great place in such as remote location- wonderful staff and lodge in the wilderness. Lots of bears this year. Amazing place considering the difficulty of running a lodge in such a remote location. They grow their own vegetables and catch fresh salmon for dinner, but everything else has to be flown in.

We only stayed for 24 hours but it was amazing from beginning to end. The proximity to the bears takes a little getting used to but once you relax and see that you're in good hands with your guide, its incredible to see the bears and their babies in their natural environment. We saw bears from inside the lodge when we came in for meals as well as watching them outside. All food was homemade and fantastic! The lodge is very clean, intimate and cozy so that you feel like you're staying in someone's home. I can't recommend this experience enough. James and Sheila were wonderful hosts. It's worth every penny and we can't wait to return.

We went with a photography trip. From the moment you arrive you are treated to an experience you will never forget. The meals are prepared by a top notch chef (Tom) and are just fantastic. Our guide Bell was awesome. The photo experience was beyond anything I could have imagined.
Our room was the Eagles Nest, private bath and balcony. Beautiful room to stay with great views. Got our first pictures of bears from our balcony.
The lodge does have wifi, just understand this location is very remote and they have limits. You can check you email and send texts but don't expect anything more. But I didn't come here for the Internet.
I gave the value five stars, yes it's expensive but this is a once in a lifetime experience. So I believe the prices are fair for what you receive in return.
James and Shiela run a beautiful lodge and the staff just can't do enough for you.

Fantastic trip!!! My wife and I brought along our 14 and 12 year old daughters, and we all thought it was the highlight of our trip. Our guide , Belle, was extremely knowledgeable about the bears and very accommodating to our kids. We had a 5th member of our group, and Belle made sure all members of our tour were experiencing the trip to expectations. And our expectations were blown away. We figured we saw 20-24 different brown bears. We saw newborns with their mothers. We saw 2 1/2 year old with their mother. We saw adolescents who had just been sent on their own, and we saw a couple males. The trip was the perfect amount of time with the kids. If it was just my wife and I we would totally stay at the lodge. James and Sheila the owners were present the whole time. They both were fantastic hosts, and made us feel welcome at their place. The place was spotless and comfy. Lunch hit the spot, and there were tons of leftovers, so don't worry about food.

Finally, the flight over was a blast. Tim, our pilot was a true professional. He has an app where even if he would lose his engine we could coast to a landing area. Felt completely comfortable about the flight.

Please, do yourself a favor and book this trip. Also, there was another tour group at the location, but their group had twice the amount of guests. Alaska Homestead Lodge limits the amount of guests to keep the needs of the guests paramount.

Great trip.

I spent 5 days at the lodge and enjoyed the accommodations , the hospitality, the food and the BEARS! Our Guide (Hunter) was so knowledgeable and helpful in locating the bears and making sure we got the best locations for our pictures. Thanks James and Sheila for operating such a lovely lodge in beautiful Lake Clark National Park.
