“A Home Away From Home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 February 2012

I have stayed at Villa Vallerosa many times over the years. My most recent visit was in November. Staying at Villa Vallerosa is a very personal experience and so I am comfortable recommending it to family and friends, many of whom have also become returning guests. Having one's own self-catered apartment is like having a home away from home. The proprietors, Luciana and Luigi, always extend a warm welcome and provide excellent suggestions for new things to see and places to visit. Villa Vallerosa is in a great location - Rome is easily accessible by the local train or if you want to take your car instead, Luciana will give you exact directions to the Villa Borghese Parking area which is nearby the Spanish Steps. On the days when you decide to stay "home", it is so relaxing to stay by the pool (if the weather is hot) or to just sit outside enjoying the view of the hill towns of Sabina in the distance and the calming sounds of the farmers' tractors in the fields below.

If you want to have the real Italian experience, I recommend this estate. Only 50 km from Roma and in the midst of the beautiful always green hills of the Sabina.
Luciana knows how to welcome people. Especially when it is your first stay in the Sabina, she will show you all the still charming and pleasant places around. It is as if you come home to a big family. The pool is the place to be in the summer afternoon and in the evening there is always a fest in the pitoresque little villages. Taste the salsice and you wil never leave!
I am sure Villa Vallerosa will give you a unforgettable Italian experience. Enjoy it!

We've stayed with Luigi and Luciana several times in recent years and I can't speak highly enough of their little oasis and Selci. The region is somewhat of a hidden gem in comparison to Umbria or Tuscany and so much less touristy and more authentic... and much better value. Vallerosa is a beautiful old manor house with a gorgeous pool nestled in the Selci hills with a stunning view over the valley. Luciana makes you feel like a long lost family member - it's amazing. You instantly relax and realise that there are simple pleasures in just hanging out in a beautiful location. The apartments have simple kitchens and allow you to prepare your own food, which is great if you have kids (as we do). Last year Luigi was cooking for a wedding feast in the old wood fired oven in the garden and he let my 5-year-old son collect the wood (well some of the wood) for him. He was thrilled to be creating such an inferno, and we also had our own private barbecue using the equipment that is available for all the guests. Special mention also to Rossana who has helped us many times, especially when we stayed for two months in the region.

Vallerosa is not about 5 star luxury, it's about authentic beautiful country living and that taste of real Italy that we certainly crave. Don't hesitate to go!!

We recently stayed over a week at the incredible Villa Vallerosa for our honeymoon. I had been there one time before and had been dying to come back. I knew the Villa was the perfect place to have a fun relaxing time with my new wife, and it did not disappoint! Luciana and Luigi the owners are some of the sweetest and funniest people I have met and the fact that they speak fluent English is fantastic. Their knowledge of the surrounding areas and recommendations are top notch and invaluable.

We stayed in the "Ascot" room on the third floor and were treated with the best view of the villa. The living rooms open to the spacious terrace which has a breathtaking panoramic view of the quaint Italian landscape. The rooms were comfortable and full of rich history. Our bathroom even had a century old fresco painted on the vaulted ceiling!

Relaxing at the pool which overlooked the countryside was the perfect way to relax and wind down after a day of exploring all the beautiful small towns which surround the villa.

We are already planning a future trip to return to the villa!

We recently stayed at the Villa Vallerosa for the third time and we will certainly return! It is a piece of heaven, residing in the beautiful Sabina Valley less than an hour north of Rome. If you love exploring medieval hill-towns and abbeys without fighting the tourist crowds of Tuscany, you can use the Villa Vallerosa as a home base. Venture out in any direction, you are minutes from spectacularly charming, historic towns like Selci, Cantalupo, and Casperia. Within an hour's drive there are countless ancient hill-towns, often with no other tourists in sight. Proprietor Luciana Pancera has a knack for learning your interests and making spot perfect suggestions for activities like festivals, markets, fresco-filled abbeys, hidden restaurants worth writing home about, shopping, and ruins to explore that aren't on the tourist maps. But if you just want to relax, Luciana's old world charm and love of life (and excellent English) make the eighteenth century Villa itself a place to experience Italy and the Italians in their essential beauty. Italy's agriturisimo program has made it possible for visitors to stay at real working farms like the Villa. It is nestled among olive groves, grape vineyards, fig trees and gardens. And a swimming pool! Additionally, Luciana's husband Luigi has a passion for his thoroughbred horses that once ran in Siena's famous Palio race. We are counting the days until our return!!!

If you search for a peaceful environment, beautiful surroundings, not to much tourists, great food and original Italian people, travel to the Sabina Region.
Luciana, with her great humour, good ideas and never ending energy, Luigi,( "il commandante on the plane but not at home), and the dogs (Mimi, Coco and Nera) give you always a heartwarming welcome.
The Villa is gorgeous. Luciana and Luigi kept the old elements and you feel this place has a great history. We stayed already three times in Penelope and it feels like it's my own little home to where I can return when I need a break.
You find everything you need in the neighbourhood. You have to go to eat to "L'angeletto" and to "La Vecchia Quercia". If you want to go further, Luciana gives you all the tips you need.
I also have to mention the swimmingpool. The old trees give you shadow and when you listen, they tell you a story. If you're there, you know what I mean:-)
For me it's my little harbour of hapiness and peace.

Villa Vallerosa is Italy at its best for the experienced traveler or the beginner. This is the answer for those who do not want to be programmed by a packaged tour but may feel shy about being on their own. Luigi and Luciana are gracious hosts. Both speak excellent English. Villa Vallerosa is a working farm with lovely guest apartments. It is in Sabina which has a proud history and traditional values. I like Vallerosa in the fall because that is when the grapes are harvested for the wine and the olives are picked for the olive oil, arguably the best olive oil in Italy. There are many local restaurants near by each with its own specialty. This region is known for its pork. Luciana and Luigi wiil guide you to the local points of interest and you are only an hour north of Rome. You need a car for the local sites but you can go to Rome easily on the train. Some have come to this region and never left. They all have a story to tell and love nothing more than sharing their stories over glass of the local wine. Villa Vallerosa is more than a vacation destination, it is an Italian home.
