The Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa is located about a 10 minute walk from the Shinagawa train station, the hotel also has a bus service that picks up at the hotel and drops that the train station which makes accessing the hotel convenient.

I was very disappointed by the room that I received. I booked a "renovated" room on Expedia and paid extra for this. The room I received was NOT renovated, the furniture was old, the carpet was dirty and the walls were stained. The bathroom as old and outdated. I asked the hotel for a different room and they advised they were sold out.

After I left the hotel, I contacted Expedia regarding the misrepresentation. Expedia called the hotel, the hotel said all of their rooms are renovated. If all of the rooms are renovated, why did Expedia have an option to pay more for a renovated room? After complaining to Expedia they refunded my room.

The hotel itself is in a great location, lots of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel sits on very beautiful grounds, really nice to walk around.

This hotel is located off a side-street to the West of Daiichi-Keihin (Route 15) just North of Shinagawa Railway Station.
There are 3 large hotels in a cluster around a pretty Japanese Garden, all owned by the same Hotel Group:
• Prince Sakura Tower Hotel Tokyo (East side)
• Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa (North side)
• Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa (South Side)
It is easy to get confused with the names, as they are similar. There is also the Shinagawa Prince Hotel nearby.

The Grand Prince Hotel does have its own small barrier-controlled carpark for which an extra charge is made. The Railway Station is only 5-10 minutes’ walk away, up the hill past the Sakura Tower Hotel.

The Reception and the Rooms are very spacious. The Rooms are clean but a little dated in decor. It is possible to open the windows and air conditioning is also available, as is Free WiFi. Drinks from the Minibar are charged and will not be automatically topped up when consumed.

There is a Breakfast Room serving a good selection of food and drinks, a Lounge serving lighter meals and a formal French Restaurant which is not always open. Also a Smoking Bar in the basement which is well stocked with Single Malt Whiskies.
Meals, including breakfast, can also be taken in the other nearby Group Hotel Restaurants.

All the Staff are polite and friendly.

We stayed here for almost one week. Very nice hotel with big rooms and nice view from the rooms. The Japanese garden was a nice feature in the middle of the city. It is difficult to find a so nice place to stay in Tokyo.
Breakfast is very nice.

I spend 10 nights in this hotel and here is my review:

The region: It is located in the Shinagawa region, which is a quite, non-touristic region. The train station is 5min walking and if you take the green train line, you can go immediately to all the central regions of Tokyo( shinjuku, Harajuku, etc) in maximum 20min. There is also an amazing sushi restaurant in the neighbourhood called ”sushiryorinosi” that definitely worhts a visit!
ATTENTION!If you are coming from Narita airport there is a bus that goes directly to the hotel called Limusine Bus. Don't take a taxi, it is super expensive.

The hotel: The hotel has a beautiful but not obercrowed reception and the staff are always willing to help, most of them speak English well enough. It has an amazing Japanese garden in the back yard and a good tepanyaki restaurant. There is a swimming pool, but you have to pay to visit, and a very small, basic gym for free.

The room: It is very comfortable and big for the Japanese standards. People say that the decoration is outdated, but when you come back from a long day around Tokyo, you really don't care if the walls are painted beige, or the bathroom has old-fashioned tiles, you care for a comfortable bed and a clean bathroom, which you get. The cleaning service is excellent and they include plenty of amenities like combs, tooth brushes and women's amenities. The room also includes teabags and we thought they were for free, but they charge it almost 4euros for one teabag! But anyway in Tokyo you have to be prepared to spend a lot of money.

If you don't want a hotel in the more central ereas, I would definitely recommend this one.

I had been told Japan is expensive but the hotel surprised me.
We arrive morning and it was just after 11 when we arrived at hotel. To be told we could check in now but we had to pay part day as check in was 2 pm.
It was not cheap but we were tired so paid,
The rooms large and well equipped. Staff very helpful.
We headed to the pool, which is actually with next door hotel Grand Prince Hotel new Takanawa, when we arrived at pool we. Were a bit concerned as it’s not large and not many loungers, but when queues for towels I was shocked to be told we had to PAY to use the pool.
3000 yen each, this was an advertised feature of the hotel and I choose hotel as had pool, was far from impressed this amount of money for what was a pretty basic pool area. Would not come here again!
