Sultanofsmacks you suck

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 10, 2011
We were on a three week trip through Canada from germany in 2004 when we stayed at the resort first time.
It is such a great place for people to enjoy the nature that we came back in 2005.
Now we have two little boys and can`t afford to visit Canada again.
But we always remember the time in Kinbasket. And one day we come back.
We stood in several hotels and motels with pool and spa in Vancouver, Kamloops,
Calgary or Lake Luise. Maybe Sultanofsmacks ask me for a listing. You better stay there.
Think about what you are searching for before you decide to stay at a place.
Stan, we loved it.

Stayed with family here recently and loved it! Great vienws, helpful staff, very clean washrooms, nice hot showers, wheel barrow of good wood for $8. Train came by once every two hours or so but wasn't overly annoying at all. The lake was very high this time of year so swimming was fine, driftwood here and there, you just have to navigate around it sometimes. Read the negative reviews and totally disagree. Rick and his staff take good care of the place and do keep it peaceful for everyone. Judith and Darrell

Firstly I've got to say that this site is 5km off the main road down a winding sandy road! Something to bear in mind for rental RVs who mightnote take kindly to using their vehicles for off paved highways! Ours was covered in dirt mainly due to the rain making the drive muddy.

That aside the view is WELL worth the drive, even in the rain! Staff were great, nice and friendly! Yes there is a train, yes it is noisey, but following an 11 night, 10 site tour of BC & AB train lines, roads and campsites tend to end up in the same places. People would sure complain if they were hit by a train that didn't sound it's horn. toilets and showers were clean but lacked some privacy. Other slight niggles could be excused due yo the remote location - such as no sanidump for single night stay and wifi charges, seriously seclusion comes with certain costs! Most of the RV sites didn't have the best privacy with perhaps less than ideal separation between them but enough to sit with a fire and not feel overlooked!

We booked 3 nights here based on the website. It is in a beautiful area of the province with magnificant views. We had a 1 bedroom cabin. Very dated. No hot water. Nice little deck though overlooking the lake. We weren't expecting the trains though and really were not expecting that they would run most of the night, usually 2/hour and blow the whistle several times each time through. That at least kept us awake enough to hear the mouse getting into our food! We packed the food in totes for the next night and used some ear plugs and it was ok. We actually giggled about it for the rest of the trip. It will forever be the train resort. The lake was quite murky and was full of debris but apparently is not always so. We paddled our canoe around and up the river. The best part was the kiwi couple who were running the place while we were there. Most accommodating and very friendly. All in all not bad, but I prefer somewhere a bit more peaceful.

We just spent several nights at Kinbasket lake resort in one of their cabins. What a great time we had! The staff were really friendly and helpful (especially the Kiwi couple). Our cabin was just what we were looking for- on the water with a beautiful view and having all the necessary comforts (electricity, toilet, comfy bed, fridge etc). Had the opportunity to fish and got to view some of the local wildlife- 2 otters kept us company on the lake! I would recommend this place to everyone who is looking for a nice camping retreat in the area.

My family and I recently stayed at the Kinbasket Lake resort and found it dissappointing. Loud trains run right next to the camp ground all day and all night...at least one per hour. Each train honks it whistle 4 times each time they cross the road which is just above the campsite...the track was literally about 150 feet from our RV spot (We made a game with our kids...who could hear the train comin around the mountain first.) Both my wife and I took sleeping pills to try and get enough shut eye...they just dulled the blaring horn. Oh ya did I mention the BLARING train horn?

No nice hiking trails, the lake was full of debris couldn't run a boat more than 10km for fear of hitting a floating log...Other times I heard it was supposed to be nice and clear though. I did find the campground had alot of little rules...like the all seeing eye was constantly on you. Wood was $8 per bundle...I would recommend giving 4-5 more pieces for the price. 10$ per day extra to park your boat on the dock...One would think they would encourage people to put their boat in the water. I felt like there was a little nickle and diming going on.

Campsite itself was small with only 15amp service...can't run a bigger AC. Picnick table was old and rickety. Nice view though. Fishing is so so. If you like fly fishing, this is NOT the lake for you. Kids can fish off the dock and have moderate success. No real nice swimming beach, unless you want to swim by the boat launch with all the dogs.

Bathrooms were clean and showers were included in price. If you stay only one night with your RV get ready to pay extra for your sani dump. Sani dump is not drive through...had to drive my truck up a bank with my trailer and then back out after I was done (wasn't allowed to park on the road for 5 minutes.)

All in all we made the best of it but we won't go back and would not recommend it...mostly because of the train. It's to bad, the website makes it look 10 times better than it is.
