Just back to UK after US holiday where this location was next on the list after a Seattle city-centre corporate hotel stay. Something of a contrast!!

Our tent-cabin was a wooden "shed" with mesh on the window openings (no glass) and a tarpaulin roof. No electricity, just a parafin lamp; all other facilities in the ranchhouse. This sounds quite spartan but don't be put off - its fine.

Food (we had a full-board tariff) is served in the ranch-house on long polished log tables and sawdust floor in front of log fire. Lots of choice and all very good. Help yourself to coffee from the big "always boiling" enamel jug on the fire. All overseen by the owner's family who make a point of keeping in touch

There is a shuttle bus along the valley from the boat jetty included in the tariff - this opens up the walking even for the most reluctant hiker and the commentary is fascinating, with the option to hop off at the patisserie.

And the location is of couse the real reason for going - remote, no access roads, just the 50-mile ferry ride along Lake Chelan, lots of hiking trails and adventure opportunities. We missed seeing the bear at Coon Lake, but probably just as well!

[--] has all the correct info.

We (my husband, and two kids, aged 8 and 9) spent three nights at this unique and special place recently. It was wonderful. Stehekin itself is like stepping back in time - the lack of road access has kept the area pristine. The scenery is dramatic and beautiful. I cannot say enough good things about the ranch, owned and run for more than three generations by the Courney family. It is not luxurious, but rather simple and rustic. We had a cabin with a loft area for the kids to sleep in and a bathroom/shower. It was spacious and comfortable (the tent cabins are smaller and more rustic). When not white water rafting or trail riding through the spectacular mountains, we rested in Muskoka chairs looking at the beautiful view in every direction. The food is simple but well prepared and delicious. The Courtneys and their staff are warm and friendly and make you feel like part of the family. If you like hiking, I cannot imagine anywhere better.
We will definitely go back.

My family has stayed at SVR every summer since I was three years old (I'm now seventeen). Amazing place to get away for a few days or a week or two - fabulous food, breathtaking scenery, warm comfy accomodations, great people, and lots of options for the whole family as far as recreations is concerned. Definitely highly recommended!!!
