“Not so good !”

We stayed at navy blue in March with family.
Firstly the property has lovely views, it is well furnished and clean enough.
The property relies on electric plug in heaters which where the not on when we arrived and the place felt very cold and damp.
Very annoyingly,We had no hot water either for the majority of our stay due to recurring problems with the water heater, and sadly lost so much time during our short stay dealing with a plumber, We found the owner difficult to contact on Friday evening to report the problem, but she did send the plumber round on Saturday morning, sadly he couldn't fix the problem until 6:30pm
There is a huge damp area on the wall in the master bedroom.
The stairs are very steep and the very narrow area at the end of the breakfast bar and stairs leading down to lower floor could do with a stair gate to protect anyone from falling down.

The outside of the property is very untidy, and the garden is overgrown, slippery and a mess, the garden furniture rotted and dirty from being left out uncovered all winter, this could do with some attention.

“Not for me !!”

Arrived to find the cottage very cold and smelling of damp. Sadly there was no hot water from Friday evening until Saturday but this has been mentioned in a previous post. Good view and was clean enough however having no hot water ruined the weekend. The outside of the property is very poor with old ladders etc left around. The garden is a no no as the shrubs are fairly wild, the decking old and as for the garden furniture, its filthy and rotting !! The Bar B que is a rusty piece of metal all blown over in the corner. As for the inside and yes its true there are several sockets that are either taped over saying do not use or do not fit properly. As for the heating control, at the time, its was sparking!!. Best to avoid this property if you want a trouble free holiday....one thing I have noticed is that there has been electrical issues going back to the end of last year, if the reviews are anything to go by...... Oh and there was a huge damp patch in the main bedroom !!

“Lower floor damp, outside spaces need attention, electrics interesting.”

The views from the property are fantastic and the parking is not as bad as some of the previous reviews make out. The property is over 3 floors with access from the street to the middle floor. Bedrooms and bathrooms are on the bottom and top floors which was not clear to me from the property description. No handrail to get down the steps and into the property - not suitable for anybody who's not steady on their feet/has poor vision. (My elderly but active parents both tripped.) Stairs inside quite steep. Narrow space between end of Breakfast bar and the stairs to the bottom floor - you have to go through that gap to get to the lounge so not suitable for families with children dashing about or people with poor site/not steady on feet. The bottom floor smelt and was damp. There's a leak in the flat roof and a corner of the ground floor bedroom has a wet carpet with a towel in the corner on the floor. The electrics appeared interesting with some sockets not working, one or two taped over and the bathroom ones did not appear to be a standard size so it was difficult to get some adaptors to stay in the sockets. The lower courtyard at the front was nothing but weeds with a ladder down from the street to a not very secure door into the property at that level. The garden at the back did not appear to have been touched for months and the garden furniture was made of wood and had rotted from being left out in all weathers.

As it has been 7 months since your visit, I can confirm that a handrail has been put in place, the garden has been trimmed and the rain water leak in the bottom bedroom has been successfully fixed and the room redecorated.
I am not aware of any sockets which do not work.or any which have been taped over. There are however 2 lamps in the bedroom which are activated by touching the base and you may not have realised this. The socket I believe you think is taped over is actually a switch for a water pump which is no longer connected. I have put a polite note over this to request no one switches it on. If this is switched on, it will try to pump water to radiators which are not in place. This switch will be removed in the near future.
I'm sorry to hear that your parents tripped on the stairs.
You are correct though, the property is not suitable for the visually impaired because it is built over 3 floors and hence there are a number of staircases required to access those floors in addition to stairs leading to the front door. I will change the description in the property details on the web site to ensure this is clearer for future guests. Many Thanks

“Comedy of "not so" funny errors!!”

We rented this cottage for a weekend after reading the reviews on trip adviser and as we arrived it all looked good, I must say firstly, the cottage has fabulous views, nice furnishing, good attention to detail and was clean enough, sadly visitors book with places of interest/ places to eat hadn't been updated since 2013.
We got there at 5:30 to be met by a very cold, damp feeling dark cottage, no heating on, radiators cold on the walls and a few electric heaters about, which we plugged in and got the place a little warmer.
Realised there was no hot water, and cold radiators, we decided to call owner at 6pm....no reply...again at 7:30..no reply...9:30...no reply..11:05pm owner calls and says a plug must have tripped the water heater, she sounded surprised and told us a plumber would call round in the morning, oh and the radiators aren't connected to anything, so just use eclectic plug in heaters.
Saturday morning I texted owner to ask were we to stay in and wait for plumber, she told us to leave out spare key...only we couldn't because it was so bent, it wouldn't go into the lock...spent the morning with the so called plumber, who assured us it was all fixed after 2 hours and he'd had to come out several times to fix it over the last month..AS THE OWNER KNEW THERE WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM...WOULDN'T IT HAVE BEEN A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE IT CHECKED BEFORE RENTING IT OUT FOR A WKD!!. We tried water before heading out to salvage the day...no hot water!!!
We Went out, came back at 4pm..no hot water...called owner who was not overly helpful until it was pointed out that we were now 24 hrs into a 36hr stay.
She agreed to pay half our money back and got the plumber out again...I say plumber..his main job is selling on eBay.
He spent another 2.5 hrs fixing the problem,at one point sparks were coming out of the wall in the bedroom were he was trying to fit a new plug. Came down stairs and asked which one of us was making him a cup of tea...and then asked for another before leaving.. FINALLY AT 6:30pm hot water!!! Hallelujah!!! We all showered quickly before it went off again..thankfully it lasted.
The plumber told us the owner was well aware of the problems and he was replacing parts after we left on Sunday morning.
We did get half our money back, but it was not a relaxing weekend away.
The plumber has since accidentally called us thinking we were the owner with yet more problems.
I'd suggest checking with owner that you'll have hot water before booking this property.

This is a very unfair review. As soon as I was aware of the problem, I arranged for a plumber to visit. He was at the cottage by 10 am on Saturday morning. The cottage does not have a boiler but has a water heater and electric radiators. The water heater was new in October 2015.
I was very apologetic and offered the guests a 50% refund. I also sought an alternative property for the guests next door.
The guests were only interested in getting money back and not at all bothered by the fact they had no hot water.

“Fantastic cottage with gorgeous views”

We stayed here for 3 nights in Feb. We had a fantastic stay. The cottage was really clean, lovely decor and amazing view of the river. We all enjoyed sitting in the window and watching the boats come and go especially in the evening. The cottage had all the home comforts you could want and there was lots to do in the surrounding area, the boys (aged 6 and 8) especially loved the car ferry to go across the river and woodlands theme park. We would definitely recommend.

“Nice place, views good from a certain angle in the front rooms”
Reviewed August 23, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

A nice little cottage, clean enough and reasonably equipped. Good location even if parking needs a good driver to get into position. It was clean and well presented, would have preferred better quality duvet and pillow covers than the pattern pillow cases etc but still fine. We had a few minor issues with fuse and water heating but all quickly solved by the landlord on email.
