“Look no further for a place to stay in Havana”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 December 2009

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a visit to Cuba. We had an amazing time and the highlight of our trip was our time in Havana and staying at Casa Luis Miguel was a big part of that.
Havana is such a facinating city and Casa Luis Miguel is located in the perfect spot to explore it all. Luis and his family were very friendly and accomodating and always there to answer questions or set you in the right direction.
The rooms are large, clean and both have attached bathrooms with plenty of hot water. There is also air conditioning for those hot nights.
We ate breakfast both mornings in their beautifully decorated living room. The breakfast is wonderful and so big I doubt you will be able to eat it all.
We also had dinner one night at the Casa and it was the best meal of our entire trip.
I highly recommend if you are going to Havana to stay at Casa Luis Miguel ...home stays are WAY better than hotels and give you the real flavour of Cuba.

I loved staying here. Luis Miguel is a real gentleman and he helped us in so many ways. His breakfasts are wonderful too. I certainly recommend this place!

This was our first time in Cuba and on arriving at Casa Luis Miguel late at night we were welcomed into Luis' family house. A friend had recommended the Casa and we stayed for 4 nights and then returned for our last night on the way out. The Casa is well presented with a collection of old family heirlooms and the food is better here than any of Havana's restaurants. Luis Miguel was extremely helpful, booking us at various Casas across the country - all which were ideal. We would highly recommend a stay at Casa Luis Miguel as it is great value, a peaceful retreat and a great location away from, but close enough to, the more touristy Havana Veija

For the first 3 nights of our stay, Luis Miguel sent us to the Casa Particular upstairs (Alina y Vicente), without telling us that it was a different Casa Particular. Moreover, I suspect that Luis intended for us to believe it was the same one. This is not at all obvious, as they share the same entrance-way. I remember being quite surprised that our room didn't match the expectation I had from trip advisor and other reviews. On the 1st morning Luis said we were to move downstairs after the 3rd day, which we thought odd at the time, and then it dawned on us what had happened. Come the 3rd day, we reminded Luis that we'd like to move downstairs, but oddly Luis now persuaded us not to! I don't know why he suddenly changed his mind, maybe the owners of the upstairs Casa persuaded Luis that they wanted to keep our custom. We insisted though, and we were then moved downstairs, into Luis's Casa. What a difference! The problem is, for the next few days we sensed some distance from Luis, and also a bit of tension, which we thought was a shame. Maybe he was just embarrassed, or worried we were annoyed with him, which we weren't. However, the last day he relaxed, and we left on good terms. He gave us a hug when we left, and said he hoped we would leave good comments for him! Cheeky!

I have to say, Luis's casa is very good, and I agree with all previous comments about it. I regret that we stayed in a different casa for the 1st 3 nights, as it didn't come close to matching the quality of Luis's casa, yet we paid the same amount for it. Also, we spent many hours researching and reading reviews of Casas before we left, so we feel some of that time was wasted really.

I would like to make another point. On the main website, http://www.cuba-junky.com/havana/casa-luismiguel.htm there are some inaccuracies. On our 1st 3 nights we didn't have a private bathroom (although that was a different Casa). Luis's Casa doesn't have an independent entrance - you have to ring the bell to get in. Once the bell didn't work, and another time we pressed it repeatedly and had to wait about 5 minutes before being let in. There is a fridge, but no mini-bar. There are no double beds.

My advice to any future guest - if you're booked to stay with Luis Miguel, his casa is on the ground floor only, so make sure you stay on the ground floor! The Casa upstairs looks like what you might expect from the exterior. Luis's Casa is in a different league.

Luis Miguel was an exceptionally gracious host, full of advice and tips on things to do in Havana. The courtyard provided a calm spot amid the bustle of centro habana and the perfect spot to have a drink with fellow travellers. Highly recommended.

my friend and I stayed at Casa Luis Miguel at the beginning of May. Luis is a very friendly and helpful man who speaks excellent English. The house is of a very high standard, with period furnishings and the best breakfasts in Cuba. We met interesting fellow travellers and Luis encourages everyone to mix, which worked very well for us and proved to be very interesting. I would definitely go back there again and recommend my friends to stay there too.

If you need accommodation, dinner bookings, guide with car etc in Havana at short notice, Luis is the man. Extremely friendly and helpful, speaks excellent English and with a casa that is well located (one block off the Malecon), well maintained and beautifully decorated with antique furniture (he is an interior decorator) can recommend without hesitation. If you are invited to dinner, do accept - excquisite meals.
