Our stay in the Dalvay unit of awesome view apartments in March, 2018, was such a delightful experience. Our Host, Scott, was so gracious and helpful with logistics and advice about restaurants and navigating the island. He arranged airport pickup and additionally offered to drop us off more than once when on his way to run errands. The view is “awesome” from our unit even in inclimate weather with dramatic skies and stunning sunsets. The apartment is comfortable, homey, relaxing, spacious and remarkably close to a small grocer and to downtown Hamilton on foot. We enjoyed walking in the residential neighborhood and admired the plants and landscaping. Do find your way to Miles Market downtown if you enjoy preparing your own gourmet meal. Ask at the bus terminal for the book of passes that include access to the ferries. That is the most economical and convenient way to go. What a happy island with warm, friendly people. Indeed, we felt like we were visiting an uncle that we had not seen in a long while. Scott was always there. He even provided a cell phone for local and emergency use during our stay. In addition, Scott pointed out that each room is provided with an emergency first aid kit that happily we did not need to use. He has thought of everything. It is a little piece of paradise. Thank you Scott for sharing your home. We shall return.
We rented Scott’s “Dalvay” apartment in late April. "Awesome" is the only word for the view from the French doors and balcony: a 270 degree view of the Great Sound and Fairyland that we will treasure in our memories. Applies to the host too.
The Dalvay apartment is perfect for two — a home away from home. Very nice full kitchen, comfortable bed with the awesome view, and a sitting room between. Two TVs with cable and one DVD player with a selection of DVD movies. Shower/bath. Coffee, filters, salt, pepper, towels. Collection of books including local guides. North American 110v electrical outlets. Fan and air conditioning. Easy taxi ride from the airport.
Scott is a terrific host. He has been in the business for years in his family home and knows all the ins and outs for his guests. He has the routine down pat, setting us up for a great stay.
There is no handy bus stop. We walked the 35 minutes or took a taxi from the house to the bus depot in Hamilton, and then took the right bus from there to everywhere on the island. Taxis are fast, easy and friendly. Walking through the windy, flowered Point Shares streets is a treat. We did not stress over scooters: taxis and buses are handy and cheaper in the longer run, and far safer.
Groceries: Miles is for expensive fancy largely prepared foods, but we preferred the less expensive grocery stores with better selections of fresh/frozen foods to cook with. We shopped at the end of the day at The Market a block from the bus depot and then walked a couple of blocks to the taxi stand beside City hall to get "home".
Scott's kayaks are stable and easy to use.
Don’t say “hi”, say a leisurely “good morning” or “good afternoon”. People are incredibly friendly and helpful in Bermuda.
