“A Interesting Homestead On The Trail”
Review of Pratt Cabin

Pratt Cabin
Reviewed October 7, 2017 via mobile

This is a nice destination for anyone seeking an easy hike through the canyon. The trail is relatively flat with about 400 feet in elevation gain in the 2.4 (4.8 miles round trip) miles from the visitors center at McKittrick. The home is built of local stone and is a great place for a lunch break if you choose to carry a meal with you. Take water as it is a dry environment and you’ll want to stay hydrated as you take in the canyon on your hike.

By "Stone Cabin", I believe they are referring to Pratt Cabin which is a 2.4 mile hike up McKittrick Canyon from the trailhead. This is a fairly easy hike with a very wide and well defined hiking trail. It is a loose gravel trail for the most part, but if you do any hiking at all, you won't have a problem. The cabin was built in the early 1930's, is very remote, but beautiful. All stone, it also has a stone roof, the like of which I've never seen before. We really enjoyed our hike to Pratt Cabin and beyond to the Grotto. Watch for wildlife and beautiful flowers along the way. Highly recommended!
