Our host Josephine greeted our late evening arrival with the kind offer of tea. When I called to let her know we would be arriving late, she recommended a few restaurants for dinner on our way. The room was very romantic, with a canopy over the bed and ivy peeking in the windows. Bathroom was spotless. We had coffee and tea in the room early, and then breakfast was delicious. Josephine recommended we stop at the garden across the street to take a self guided tour ("Throw a few euros in the bucket at the entrance for the local parish charity.") The garden was amazing, a huge walled garden with an amazing variety of flowers, and fruit trees, herbs and vegetables. There were ponds, bridges, drying sheds, sundials, and even an old tennis court. It was a fantastic hidden treasure, called Dunmore House. We are grateful to her for sending us there. A highlight of our trip.

Room Tip: House is in a very quiet rural area and all rooms should be nice and quiet.

We spent 5 nights a this Outstanding home. Josephine and Charlie are wonderful hosts whose knowledge of the area including what sights to visit, and where to dine with detailed directions was great. The home is lovely as described in other reviews and the food is fresh and delicious however; what makes a stay memorable are the hosts, and Josephine and Charlie are PERFECT. Stay here, you will not be disappointed..

We stayed at Mount Royd for 4 days in August 2011. The B & B is beautiful and very comfortable. The rooms were very nice with baths attached. Charles and Josephine were friendly and helpful. Josephine was an amazing hostess. She provided detailed directions each day (with handwritten maps) for the locations we wanted to visit. The breakfast was one of the highlights of the day. Everything was perfectually prepared and beautifully served as if we were in a 5-star reatrauant.

Larry and Oscar (amazing sheep) were a real treat to visit in the back yard. We will return to Mount Royd when we return to Ireland!

Josephine was an extremely friendly hostess. We were lost in the district and with patience and after several calls she guided us to Mount Royd. We were greeted with a generous home made afternoon tea fit for royalty and shown to our room, quite a beautifully appointed and decorated room (a fraction too scented for mere male) with a lovely view to the stunning garden and water feature. It was extremely relaxing. The breakfast next morning was outstanding with freshly cut fruit, varieties of pastry and plenty of choice for a cooked breakfast including fresh salmon and farm laid eggs. I had an omelette with mushrooms and I'd go back tomorrow for another.

Josephine is very friendly, she takes time to explain where to go, where to eat ; she can book a restaurant for you. It was a lovely stay (2 nights). The breakfast is entierely home-made (bread, jam, scones ...). I't's delicious. The house is very clean. We recommend it.

Cannot recommend this beautiful B & B highly enough. Stunning surroundings, beautiful rooms, delicous breakfast with home-baking and the warmest of Irish welcomes. Josephine could not have done more for us. We even got toast and freshly brewed coffee in the afternoon. We were thoroughly spoiled and looked after from beggining to end - from helpful directions to recommendations for restaurants and sight seeing. Couldn't have asked for more. Made our trip to Ireland just perfect. Will definitely be back again & again.

Room Tip: Our double room was beautifully decorated with en-suite, TV, all mod cons and stunning view of front...

From the beginning on the lady of the house was really unfriendly towards us. We apparently arrived too early (4pm) since nobody was home. After half an hour a car arrived. One lady got out of the car and went straight in the house. I went over there to talk to the second lady, who appeared to be Josephine, the lady of the house. She disliked us from the moment we met, without any reason or explanation.
We got tea and biscuits when we arrived and she asked us what we would have for breakfast but she never looked us in the eye when she talked to us and she made us feel really uncomfortable and not at all welcome.
We only stayed one night, and even that felt way too long. I just wanted to leave there as soon as possible.
There were some other guests and they were treated a lot better. For example at breakfast she asked the other guests all kinds of questions and she ignored us completely.
We really felt bad. It was our worst experience in Ireland! We had high expectations because her slogan is 'Arrive as a stranger, leave as a friend', but in our case that wasn't true at all! We don't understand how such a lady gets the award of best lady of the house!
