Stayed Dec 29 - Jan 5th

First impression driving up was, old hotel with a fresh coat of paint. Lobby was beautiful when we walked in. Very bright with new furniture.

Check in was painless. Nice glass of fruit punch for everyone. Given map of the resort and guided to our room.

Room - Building # 3 first floor. Good size with very nice new furniture. Bed was very firm and pillows were big and fluffy. View from "patio" was poor as we were the last room on the floor and we looked directly to where the work staff seem to have their meeting \ locker area. This made for the noisiest room I have every stayed in. Workers start by 06:00 and that's all you hear. They push their work carts which are really loud. There are many of the workers who like to sing and have lots of laughs right outside the window which may as well be wide open. There was one day something was being repaired or delivered cause the push carts started at 03:50. Now we get to the weekend when the big Club just outside the resort fired up the music and at time the water glass on our night table would vibrate. That lasted till just before 02:00. We did not hear any noise from the rooms beside or above which surprised us. So disappointed in the noise resulting in no a very restful vacation. Water pressure was great and tons of hot water. Couches and sitting area in room were very comfortable.

Grounds - They are well maintained and the resort is very clean. Public bathrooms when working were very clean.

Lay out - Broke into the pool area where night activities occur and the beach area. There is a 3-5 minute walk between the two. You walk beside another resort to get to the beach. Covered path mostly.

Beach - Nice long public beach great for long walks. Resort uses palm trees for shade instead of palapas which was nice. Beach furniture was nice and new. Always room in shade or sun. Beach is patrolled by vendors but they are not pushy.

Pool - Suited to small size of resort. Gentle walk in so no stairs or ladders. During day it is very quiet with beds or loungers to relax in. No pool bar which was a surprise. There is also an elevated Jacuzzi on top of the pool bar that gives a more secluded area to take in the sun and sights.

Food - Hit and miss. Order steak below your normal "like temperature" should help. Pasta was good. None of the restaurants jump out as must have. Buffets were typical all inclusive.

Staff - Restaurant staff still need some work on the how and when's of the business. ie: after my wife took a bite of the perch filet and coming with 4 bones in the first bite she wanted to order something else on the menu. The manger told her it was fish and they have bones. Very true but shouldn't when served as a filet...or maybe that's just the rest of the world.
Maintenance staff were very friendly and full of smiles.
Maid service was again very friendly and did an outstanding job.
Lobby personal were very helpful when we needed them. Our needs were taking care of immediately.

Animation Team - young and full of energy. Shout out to Pokémon and Lily! They kept me busy with fun games and just shooting the breeze. Please take part in a couple of the activites.....lots of prizes at night for those that participate. Take a ride in a catamaran, or kayak or grab a boogie board and hit the waves.

Overall - the charm of this resort is how small and intimate it is. Lots of places to relax and reenergize the body and soul which is what a vacation should be.

Room Tip: Building 3 ground floor was VERY noisy.

Location of this hotel is ok. Playa Dorada area in Puerto Plata. Lobby looks good.

Room.- My wife and I stayed in a Nirvana Superior room. Our room had two beds and they were very comfortable. However we had some issues like while you are taking a shower, the water will come out of the shower area and flood the bathroom and will go out of the bathroom into the bedroom. I believed that this is a problem in most of the bathrooms This problem needs immediate attention. Nowhere to hang the towels in the bathroom. Nowhere to sit in the room other than the bed. A/C was fine. Toilet was not working properly. No water coming out of the tap. I asked at the front desk when we were leaving and I was told that we were the first one's to use the room. Not enough room to put your clothes.

Pool.- Nice pool, water temperature ok. enough chairs with umbrellas if you get there early.

Restaurants.- Three a la carte, no reservations needed and one buffet style, food average.

Beach.- Great, enough long chairs but no umbrellas, however there are palm trees that you can bring your chairs to give you shade, sometimes all the shade areas are occupied .

Workers in the hotel.- Always smiling, nice people but some are still on a training mode specially the bartenders, they need to get more experienced.

Entertainment.- Not so good, too far from where people sit. Sometimes nothing is on for about two hours between 7pm and 9 pm. Would love to see dancers dancing a Dominican Republic regional dance.

Room Tip: There are rooms with great view

I booked this resort with a couple of friends and stayed there from Dec 27th to Jan 3rd. There are definitely pros and cons to the resort.

Some of the pros are the resort is new (opened in Dec 2015) and therefore everything is in good condition i.e. furniture and the overall amenities. The pool area is nice. There are day beds and nice/comfortable lawn chairs surrounding the pool. These chairs get occupied fairly early in the morning, however. The resort is small and it has a boutique style vibe and is easy to navigate. The resort supplies small bottled water at all the bars which is good as you typically have to purchase bottled water in most resorts. The walk to the beach is short (about 5 mins) along a paved path. There are plenty of lawn chairs on the beach and the beach is actually nicer than I expected. It's a nice stretch of sand and the sand was very clean. I was told prior to going that Puerto Plata's beaches are not that nice but I didn't mind it all. The resort hosted a nice New Year's Eve party with fireworks and music by the pool which we enjoyed. They also hosted a foam party at the pool on the Saturday which was fun.

