Our morning and lunch stop during a private car tour to Alishan.
While the railway station (Fenqihu) gets all the attention, the town itself was pretty interesting with small food vendors (try the "mixed egg"), various stores, restaurants, small attractions, and just interesting buildings (even the dilapidated ones).
Tip: It's built on a mountain side so streets and trails have steep parts -- probably not enough to discourage the young/fit, but the rest of us were huffing and puffing in a few places.
Finding things on the tourist map can be a little difficult since it's not accurately to scale, and the signs can be small/non-existent.
The cedar forest walking trail, once found, was very beautiful and a nice change from the bustle in town.
