We stayed here for two days in April. This hotel is nice but overall we were disappointed in our stay. The court yard and pool area is nice. The location is ideal and close walking to Conial Zone. I was suprised that there were not even pictures on the walls or an alarm clock. The rooms are very clean and simple. Beyond those items there was little else we enjoyed about our stay. The hairdryer stopped working the first day, it actually started smoking. We informed the front desk in the morning and upon returning to our room that evening were disappointed to find that the dryer had not been replaced. We had to wait 30 minutes for repair man to replace. We were even asked at one point if the dryer was necessary. We asked the front desk for a bucket of ice and had to call twice to get it delivered. The minibar fridge was not working. Each night of our stay we were awoken by drunks, also staying at the hotel, coming back from their night out. Breakfast is nice, but overpriced around $50. All of these small problems started to add up. Next time when in Santo Domingo I will be saving my money and staying somewhere else.

I have stayed in this hotel at least six or seven times over the last three years, and it is far and away the best hotel in Santo Domingo. Of course it is a little more expensive, but this is a full service hotel with a staff that treats their job as a profession, like a fine hotel you might find in France or Spain.

I agree with another reviewer about how gracious and warm Carmen, the concierge is. It is always a pleasure to see her. When I stay at the (less expensive) Hotel Frances (same chain, same great service), I usually stop in to say hello to Carmen!

Room Tip: My favorite rooms have a view of the river, but it is hard to discern sometimes from the room descri...

Please bare in mind this is a personal problem but could happen to any guest of this hotel. I was a guest here for more than 2 months on business, up until the incident the hotel was fine but it is expensive for drinking especially, my room was the 4020 higher priced room well internal of the hotel in a block of 4 on the top level and was only accessible by a bridge from the upper level corridors. This is the issue the room was entered by keycard or being left open by the cleaning staff, my total luggage was stolen from my room with no forced entry, the room is well inside the inner sanctum and the hotel is only possible to enter by 3 doors, the main reception the door near the restaurant and the staff entrance. The hotel refused to except the fact it had happen and are less than helpful they even did not offer to even cover the items under insurance? the problem is that it happened to me but could happen to any guest? MY OPINION DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL??? its your choice

Room Tip: 190 dollars for the one i stayed in suites more expensive other rooms 170 dollars lobby bar drinks e...

We stayed here for a few days starting March 17. Our son was playing baseball in the area and it truly suited our needs. The hotel is spotless. Our room was smallish but very clean and the staff incredibly helpful. Hard to find an English speaking employee, but we weren't in America! They tried to communicate as best they could and we got to work on our Spanish! I especially want to mention Carmen, the concierge.....She welcomed us by name, arranged for transportation....had many restaurant recommendations and even helped us find the NCAA basketball tournament on the tv in the bar! A plus for our son who was worried we wouldn't see our beloved Buckeyes. Thanks Carmen! If we ever find ourselves in the Santo Domingo area in the future, we'll definitely stay here. Only negative was the cost of breakfast...a bit high....good food, but a bit overpriced.

The hotel is superb. The food is excellent. But it is noisy around the pool (traffic and harbour activities).

We recently spent a week in Santo Domingo staying at the Hostal Nicolas Ovando. This is a well run hotel, nicely situated in the colonial zone. We would highly recomend this hotel, it is spotless and has a staff that goes out of there way for you.

Room Tip: balconies on the 3rd and 4th floors are a plus, over the 1st& 2nd.
