“Pleasant location, friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 February 2012

I stayed at the Marine Hotel in November 2011. I was impressed by the friendly and welcoming staff - from my initial phone call to book, being greeted on arrival, and throughout my stay.
The view of the bay was great. It is easy to walk to the beach. Access to train travel to Dublin city centre is a short walk to the station. Food is good. The atmosphere is easy and relaxed. I look forward to staying there in the future

Greetings from Sutton!

Thank you for your review which as always we very much appreciate. It is a pleasure to offer you a wonderful stay.

The Marine Hotel is so well located, just a hop on the Dart to the city centre while having the bay outside the door, it is ideal for a city break.

We look forward to your return visit.

Regards,

John Walsh

Stayed at the Marine in June 2011 for several nights to start and finish our Irish vacation. The staff were fabulous, especially at the front desk. The rooms were very clean and the amenities excellent. Easy access to the city and to Howth.

We have stayed at the Marine on numerous occassions over the last 23yrs and thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting Dublin. On our last visit we made a big mistake & stayed at the Deerpark Hotel in Howth, there is no comparison between the two hotels and no way should they have the same 3* rating. The staff at the Marine are professional and friendly & the food and location are very good.

Stayed three nights in the Marine Hotel for New Year. The Hotel Bar Food Very Good and Restaurant is lovely. But do not stay in room 112 very dark and worn out furniture badly needs updating. Will not stay there again.

Room Tip: Do not stay in one of the old rooms.

There is usually ample parking space at the front of the hotel but on this occasion I parked in the overflow car park No.2 at the rear of the premises which was fine.

Our check-in could not have been better. A warm welcome and smile from the receptionist on duty put us at our ease. The same gentlemen offered polite conversation, help with our bags, and offered to make reservations at local restaurants, charming. The real fire sparkling in the fireplace and the beautiful Christmas tree provide an excellent entrance to the hotel foyer.

Our room (140) had views over Dublin Bay and it was a delight watching the sunrise over Howth Head to the left as the ships and ferries arrived at Dublin port in the morning. The room itself is decorated and equipped to a good standard. i.e. tea/coffee/kettle hairdryer etc but no fridge. Probably the decor could be brought up to date like the decor of the lobby and bar areas.

This was our third time staying at The Marine as we find although it is 20 – 30 minutes travel to Dublin city centre by Dart or car, its close enough yet far away enough from the action.
The Marine is probably more suited to the business traveller or for those exploring Malahide, Portmarnock and Howth. I’m sure it is ideal for weddings as the back lawn rolls all the way down to the sea where the views are breathtaking. Sutton Cross is a busy junction for traffic; it’s a small village really. We enjoyed dining at a very good quality Chinese restaurant “The Golden Elephant”, there is a small selection of shops nearby plus a large supermarket.

Back at the hotel the bar was comfortable and pretty good service supplied by the friendly barmen.
Breakfast was included in our rate which we enjoyed; especially the waitress deserves a mention for her professional manner.

Check-out was also seamless. All in all a clean comfortable hotel and well worth the money!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

The marine hotel has a great location with the rear of the hotel looking out over bull island and the irish sea. It is Located about 9 miles or so from the city centre and that can be reached by bus, the bus stop is outside the hotel or the dart(Train) whcih is about a ten minute walk.

Great place if you want to see a bit more of dublin as it is beside Howth and malahide, where there are plenty of restaurants and parks etc.

The rooms are nice and big and the beds are comfortable. If you can ask them to put you in the new wing which houses a few more modern rooms. But all in all great value for money

My wife and I tend to use The Marine whenever we visit Dublin and so far we have not been disappointed. The bedroom overlooking Dublin Bay on the 1st floor is large and comfortable and has all the modern facilities needed (except no safe!). The free WiFi was very handy although it broke down for one day. Even adding in the cost of the train to Dublin it is lower cost than staying in Dublin city and you have the delights of Howth coastline on your doorstep.
We will use it on our next trip - provided the the good rate deal is available. Book early!

Room Tip: First floor overlooking the bay
