge on to the main beach, large rooms kept very clean and air conditioned. Don't expect a large pool or sunbathing areas (as these are relatively modest) but don't worry because you have the lovely sweep of Kamala Beach just metres away. The owner could not have been more helpful, as were a very large and varied group!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear of the hotel, overlooking the pool/beach

Kamala Dreams is a small hotel which is really well located, out the front is the sea with only a short walk over the bridge to the main beach with plenty of beach chairs for hire and local massages. Out the other side past the restaurant is the street with various shops, restaurants, bars, places to organise tours and far too many tailors.

Kamala in low season is very quiet compared to Kata and Patong - but there is still plenty going on locally, particularly the friday market near Fantasea and the market in the main street.

We had a couple of rooms next to the pool and the rooms are certainly clean, of ample size and the beds comfortable. But the faciltiies are quite tired - the bathrooms could do with a spruce up, the furntiure is adequate but nothing to write home about and the pool area could handle some new furniture.

A pleasant stay.

Positives:
1.Spacious and clean rooms
2. Excellent location - Front door to shop/restaurants/pubs, back door on to the beach
3. Lovely pool + pool area
4. Friendly and extremely helpful staff
5. Late checkout (6 hours late) was no problem
6. Very competitive prices
7. Very plain restaurant but good food and decent breakfasts
Negatives:
1. no kettle - but microwave did the trick
2. shower very small with very delicate fittings that tend to fall off
3. Wireless internet only in foyer/restaurant

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms 101 - 104 are right at the pool, with easy access to beach.

We were looking forward to staying in Kamala as it is one of the places we have never stayed in phuket (6th trip). Well we would never stay there again. We arrived at the hotel by car to find there was no where to park our car, when we had been advised there was. The rooms were old but large and clean. We had 2 rooms and the toliet would not work in one of the rooms, and took a few atempts to get someone to fix it. The hotel seemed very quiet with only one other couple staying there. The location was on the beach but the beach was so full on rubbish you could not walk on it without shoes!! I know it was low season but as we had already been staying in the south of the island and knew this village was dead conpared to the rest of the island. Some of the shops and restaurants were closed.
The staff at the hotel were not very friendly at all. The manager or owner arrived one morning for about 1/2 hour and the was the only time we saw him.
We very diappointed by the whole thing.
Luckly we were only booked in for 3 days but we had our kids asking if we could leave early.
The breakfast was very basic and the coffee was awful. The person who served us did not smile once, and made us feel like we were in there way.
We have stayed in lots of different types of accomodation in Thailand and this is the most unfriendly place we have ever stayed.

Mine hosts Jan & Duan helped make our stay most enjoyable.
My wife uses a wheelchair and there are not very many places which are wheelchair-friendly. We occupied a ground floor room with direct access to the pool and, apart from a small bridge, direct access to the beach as well. There were two steps to navigate from the restaurant area to our room ( one more to access the room) and two steps from the pool area to get to the beach. As an able-bodied person, this provided me with no problem in manoeuvring my wife, in the wheelchair, throughout the premises. This hotel cannot be described as disabled accessible. However, as long as there is an able-bodied person to assist, it should present no trouble at all, and by no means marred the enjoyment of our stay which, incidentally was in excess of 7 weeks!
The room was very spacious,as was the bed (bigger than a king-size), Very clean with maid service daily and bed linen frequently changed.
The beach is about a mile or so long and much quieter than Patong.
There is no shortage of eateries and bars etc. I can highly recommend "Oh-La-La" on the main road.
On the down side, I suppose some might think Kamala Dreams is an expensive place to stay, bearing in mind that it is not a 5 star hotel. However, I think it is fairly priced, we negotiated a very good rate for our long stay, and it is in an extremely convenient location. One does not get that for free!
All-in-all it is a very pleasant and conveniently located place to stay which I would not hesitate to recommend to fellow-travellers. The hotel only has about 18 rooms, was not occupied with noisy guests during our stay, and is in a very nice village, a far cry from the hustle and bustle of Patong.

Room Tip: Ground floor if disabled.

I spent 12 days at this delightful little hotel. Big clean rooms, great location, and one of the best restaurants in the area.
The owners, Jan and Dua, are friendly and helpful. Nothing was a problem. It felt like a home away from home, even at the height of the tourist season. I need rest and relaxation, and that's exactly what I got. Highly recommended.
