Located off the beaten track, this place oozes charm. Large vine-covered terrace and beautifully furnished, comfortable rooms. The owners welcomed us with lots of cold water, olives and a glass of wine. The exhuberant Giuseppe (to the point of being almost overwhelming) will tell averything you want to know about the area and probably a little bit more. Great food. The cuisine is quite rich and the portions may leave you gasping. All for prices Northern Europeans can only dream of.

First the ambiance: This is pure pastoral Italian countryside. You live in a rustic country house, and your hosts Giuseppe/Pino and Anna are fantastic people who will make you feel totally at home. They pamper you and take care of your every need. Anna not only cooks for you (the food is to die for!),she will bake for you, starting with bread and pastries for breakfast.

The rooms are furnished and appointed with antiques, all (there are only three, book early!) and all have balconies looking out over a valley and the hills on the other side.

Selci is situated in what is called "The Holy Valley", there is a number of beautiful and see-worthy monasteries, convents and churches in the area, which is also dotted with beautiful little villages, and there are also numerous natural sights to see.

Spend some time here, you will leave refreshed and recharged (and maybe a few pounds heavier).

Room Tip: "Orazio" and "Selci" are small suites. All rooms have balconies with beautiful views and full facilities.

You will have a handful of fabulous stays on a 1500 km pilgrimage, moments of pure joy, of magnified serenity.
Anna and Giuseppe, the owners of La Vecchia Quercia, offered us this during our stay.

You arrive at their place and you're first offered to relax with a glass of wine, water or beer and homemade olives.
You will have to take your time and enjoy the place and the atmosphere.

And then, Giuseppe will bring you past the wood pizza oven to your rooms. They are as exuberant as the man. They are also comfortable and well equipped.

After settling down you will god for dinner. And you will taste Anna's delicious food. But beware of the quantity. It is gargantuan.

Go also in the garden, the park. Beautiful with all plants Anna would need for her cooking.

If you're lucky, Giuseppe will show you the view from their private terrace: a terrific view on the Sabine Hills and the Apenine.

The next morning we had baked pastries from Anna's oven. Warm, tasty, delicious.

Anna, Giuseppe, Mille Grazie for offering us a stay better than a dream

hard to know where to begin. Three comfortable B&B rooms with views and wi-fi, and an absolutely fabulous restaurant, totally.local, cooking all fresh and simple by Anna, 1/2 of the owner couple. Do not miss the extraordinary antipasto, which is a memorable meal in itself. Excellent pizza, but out of the world homemade pasta. Pino, the other half, serves as the ever-accommodating host. We never miss going there on our frequent trips to Italy. And our son's dinner before wedding for 70 people was there three years ago and their friends are still talking about it.

We visited two years ago and it was the most amazing dining experience of our stay in Italy, which is saying a lot. The food was beautifully and simply prepared and presented. Everything was delicious, particularly the pasta and boar. The four of us were ravenous on entering and completely satiated on leaving. And we felt like guests rather than clients. Lovely and I can't imagine another visit to Italy without a detour to Selci.
