This is a really lovely place, deep in rural Italy, quiet and relaxing have been there 5 times so far and just have to go back time and time again, the trullo is magical a bit like a cave, very comfortable, all really well furnished with super facilities
A super Trullo & studio in an away from it all spot in the countryside. In the centre of a functioning garden of olive, cherry, almond, pomegranate & fig trees and vegetable plots tended by a local man. This place is the antidote to a busy life. Myself and 3 friends spent a week idling by the pool, eating out of doors under the gazebo and visiting local spots in our hire car. We used both the house and the studio - this is very sweet but doesn't have an integral shower/toilet room, not a problem for us but you may want to bear this in mind for those who need the loo in the middle of the night. We ate mostly at the Trullo, buying our supplies at the local market in Ceglie. The pool is a good size for swimming - little ones who can't swim have a small area for paddling. Bedrooms in the Trullo are separated by curtains only, which adds to the charm but you may need ear plugs if staying with snorers (the local dogs were a bit yappy at night, so ear plugs maybe good for light sleepers). We loved our very relaxing week and thoroughly recommend a stay at Domus Aureus. Not a Costa, Macdonalds or English pub to be seen - bliss.
Excellent and quiet location with a very nice pool. We were there at the beginning of October when the weather had started to break and so the pool was used sparingly because we did not have a need to cool down. We were two couples and used both the Trullo and the Studio, eating and relaxing in the evening in the Trullo. The location is very tranquil, set a very good distance back from a country cul-de-sac. I found a 6K running route round the local lanes and rarely saw any other vehicles. We had stopped on the way to buy some things to eat on the first evening but need not have done so as, on arrival, we were greeted with a very generous and varied welcome pack. The cooking and eating facilities were comprehensive especially for making coffee. My wife is very particular about the coffee she has and so insisted on bringing a "proper" coffe pot pot only to find that between the Trullo and the Studio there were at least 4 excellent coffee makers!! We had a hire car and used the Trullo as a base to explore the area around including Ostuni Alberobello and Egnazia. Many previous visitors had been families with children who had, from the comments in the visitors’ book, thoroughly enjoyed the pool and garden swings etc. As for eating out, the local town of Ceglie Messapica is reputed to have many of the best eating places fin the area. How good the others were I cannot tell you as we found Osteria Da Guiseepe first and it was so good we didn't try anywhere else. All in all a great place for us but also a very versatile place to suit a multitude of different groupings.
