Recently stayed 4 nights at the Hyatt Kyoto. From the moment I stepped out of the taxi you feel at peace. The decor is minimilist chic - soothing colours and quiet. Rooms are compact but completely functional and the decor is sublime. The bathroom was comprised of 3 small areas which worked together. The prices in the restaurants vary widely. A cup of coffee ranges from free to $10 depending on where you have it. (the free coffee is outside the main entrance early in the morning). The service from the front desk, concierge, housekeeping was efficient and there were no problems with communication. There is a bus stop outside of the hotel which is very easy to use to see the sights of Kyoto. Sightseeing companies unfortunately do not do a pick up at this hotel as of yet, but a taxi is about $7 to the train station. Do not mis the temples and shrines which are an easy walk from the hotel. At night you can sleep with the window open and not be disturbed by traffic the benefit of not being in the centre of the city. I would not think of staying anywhere else in Kyoto.
