“A lovely, cosy cottage to relax in and enjoy the countryside.”
Reviewed December 1, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

My husband and I stayed for a long weekend in The Old Bike Shed with our 5 month old puppy. The cottage was very cosy, clean and welcoming and we had one of Nicki's lovely Apple cakes freshly baked waiting for us (I would highly recommend the cake!) . Having arrived a bit unprepared in the dark it was a bit of a venture out to find a local shop for some essentials but the next day in daylight we got our bearings. Nicki and Jason were great hosts and so helpful, nothing was too much hassle. We took advantage of the mountain bike hire and having left bike racks at home Jason was great in offering to drop us at the forest and wait for us and take us back again! Nicki's home cooked food was delicious and great after biking. The puppy loved the walks through the local forestry and beach and we all enjoyed crashing out in front of the fire each evening. I would definitely recommend Brechfa Forest Barns to friends wanting a dog friendly holiday and we hope to return in the future.

“Perfect retreat for Dogs, Walkers, Mountain bikers and those just wanting a rest”
Reviewed November 27, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

We stayed in the old bike shed for a week after our wedding as a ‘mini-moon’, a break to relax after all the craziness of weddings, and relax we did. We unfortunately took bad weather with us, however it didn't dampen our spirits, just made it even more cosy!

We booked in for cooked dinner with Nikki on the 1st night which was just perfect and allowed us to be able to unpack, get settled, and not have to think about making or going out for dinner. our meal was Perfect and I wish we had booked for a couple more nights, so nice to be looked after and not have to think, especially if you book in advance, it's almost a surprise!

The Old bike shed is tiny but perfectly well laid out and so so cosy, it provided plenty of space for the two of us and our new dog. We chose to sleep on the mezzanine, and its just fab, it was cosy and warm with plenty of space for storage and plugs for charging phones etc.
Being dog friendly you are never sure how clean or tidy a holiday rental will be but there are no worries at all with Brechfa Forest barns, the place is spotless, its perfectly set up for dogs, with wipe clean surfaces allowing you to relax and not be constantly worried that they have walked a soggy footprint in.

Initially I was worried about the height of the fences and the surrounding sheep, however the layout of the bike shed garden, means the garden is within Nikki & Jay’s garden which is surrounded by high wire fences so that put my mind at rest and also allows you to appreciate the beautiful views. We stayed during peak firework period but didn't hear a single bang, the views allow you to watch the silent fireworks in the distance, great for a nervous hound.

We spent our 4 days there walking in the nearby forest, mountain biking from Bygwm (a must do) http://www.mbwales.com/en/content/cms/bases/brechfa/brechfa.aspx, visiting the local pubs, the Forest Arms and Black Lion, both owned by the same people, however the Forest was our favourite with excellent food, décor and the ability to make you never want to leave… We also visited New Quay beach which is a must, ensure you check tide times if you are going there specifically for a dog walk/ walk on the beach. Here we can recommend the Lime Crab for Fish & chips.

All in all a fabulous break, Nikki & Jay are hugely accommodating, we hired a bike for the day from Jay which is was great and no pressure. We are very grateful that they have shared their dream with so many, we will be back, and will always recommend to friends, those with dogs and without

Dear Pete & Emma. What an absolutely wonderful and informative review. We never tire of hearing that our guests and their hounds have enjoyed themselves but to know that the thought we put into every aspect of our business is appreciated is worth it's weight in gold. We're very pleased too that you mentioned the other aspects of your stay such as the walking, biking and pubs as they are all equally important to our future guests so will be very helpful to those reading your review. Thank you once again for taking the time to write such a kind and helpful appraisal of your accommodation, our business and the local area and facilities. Here's hoping to see you both again soon.

