Owner description: Visitors can take a self-guided tour of this authentic fort active during the Civil War and later used as a jail to hold the infamous American Indian chief Geronimo.

The fort is at the mouth of Pensacola Bay and the views are stunning. The men loved climbing around the gun batteries, we enjoyed the views and close proximity to Blue herons.

We got a tip that Fort Pickens was a great place to watch the Blue Angels practice. So not only did we enjoy visiting this 200 year old fort but we also had a great vantage point to watch the practice. Amazing.

Large fort still being restored in places. Tour guide only available one time a day, and when we went, the tour time was incorrect from the brochure from the Pensacola Beach tourist center, so we missed the tour. You can only access this fort by way of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, which means it is a $20 pass, and with a 25 mile an hour speed limit for several miles. The self guided tour paper was mostly adequate, but a tour guide would have brought this place to life.

This is a nice place we have three young children it’s not something that you will be at for a long time. We were there for about an hour, $20 to get in the park. We found the most seashells in this area though because there were not very many people on the beaches. Kids liked it for all the tunnels that you can go back in at the fort overall I would say it is something that is worth going to for 2 to 3 hours in the park including walking on the beach
