“What a great place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2012

I stayed for a week in the middle floor of the Blue house, a two bedroom, two and one half bathroom unit with equal sized bedrooms/en suites, full kitchen and living room, and a spacious deck that overlooks the Caribbean. The deck has a walkway that joins the deck of the upper apartment in the Green house, also a two bedroom, so both of these together would be ideal for a larger group. The apartments are as beautiful and stylish as the pictures.
I was originally going to travel with friends, but wound up going alone. From the moment I walked in, I was made to feel right at home. Anton gave me a welcome drink and a few minutes to decompress and listen to the surf in the lounge, and Yuri made me a grilled ham and cheese sandwich--great comfort food at the end of a long day on planes and in terminals. The whole staff is welcoming, accomodating, and laid back, and I can't say enough good things about them. Yvette, Daniel, Anton, Joshua, Yuri, Tom, Bob, everyone else that I saw occasionally--you all are fantastic.
The location, in the historic Pietermaai district, is great for those that want to get a feel for life on the island outside of a self contained resort. The neighborhood is on the rise, with lots of buildings being restored. A few travelers may be put off by the state of disrepair of some of the houses--diamonds in the rough--but the area is quite safe and walkable, as long as one uses the common sense that anyone should use in unfamiliar surroundings. I enjoyed getting to know the area, walking to the Punda and Otrabanda areas every day. One would probably want to rent a car for at least a day or two, though, to explore more of Curacao, and to stock up the kitchen at Albert Heijn!
Thanks again, everyone at Scuba Lodge, for a great vacation. I look forward to returning!

I just came back from visiting Curacao and staying at Scuba Lodge. The staff were excellent. They made sure you had everything you needed and more. The view from the balconies of the ocean was beautiful. Everything about Scuba Lodge was 5 star.

Room Tip: Make sure you book earlie and get a room with a balcony facing the ocean.

We stayed in the Scuba Lodge with our family - meeting from the USA and Europe. We rented an apartment in the yellow house - downstairs. Which was perfect for our needs. We traveled with an infant and the hotel provided a baby bed a high chair and extra towels.
They also recommended this specific apartment because it had a bit of garden space in between the pool and the porch and no stairs where little toddlers could get hurt pretty bad.

We ate in the hotel a few times - i can recommend the BBQ! the lunch menu was a bit pricy for what they offered.

The hotel is conveniently located to walk to town and grab a bite to eat or just shop around and look at the cruise ships.

The staff was very nice and helpful at all times. They even gave us a free ride to the grocery store so we could stack up on food to cook in the apartment.

The premises are nice and clean but there is still some work going on to fix some original buildings and add them to the hotel complex.

We also did a dive which was well prepared by the dive master and handled very calm and professional. The price was good as well as the dive site.

The only drawback is the missing beach - if you are very adventurous you can go in the ocean via some slicky stairs and rocky reef but with a kid this is an absolute no go. Too bad but still.....

We would come back to this hotel for sure!
Hopefully soon

We are staying in the new suites adjoining the lodge. Our suite (Green upper) is newly renovated. They have thought of almost everything you could need. It has a brilliant kitchen which is well equipped and very functional. The deck has a great view of the pool and ocean. The beds are comfortable and it is extremely clean and well maintained. I am traveling with two interior designers and both are impressed by how stylish the suite is. The location is perfect. It is a bit of an up and coming neighbourhood, but great restaurants are nearby. Try Gingers for dinner, and the coffee at Cafe Bizarro is great. We loved being able to walk to the Punda, but feel a bit removed from the cruise ship tacky tourist area. Daytime feels very safe to walk. At night they have a security guard outside. We felt fine walking as a group at night but would take a taxi if alone late at night. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming.

Room Tip: Choose the green upper ocean side view. It is the most stylish we saw. The deck has a great view...

The property is stunning at first glance. Infinity pool was much appreciated. Stylishly furnished rooms with a top-notch kitchen. Lack of a beach was a real drawback. Ceiling fans and A/C were very quirky & not always reliable. No amenities provided in the bathroom. Towels were never changed over a five night stay. And we had a major cockroach problem in the bathroom. (Biggest roaches we've ever seen! The exterminator had to be called twice.) The ex-pat Dutch staff in the pub/cafe were really fun & always willing to help with anything, except when it came to housekeeping issues, which were handled by a separate staff, all locals & very unfriendly.

If you plan to stay here, rent a car. (Adequate street parking.) Not much to see in the immediate area. Supermarket is a reasonable drive away. Really too hot outside after 10:00 AM for any serious walking about.

We'd return to the Scuba Lodge, if it were anywhere else but Curacao. Not worth the long flight from the northeast USA. No decent, sandy swimming beaches. Biggest thing in Willemstad is a gigantic oil refinery. And the island is dotted with oil tank farms on the coast. How scenic.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the ground floor. No elevators. We didn't envy guests staying on the third floo...

My title says it all. Not flashy, but quaint, and unique. Great staff - SO friendly. I received my cerification with them and they put up with my terrible Dutch and even acted impressed! The rooms are adequate, clean, and simple. Wireless internet was a plus. The little cafe/bar in the lobby was a great place to hang out, and breakfast with strangers was a nice touch.

The price was right. And you could walk to Emmabrug and downtown area.

We loved this hotel! While it's a great value and has a great location (good restaurants nearby), the staff definitely makes it.

This is not for the resort or cruise type of person. The atmosphere is low-key and relaxed.

They make the diving very easy there, you can just grab the gear and go on your own if you want. You can also get certified if you aren't already, you can shore dive right in front of the hotel or you can go to one of the sites around Curacao with or without a Scuba Lodge guide.

The owner is doing a lot of upgrades, many of the photos shown by travelers are obsolete already. We stayed in one of the regular rooms but we got a tour of the apartments - they are spectacular. We are already planning our trip there next year with some friends so we can stay in one of the apartments.
