“Bring Good Shoes and Patience”
Reviewed 5 February 2012

Under normal circumstances the trail is a fairly stress-less event unless you have an abnormal fear of heights or there's been icy weather.

The trail is narrow at times and there are a few moderately steep climbs. The path can get icy in which case good shoes and sense of balance are a must. The views are wonderful and they change along with your position during the trek. Bring a camera.

There are bus shuttle stops along the way so if you want to you can catch a ride back to the village. Be advised that these shuttles do not keep to a schedule so you can be waiting a while.

“Not too demanding a walk, but need a head for heights”
Reviewed 19 January 2012

We took the bus to Hermits Rest and walked back to Hopi Point. We found ourselves immediately on a trail right on the rim itself, and in a few places it was quite hairy. We had to brush past small bushes so being shoved really close to the edge, and the footing was quite uneven - I was thinking 'this seems a bit reckless of the authorities, I'd expect a better margin of safety in such a publicly accessible location'.

When this trail eventually rejoined a tarmac cycle/pedestrian trail, I saw a sign and realised we hadn't been on the official rim trail, but an informal one made by walkers. The proper rim trails have a rock edging on the outside, and are filled quite level and even.

So, take care you're on the correct path, or else just take care (However, it was quite exhilarating, I have to admit )

“Great Canyon Views!!”

Utilize the shuttle bus and do smaller or longer segments depending upon your capabilities. Most sections are relatively flat. Be prepared this is a hike. Bring water and your camera!

“Wish we had known”
Reviewed 15 January 2012

We thought the Rim Trail was for wimps, but once we arrived, we realized what a great way it was to see the Canyon. We took short hikes down into the canyon on a couple popular trails, and are glad we did, but wish we had taken in the breadth of the canyon in one long Rim Trail hike.