Cons:
The staff is not always very attentive. There were pleasant workers at the resort but I think some needed more training possibly. Wait times at the a la cartes are loooong. You're looking at 1-2 hours to get your food. This resort offers unlimited a l cartes with no reservations which seemed like a bonus but they cannot accommodate the amount of people as most choose to dine at the a la cartes over the buffet. One night they even closed the buffet at dinner so people had no choice but to dine at one of the restaurants. The buffet food is ok but there are limited options especially at lunch and dinner. There are no theatres shows (yet) at night but they had some entertainment by the pool at night. I didn't find it so entertaining so they can improve there. The disco is pretty lame as well. Sometimes it would be empty with no one in there so if you are looking to party, this may not be the resort for that as adults only resorts tend to attract older couples.

If you're young and looking for a party, check out Cabarete beach at night. There are numerous beach bars lined up and people just hang out and drink around the beach and bars. You have to take about a 40 min cab there from this resort but it's worth checking out. It's probably fun during the day as well.

My recommendations for this resort would be 1) add a lobby bar as there is only one bar opened at night (the pool bar) and the disco bar which hardly anyone goes to. Also, the resort should provide an itinerary for the week which includes activities and times so people become more engaged. The entertainment staff was always trying to get people to participate in activities without advance notice. And lastly, reservations should be mandatory for a la cartes as the wait times were far too long and a lot of people were frustrated about that.

I feel like the reviews of the Heavens need some balance. My wife and I paid about $1500 each for our all-inclusive trip during peak season at a resort that had just completed a renovation - or a "facelift" as it might better be described. Some of the other reviews of this resort don't seem to take these factors into account.

I was reading a lot about the hotel here before we travelled and since we came back. It sounds as if a number of visitors had some unfortunate experiences that we were lucky enough to avoid. Taking into account what the hotel is (a mid-range all-inclusive resort), my wife and I were both satisfied with our stay.

The walk to the beach is only 5 minutes, and it's actually quite lovely. The landscaping is thoughtfully done and my wife and eye spotted several wild lizards. At night, it is romantically lit and makes for a nice return from dinner.

I consider myself an armchair restaurant critic. I did not arrive expecting gourmet food. Some of the dishes at some of the non-buffet restaurants truly exceeded my expectations. I also found the breakfast buffet to offer a huge variety, many items of which were tasty.

I will agree with other reviewers about the bartenders' lack of skill. Again though, what can you expect, the same training and thought that goes into a $15 cocktail? The beer, house red, and house white were all completely uninteresting and all completely drinkable. My standby evening drink was Johnny Walker Black with ice. The fact that they even offered Black Label was impressive.

Other than long walks on the beach and along the Playa Dorada ring road, my wife and I didn't go anywhere for the week. We found the excursions to be a bit lacking and slightly overpriced, but we really came to just lounge for a week, so we weren't disappointed.

There are three tiers of rooms as far as I could tell. The website is confusing on this point. Rooms with one bed for two people, rooms with two beds for 2-4 people (a bit silly for a couples resort), and rooms with a bed and a separate living area.

We had one of the rooms with two beds. It was cleaned every day, our bar was stocked. It took a while for the hot water to come sometimes, but it did. The air conditioner was just as noisy as any other air conditioning unit I've dealt with it and we slept through it just fine.

The wi-fi had excellent coverage throughout the resort, however the speed and reliability was poor, which is really how it should be. You're on vacation after all. No other reviewers seem to have figured this out, but the new TV's that they've installed into the rooms are Netflix capable. After adjusting some settings and installing a firmware update, my wife and I accessed our Netflix account, which made for hours of entertainment during the evening hours.

Three hours after arrival, we all wanted the next flight home!
We were five and booked two rooms. Definitely a 3 star at best!!
Horrible stench in both rooms.
Toilet flooded not overflowed but leaked all over washroom floor.
Showers flood all washroom floors. Covered and walked on wet towels all week.
All floor throughout room was damp to wet. We wore socks that got soaked.
So much condensation that we could not see out of our patio doors nor mirrors.
Everything was damp. Beds, clothes...just disgusting.
Nowhere to store your clothes besides a closet with very few hangers. Pretty much live out of your suitcase.
AC did not work in both rooms.
Bugs in room all over desk. yes! see pics
Food was horrible. Restaurants never all open and lineups at all times for terrible food.
Service is horrible. No friendly staff besides Orlando and Bernardo and the ''event people'' but no entertainment going on there unless you consider darts, bocce and dancing to the same 1970, 80 playlist night after night. So boring!!!
No premium alcohol there. Terrible wine, beer and i can't even describe the cocktails they tried to make.
Waiter service on the beach? Never saw one person. Line up on the beach to get drinks served by one waiter...so waited and waited for bottles of water cause the rest is poison.
Never saw a Jacuzzi. On top of pool bar is not a jacuzzi. It is a small cold pool. Pool is not heated. Probably around 78degrees.
Resort is not on beach nor is there a beach view.
Walk to the beach is about 10 minutes along a stagnant pond and noisy generators.
Same food is served day after day at beach.
Sun is great. Beach is nice. Big strong waves. They offer kayaking, and boogie boards but never saw paddle boards.
So glad to be back home!! What a terrible waste of money. Very disappointing. Had they rated it a 3 star, fine, we would have looked for something else but we went with the 4.5 to 5 star rating and the fact that it was bought out by a recognized company!. This trip was also a Christmas gift to our children. They would have preferred the cash equivalency!!!
Worst vacation yet.
