I arrived to Cuba without any accomodation booked. A girl I met in the airport recommended Casa 1932, but it was already full so Senora Maria took me to her Casa Particular and... when I went there I thought I'm paying 30 CUC and I'm getting a veny neat room (with an AC which is a blessing in Cuba) and clean new bathroom. It turned out, that this is the price for the whole apartament! And they have everything there! There is kitchen, big fridge, purified water, set of dishes, nice shady living room with a balcony and a view for a see! It's maybe not in the old center (Habana Vieha) but its quiet and very very neat. I would stay there for longer, but there was no place for the next day... The owner is a lovely, very helpful person.

Room Tip: There is only one apartment i guess...

Maria is a very warm, welcoming individual. Her place is clean, well kept, and if you rent both rooms, you have pretty much the whole apartment to yourself. This includes a small kitchen, fridge, living room, and balcony with a nice view.

The only drawback of Maria's place is the neighbourhood. The apartment is on a busy-ish street, and Centro just seems a little sketchy. After travelling around Havana for a few days Havana Vieja is nice because of the beautiful architecture, and Vedado is also quite nice.

Anyhow, on the plus side, Maria's place is located right between Havana Vieja and Vedado, and it is very close to the Malecon, which makes for a really nice walk at sunset, so I'd definitely still recommend Maria's place, especially if you want to get a feel for how Havana for locals is!

We had the most amazing stay at Casa 1940. Luis (her nephew) & Doris (her daughter) personally picked us up at the airport and took us to Maria's Casa. They both speak excellent English which was a bonus for us! Casa 1940 is clean, spacious and perfectly positioned one block from the Malecon. Luis gave us great advice and helped to arrange tours, taxis and anything else we needed. Maria is the best host (familia) that you could ask for with very genuine care for her guests. She also speaks pretty good English and nothing is a problem (laundry, making phone calls etc.) Breakfast is amazing and totally to be recommended. You would go a long way to get better care. casahabana@gmail.com
Thanks Maria for the wonderful care in Habana, we wish we could take you home with us! xxxJen&Steve

Maria is an intelligent, kind and interesting woman. I enjoyed talking to her and her daughter very much. Casa 1940 is spacious and comfortable with a lovely view of the ocean. I highly recommend this casa. The food was lovingly prepared and tasty. This is so much better than a hotel.

This warm and friendly casa exceeded our expectations in every way.If you are craving a taste of the real Havana away from the sterile overpriced hotel room you won't be disappointed. Clean, tidy and comfortable with excellent optional breakfast served by Maria, our charming and welcoming host for five memorable nights. Taxi into the town centre is a 5min ride and about £3 sterling equivalent or a 30min gentle stroll via the seafront. If you want an evening meal, just reserve a table at another casa (owned by Luis Miguel) nearby (one minute walk) run by the same family (Food excellent there too). And everything is great value for money. We really didn't want to leave this place. Chris Cheesman and Grazia Biancotti, March 2011

Casa 1940 is a very nice, silent and clean place, in centro Havana, near the Malecon: you can see the sea from the house! Maria is lovely... she have been very helpful to me, I was sick and she treated me like a mother. I would recommend this casa to a couple, or to someone looking for a quiet and cozy atmosphere.
