Cheap hotel but rather not for Europeans

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 28, 2019via mobile
Hotel rather for local people, full of tourists in September (mainly Cubans). Queues everywhere-to reception,to bars,to the restaurant (during breakfast, lunch and dinner). In the restaurant there is only one cook, who prepares the main dish. There is always at least 20 min. queue. Every morning you have to wait for your omlet;) Local people take loads of food to their plates -once one lady took all the cheese from the tray,so there was nothing left for me and other guests;) There is simply not enough food for all the people despite the efforts of the staff.
The hotel is not very clean. Old and stinky sheets, dirty furniture. There are problems with lifts and air condition.
Poor drinks in bars - you will not get more combined drinks within your AI option.
The swimming pool full of chlorine, children and plastic cups-terrible! Beer is available only in one bar by the swimming pool with huge queues. People are taking beer to their own containers! So you can wait very long for your turn.
From the positives: nice location - very close to the beach (just cross the street). The hotel has its own beach with straw umbrellas and deck chairs for all AI guests.
We had a very nice view to the sea (9th floor),but there was no balcony. And as advantage I will add nice entertainment programme. Every evening different performance, but sometimes too loud when you have your room close to the scene.

Never again to this Hotel. Dirty, no food, full of Cubans and obviously staff serve them before tourist, always out of everything (beer, cola, seven up and even water) have to pay for water !! Room gets cleaned (ya right) no towels, no toilet paper refill, bed barely made. We were not able to have beach towel for a week, the site is completly discusting. The kitchen is the worst, stinks like cat litter everywere, only papaya and pineapple for fuits (full of flies), no toaster for the bread, only 2 small table for the buffet that are always empty, no salad, out of the 9 tray 4 were rice and only 1 had meat (well meat... Let's say full of grease with some piece of whatever meat)... Me and my boyfriend are used to do 3* hôtels and we are not picky at all! But we were forced to go eat 3 times outside since they was no food, nothing to drink. If you are planning to go there, investing a little more for another one could save your week and give you better vacation time.. Oh and let's not forget that we were both sick, all week...

GOOD,The room was a good size and the view was amazing, the beach beautiful and clean. I was on the 9th floor and had great water pressure, hot water was available. Location was perfect, everything was within walking distance.I have included pics.
BAD, Food was bad, bring your own cutlery, bring a travel mug and bring a travel cup, you would thank me later for this. Bring ketchup and mustard packs. They water theirs down. Now there’s apparently an a la carte for pizza,I was there for 8 days and never got to go,place was always close. Snack bar only serve hamburger, but stand there to make sure she cooks it all the way through, at the snack bar was fresh fruits and drinks which was left open all the time for flies DO NOT EAT. I skipped meals daily so as not to deal with anyone. Staff rude and English is only available if you have money in your hand. Bring a candle cause the room smelt musty and so does their bedding and towels. My bed was broken in 3 different places and mattress was just spring. See pic. I slept sideways at foot of bed. There’s an alarm that went off everyday around 620am to 8am. There’s AC that works but they didn’t seal around it so you can hear everything from outside, bring ear plugs it would drown out the street noise but not the alarm. Bring your own beach towels, if it gets stolen they would charge you $15CUC =$25CAD. Do change your money at the bank it’s like 6 blocks away. WIFI is available in the lobby where everyone smokes for $1CUC per hour via a phone card. Walls are supper thin you can hear everything your neighbors are doing, you have to slam you door to close it all the way. Don’t bother complain to front desk they don’t care. They didn’t offer a lock box in my room, so I was creative in hiding any valuables other guest not so lucky, again front desk didn’t care they weren’t even surprised. Take baby wipes and Kleenex packs with you(life saver). Lots of locals and Russians stay at this hotel. Be prepared to deal with Rude, pushy and aggressive Russian guest, there attitude despicable, because Europeans don’t tip, the staff force and guilt Canadians into constantly tipping, it gets super annoying by day 3. There was 1 lady in the lunch room, short older black lady, when her team is on shift, amazing service, regardless of whether you were gonna tip or not, her and the beach was the best part of this trip.

the good...In the heart of Veradero so everything you need is literally just outside the front doors.

the bad....food inedible, drink choices minimal, lobby bar lineup takes 20mins for anything.

Outside the hotel, right across the street is where we ate lunch just about every day. For breakfast we would walk a few block and get a pineapple and ham pizza for $1 CUC with freshly squeezed juice for $0.15 CUC all served out of a window of a local Cuban house. You are right beside 1 of the largest markets and directly across the street from the beach that does not have a beach bar. If you are looking for a place to lay your head and enjoy walking the streets of Varadero, then this is the place for you. If you are looking for a resort experience, do not stay here.

When you're booking 3-stars all-inclusive hotel don't expect something outstanding. This hotel offers good deals for good price. Pool smells like chlorine, so I don't advise you to stay in it for too long. You can't get in the lift from some floors except ground-floor due to broken control panels, so you should use the stairs.

It is easier to point out the good..... the shower, the maid, the beach bar, and that is all!!!
food very limited and you had to be quick before the staff stole it...spoons??? bring your own. filthy dinning conditions and no AC. Lobby area dirty and in poor condition. washrooms...disgusting. this place should be torn down ....I know you get what you pay for...but not in this case. I have been to Cuba 12 times so I know what to expect. We were there april 2016

Room tip: even number rooms have a small balcony
