We arrived at the parking area about 9:30 on a Sunday and were pleased to find a spot. It was a lovely day and we enjoyed the trail which was well marked and moderately traveled that day. We ended up combining the Bowl trail and Beehive before meandering back to our car via the sand beach and Ocean path.
It was very rewarding with fantastic views.

We were able to do this trail with out a break even with taking the more aggressive Cadillac Cliff detour, that I would highly recommend if you are ok with climbing rocks and steep terrain.

Rated moderate but two 60+ hikers had no problem conquering this less demanding trail than some of the others. Parked at the parking lot after the Gorham lot and walked back to the trail head along the Sand Beach trail which parallels the loop road. The climb from south end near Otter Point is a much easier climb that from the north at Beehive. Views from the peak are fantastic with great vistas of the Cranberries and Porcupines. Don't be fooled as we were and stop at the false summit if you come from the south. The real summit is marked by a totem in a rock cairn. Down climb to the north is a bit tricky. Take a side trip if time allows and take the second fork on the Bowl trail for a great view of one of the smaller and less visited water holes in the park.

We were expecting easy but was definitely moderate and a good workout for fit but older people (nearing 60 or so). Very nice views at the top and along the way. I mean there are some really, really challenging hikes in Acadia - and this is easy compared to those. But if you're expecting a simple walk with no climbing up some steep steps and potentially slippery rocks - then this is not for you. Of course, you can always drive up Cadillac Mountain - the views from there are MUCH better.

Guide Book described it as "Moderate Trail" so up 1 mile to 525 Feet then down one mile to Sandy beach and another 1.2 miles back along Ocean Path to parking sounded easy.
Best direction to climb is from the parking lot past Thunder Hole then down to Sandy Beach because descent is more gradual. There are some areas where using hands are necessary to climb up rock boulders. For those with knee pain, one will feel it coming down rocky trail. But as they say, it's beautiful up there!
