In one of the corners of Plaza Vieja you'll find a colorful and lively new bar/restaurant which produces their own beers. In addition, they serve a wide range of snacks, small dishes and fully fledged dinners. I can recommend their hamburger and a pint of beer for just 3,50 CUC. Prices are human for a place like this which of course is a magnet for tourists. But I noticed quite a few of local people drinking as well! Live music outdoors make the whole experience worth while. One of the specialties is 6 pints of beers served in a glass cylinder for 12 CUC. Nice to be able to sit round a table pouring your beers from your very own tap. A lot of grilled food - I tried the skewer with shrimps and lobster; excellent! One warning: stay away from the shrimp cocktail; I have never ever been served such tasteless, rubberlike small lumps of something called shrimps!
Regardless, this is a find - are you in the old historic Havana, get to the old square. Visit the attraction camera obscura before enjoying the beers and food at the 'factory'. Later in the evening, pop in at the Terverna on the opposite corner to listen to Buena Vista Social Club! (Starts 9.45 pm)

Great bar on Plaza Viega, it brews it's own beer. There are 3 beers, light (lager), dark (like a dark beer or ale) and black (more like a pale than a stout). All can be ordered in large drinks dispensers to your table (or in pints etc), which consist of a tall tube with a spout at the bottom. Looked great fun, but it was to much for us on our own. Great setting and atmosphere at night, with live music. We only ate lunch here once and had sandwiches. The Cuba sandwich was stuffed with meats and was superb, but the vegetable sandwich veggie option was awful, with lettuce and tomato only. They did skewered meats on a rack which seemed popular too. Very lively and well worth a visit.

Been to this bar many many times, I find the beer here to be quite good, I am not so keen on the food offerings here, but some of the appetizers offered are acceptable. This is a great place to relax and enjoy good times with friends. The service here can be spotty at times, but understandable as they get quite busy at times. I recommend getting a table outside.

Definitely worth a visit !!!

Situated on the corner of the old square which has been renovated. Very pleasant in the afternoon or evening. The food is OK and the beer excellent and good value at two CUC s for a nearly pint. The brewers are friendly and it has been there 8 years. the only one of its kind in Cuba

We stopped here for lunch, which we soon regretted. The service was rude and unhelpful, and we ended up pretty much being forced to order the (expensive) shrimp/lobster skewers... which ended up being undercooked flavourless and actually pretty unappetising....and I LOVE lobster! The beer was nice and cold, but the service and food make this a place to stop for a breather whilst enjoying the sights of the old town, rather than a place to stop for food. El Tempete is a better bet for good food - although the service there wasn't amazing either, but not positively bad as it was here.

NOT recommended for food.
Recommended for a quick stop/beer.
