“Unique and charming place to stay.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2011

This is a really unusual B&B. It is right down near the Quay in Rawene and is an old postmasters house. It was a cool and quiet oasis on a hot, dusty day.
The house is full of antiques and interesting things. My son spent the first hour looking for secret passages! Although he failed to find any, it did have that sort of feel!
Our bedroom had a 4 poster queen bed and another single with muslin curtains to draw across the alcove.
Wooden floors, high ceilings and clean white bedlinen.
There is a TV room with sky TV and good free wireless Internet access.
John the proprietor is friendly and welcoming, unfortunately his partner was away so no evening meals were available.
We went over to the fish and chip shop opposite and took our fresh Hokianga flounders and chips back to the terrace at the postmasters and shared them with the cat while admiring the beautiful view of the harbour.
If you like a minimalist and impersonal hotel room then this is definitely not for you.
We really enjoyed our stay and hope to go back.

This is a lovely old Villa, crammed with old antiques etc that make it quaint, deck overlooking harbour is very pleasant to eat at. Nothing is a problem to the host John, will do anything to make you happy. Right by the ferry

A very special hotel.A really nice boutique hotel with lots of nice details.Great place to visit this area although Rawene itself has not much to offer.
John came from Holland so it was special to talk some Dutch with him.And sitting outside and drinking a glass of wine while overlooking Hokianga Harbour is very nice.

Crammed full of ugly furniture. Single bed too short for a 5'6" woman. Dried plants & innumerable candles burning - almost a fire hazard. Hand basin and toilet were grubby. Proprietor's choice of music constantly in background. No parking on site.

John and Dorothy share ownership of a restored house in an historic district. The house is beautifully decorated, everything works (John is an engineer), and Dorothy produces delicious meals, served on a veranda overlooking Hokianga Harbour. We learned much about the area and new Zealand over dinner. Postmasters' Lodgings offers a warm welcome and a pleasant stay.