“A perfect getaway in a beautiful location”
Reviewed November 26, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

Spent 6 days staying in The Old Bike Shed which looks as though it really shouldn't be big enough for 3 adults and a small dog! However it was absolute heaven - very cosy and warm especially considering the weather was very cold. Nikki and Jason are perfect hosts and even provided us with an extra chilled bottle of wine when we ran out on the first night! The Old Bike Shed was equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay - the beds were so comfortable, the views from the garden absolutely stunning. and the most welcoming place to stay for dogs that I have ever been to.There is so much to see and do in this beautiful location, fantastic walks on your doorstep, breathtaking scenery and superb pubs selling great food and local beers. I would highly recommend Brechfa Forest Barns to anyone looking for a perfect weekend break or a longer holiday. Thank you Nikki and Jason - it was just what we needed.

“Comfy and cost - perfect escape in the forest”
Reviewed November 26, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

I stayed in The Old Bike Shed at Brechfa Forest Barns with two members of my family and a wee hound - it was such a fantastic weekend! The cottage would probably ideally suit just two people (Nikki our host did mention that before we came, though - we were the ones who decided to squeeze in with an extra person!) and it was such a warm, relaxing space to curl up in. Nikki and Jason are very welcoming hosts and just next door if you need anything, and you have the world at your feet with all these wonderful walks (and pubs!) just minutes away. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds extremely comfy. I travel for a living so stay in a lot of different places, but this is high on my list of favourites - would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

Well, that's high praise indeed coming from a travel journalist! Thank you Emma. We're particularly pleased to receive this very kind review for our newest "mini" accommodation. Yes, we agree too that it is more suited to 2 guests but the flexible bedding options (zip-linked mattresses up on the mezzanine and downstairs wall beds) allowed us to accommodate the 3rd member of your party when requested. We're just delighted you enjoyed your stay.

“What a wonderful place to stay just perfect”
Reviewed November 11, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We stayed at Brechfa Forest Barns on 31/10/2014 to 7/11/2014, we arrived in the dark. Nikki was there to great us and show us into our beautiful cottage. We have 5 dogs and needed somewhere quite for the dogs over the firework week. Nikki cooked us a meal on the first night and this was delicious. The best experience was waking up the next morning and OMG the views over rolling country side. Nikki and Jason are perfect hosts and very welcoming with our dogs, nothing is to much trouble for them from advising the best walks to getting our television working for us. The cottage is home from home everything you need and tastefully designed very warm and cosy The walking is spectacular you have walks right on your doorstep or a 5 min. drive down a lovely lane you are spoilt for choice for walks. This has been one of the best cottages we have stayed in from wonderful hosts, beautiful cottage, great walks and no fireworks just peace and quite. Already booked to go back next year. Thank you Nikki and Jason for a wonderful stay

We always wonder when guests arrive in the dark what they make of the view they wake up to the next morning - now we know! Such a lovely review and kind to mention my cooking :) Nothing pleases us more than a repeat booking before our guests have actually left! See you next year :)

“Beautiful Cottage, Stunning Scenery, Helpful and Friendly Hosts”
Reviewed November 11, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

My sister and I stayed in the Hay Barn with three dogs in September/October 2014. Nikki was there to welcome us and show us around the very clean, cosy, comfortable accommodation. She told us all about the area which was backed up by a very extensive Welcome Pack.
The forest walks were stunning and the beaches, slightly further afield, were huge and dog friendly. There are lots of dog friendly pubs around and, although we did not try Nikki's famous cooking, it will be on the list next time. :-)
The fence surrounding the garden is quite low and therefore not suitable for all dogs. However, I do understand Nikki's reasons for not making it higher as it would obscure the view. The height is obvious from website photos, so potential guests can clearly see if it would be an issue for them.
Whilst staying we had to visit the vet, due to one of our dogs hurting his paw. Nikki recommended a vet in a nearly town who saw us the same day. The vet we saw was friendly, caring and my Golden Retriever seemed in no rush to leave her!
All in all the location, cottage, walks, scenery and welcome were wonderful and leaves me in no doubt we will return.

How lovely :) Thanks a million for your really informative review. It's so important that potential guests get the whole picture so mentioning the local vets and height of fence (3 ft) is helpful. Thank you so much. Here's hoping you can make a return visit soon :)
