“Cabin for more than a dozen.”
Review of Behunin Cabin

Behunin Cabin
Reviewed June 20, 2018

This tiny cabin was lived in briefly by the Behunin family (a dozen children). The river's frequent flooding forced the settlers upstream to what is now Fruita. Fascinating construction with the local red slate-like sandstone.

Just go read the sign. It will blow your mind. I'm not sure if the whole family lived here when there were 13 of them, but if so, they must've had to sleep standing up! This place is TINY.

If you're traveling to Capitol Reef from the east/north, you'll come across Behunin on your way to the park's official visitor center. Striking representation of how hardy and rugged and determined the people who settled this land were to call it their home.

If you stop by this interesting cabin (you cannot enter) there is an informational sign you can read which is interesting. You can look in the window here.

Behunin Cabin is a historic red sandstone cabin build by a Mormon pioneer who lived in the area in 1882. There is a small pullout on the south side of Utah Route 24 for parking.

We stopped by the cabin around 1pm on a Sunday in April. It was an interesting photo stop.
