We were not really impressed with Upheaval Dome. The hike is moderate and we made it to the 2nd overlook w/o any problems but it was anti-climactic. Do only if you've done the easy hikes and have time.

Hiking to the first viewpoint will give you a wonderful look at the dome. The walk is uphill and narrow. I didn’t see a need to hike any further.

Walked the trail to the first two overlooks. A great hike!
The trail goes over rock and has many unique built in steps that make hiking quite a bit of fun.
Touring the whole trail around is probably too much for the average folk.
If you like a scenic and fun easy plus trail try this.

This feature in Canyonlands is unusual and may be the result of a meteorite crashing into the earth here. The salt dome within the crater is entirely different from the other rock layers. As others point out here, there are two viewpoints -- about 3 miles round trip if you visit both. I would say that the view at the first of these is as good as any others you're going to have, but the second part of the hike is more fun, as it includes a bit of slickrock climbing. If it's hot, I would recommend doing about half of the walk to the second viewpoint, but I'd skip the final descent and long flat walk in the sun to the end of the trail.

We did the short hike to the first outlook of Upheaval Dome. While the view is "nice", we were not that impressed, and liked Grand View Point Overlook and the hike to Mesa Arch and this outlook even better.

Wasn't blown away by this one in terms of scenery, but it was still a nice walk up an down the rocks. Wouldn't put it at the top of my list of things to do here.

It’s kinda cool that there are still unanswered questions about how Upheaval Dome was created. The salt dome rises inside and enormous crater. Meteor impact, extreme pressure forcing the dome upward? Scientists still aren’t sure. The first overlook was harder then I remembered to get to, but it has some nice views of the dome. I personally would skip the trek to the second overlook, it was long and got to get there for basically then same views. Still, though, an interesting formation and worth the hike just to see this spectacle.

We did this hike in the middle of the day so it was a little bit hot out. The hike is mainly up hill so when you come down it’s pretty easy. There are two view points for this crater.

Interesting that there are two competing theories on how the upheaval dome came about. It is visually stunning and worth the uphill hike, which offers some nice scenery along the way. Understanding the theories on how this came to be helps you appreciate the view.

Started straight up to the first overlook but stairs and plenty of people headed up there. The next part to the 2nd overlook was the fun part. Once we thought we were up on the top, it went down, way down to the end. Lots of fun and make sure to follow the cairns to stay on the path
