Owner description: Arch which requires a 4.2 mile hike through challenging terrain.

We hiked the entire Devil's Garden Loop returning via the Primitive Trail. Double O Arch was our lunch point, since we were able to find shade in the area. My least favorite arch on the Devil's Garden Loop but definitely still worth seeing and the section of the hike to get there between Landscape Arch and Double O arch was my favorite part of the hike.

First things first, Devil's Garden Trail is not the easiest. So make sure you have enough water and that you are in good shape. There is a bit of climbing, and some rock scrambling. The trail is not so defined too, so you'll have to know how to do some navigating.

Double O Arch is the point where many people turn back, it's worth the trek though, you see many amazing views on the way as well.

Double O Arch is 4.8 mi/6.4 km roundtrip from the Devils Garden trailhead (out and back) and should take about 2-3 hours. The trail is rated difficult because it involves hiking on slickrock and scrambling on rock fins with steep dropoffs. Alternatively, you can go on (or return via) the Primitive Trail, which is 0.9 mi/1.5 km longer than the main trail and is rated very difficult because it requires serious rock scrambling. There is a large parking lot at the trailhead, which gets full quickly.

We hiked the loop (first Primitive Trail, then main trail) including the side trails on a chilly Friday in April (50 deg F/10 deg C). We brought 5 L of water for 2 people and had about 1.5 L left since it was partly cloudy and not warm. You will need to bring more water if it's warmer. We started our hike around 9am and arrived at the Double O Arch around 11:30am. It was fairly crowded so we didn't linger. We found the arch not as magnificent as Landscape Arch nor as scenic as Partition Arch.

I strongly advise against taking the Primitive Trail as it requires a lot of effort for not a lot of payoff (no arches, same view as the main trail). Even the main trail was not easy. We're very fit and avid hikers but found slickrock hiking difficult, somewhat dangerous, and not very enjoyable. It's like amateur rock climbing but without the safety equipment. Since we were constantly looking down at our feet, it was impossible to fully appreciate the views.

It is not very long in terms of distance (approx 4 miles) but some of the terrain can be challenging for some. Along the way you see many other arches, including Landscape, Navajo, Partition, etc. The hike is worth for what you see along the way as opposed to Double O itself.

If you are up for some more work, return via the primitive trail. The weather for us was quite nice, but it will be harder on a hot day.

Do it to see a different landscape, but be prepared with food, water, and proper footwear.

This arch is located at the far end of the Devils Garden loop. It is a good arch to visit but beware that people tend to hang out a while beneath it so it can be difficult to get photos without someone else in them. We talked to one group that missed double O arch because it is kind of around the corner from the main trail. The primitive trail starts nearby and I would recommend taking it back as long as you are prepared for the occasional lack of markings. We had to backtrack a couple of times to re-gain our bearings, and we saw other people who were more lost than we. I would not do this trail in reverse (up the primitive trail). Dark angel is NOT located through the arch - that trail starts just down the primitive trail a little ways (and the monument does look like a dark angel to me).
