Just returned from Dreams palm beach a fews days ago and had to write my first review as I had read so many mixed reviews before going. I am not a picky traveller but had paid alot and travelled far for this trip. Travelled with my wife and another couple for a kid free break.
Deal breakers:
Rooms - third floor room with a lovely high ceiling. Really comfortable bed , spotlessly clean, and kept that way by housekeeping sometimes twice a day. Shower did leak but towels were fine to saok it up. No problems with water pressure, temperature or tiling. Toiletries were a nice touch too. We were in block 1 which would not be ideal if the kids were with us as the music is played at the gazebo from 7 til 11 on some nights.
Food - buffet had excellent choice for breakfast and lunch. Servers were very good and friendly. Nicest restaraunt was French restaraunt and had the best night at the Carribean night on the beach.
Entertainment - did not make it to any of the shows !!! but a great atmosphere during the day around the pool and in the resort at night.
Bars - only negative is that there is only one bar open at night (lobby bar) which can get a bit boring each night. Only other option was disco bar which was loud and empty.
The Staff are what really make this resort stand out, they are friendly, efficient and hard working.
Would definitely return and recommend this hotel to family and friends. Any question .. feel free to ask !!!

Excellent 5* resort, this resort accomodated 25 people aging from 12 - 65 years old. No reservations for restaurants, no wristband, excellent friendly staff, lots of food and drinks, and 24hr room service!

Would definetly recommend!! We stayed in the VIP section - honeymoon room.
fresh fruit, chocolates and champagne, beer every day !

1.the check in was brutal, slow and unorganized. They also had overbooked so some of our friends/family did not receive their rooms in the VIP section with us as paid for! Only after getting frustrated with the 'check in female supervisor/manager' who didn't give a damn and ovbiously missed the 'customer service training' and the fact I called our group travel agent as well, the resort provided the 'VIP perks' to our friends and family affected but not the room . So to appease us they upgraded the vow renewal package on the beach (which as absoloutely beautiful and lacked nothing, the private bar and room , the programs, the food, cake , music, decorations could not have been better) They also gave each said person a free full body massage appt at the spa (it was the best) On the upside our travel agent in Canada provided a small credit back as well.
2. yes the shower glass wall in the bathroom allows water on the floor.... but seriously if this is your biggest beef - be grateful!!

Room Tip: Upgrade to the VIP, larger room and perks (VIP pool, VIP beach and bali beds, VIP restaurant and lou...

We arrived at DPB on 3/16/2012 thru 3/24/2012. Although we have been in Punta
Cana yearly for the last 12 years, we have never been there on ST Patrick's Day & didn't know what to expect. I thought I would miss all the celebrating in the States, but the Entertainment Team did a fine job - green fountains, glittered bodies and all.

DPB is a smaller resort than we were use to. Everything was within a 5 minute walk. There was also an 11:00AM Catholic Mass in the Covention Center for those who wanted to go.

Check in/out: We stayed preferred & thought is was well worth it. Upon arrival we were wisked off to the Preferred Cllub House where we checked in & out in a timely manner. We were given a tour of the place & were in our room in a matter of 15 minutes.

Preferred Cllub House: It was right off the smaller pool attached to a restaurant. There was 2 large TV & deep seating chairs. Books to lend out, a Preimum Bar with all top Liquor Brands, some sort of pastry, fruit or cheese along with orange juice & coffee for Breakfast, Beach Towels, 3 computers for use by guests at anytime & WIFI was also free and worked great. If the door was locked to the club all you needed was your room key to open the door. Also, if you were drinking by the pool or beach they would give you plastic glasses but they would give you bottles of beer or glasses if you were going to your room or anywhere there was no sand or water. Anything you wanted you only needed to ask!

Pools: Both pools were kept immaculate and there was always enough lounge chairs to go around. Also, if you needed shade you could easily find it. They were beautiful at night.

Beach: Plenty of tiki umbrellas & lounge chairs around. Setting was beautiful! Yes, there was some seaweed washing up on the beach. The staff tried to keep up with it the best they could. Kudos to them!!! I must say this was the 1st time I have ever seen a beach that was concrete & then sand poured on top. I only know because I tripped & fell a little too hard for just sand. But all in all beautiful crystal blue waters kept calling you! There were locals who walked the beach & tried to sell things. If you wanted to look you had to go to them. They were not aloud more than 4 to 5 feet from the beach. DPB enforced that but they really were not a bother.

Food: We ate at the SeaSide grill, Buffet, Italian, Japanese, Mexican & the DPB Lobster Buffet for Apple Guests. All the meals were served hot & flavorful. The Staff was efficent & Friendly all the time. And if you been there you know that Simon loves his job! I manage an upscale restaurant so I am use to judging food quality, presentation, taste & friendly knowledgable staff. If you get something you don't care for or is not done right & don't say something politely to your server or management - SHAME ON YOU! They are here to please you & cannot read your mind. My only suggestion is to train the servers in the buffet for breakfast to offer more coffee refills. Your coffee is so good. It seems you get 1 cup and no refills even when you ask!..We all know Americans need there caffene!!

Lobby Bar & Courtyard: This was one of our favorite places at sunset. The Wedding Gazabo turned into a formal bar & top knotch musical talent played ( each night something different - latin-jazz- 70 & 80s- classical etc..) with small comfortable seating groups along the pathways. The musicians that entertained us played at a quieter level so you could carry on a conservation or dance if you wished. Clemente was an excellent bartender & made it a point to know your name & what you drank. By the way, I could use one on his capiriana while writing this.

Housekeeping & Rooms: We were in Rm 4309. If you can walk up stairs request the 3d floor. Our room was exceptionally clean & Mercidita was amazing.

Odds & Ends: Yes the Cancino was small but remember the resort is smaller. Big or Small they all can take your money!!! The Cafe was always busy. Speciality Coffee, tea & pastries, open earlly & late to get your fix. Also sold specially coffee to take home.

Evening Shows: DPB had the Best Shows in the DR. The Western Show was interactive & made you laugh till your cheeks hurt, At the Beach Party The Fire Show was exciting. The Circus was awesome. the gentlemen on the trapeze & the 2 gentlemen with their actrobic forms are equally as good as the preformers in Circus Sol Le. You also need to see Gasolina in Dirty Dancing! Don't miss him!

Entertainment Staff: DPB has the most remarkable entertainment staff. A few reasons that make them the best: - If its your 1st day & you are checking the place out, they make it a point to introduce themselves & ask your name. Everytime they see you they always have something nice to say. - If your traveling by yourself or are handicapped, they make you feel at home & keep you busy if you want. - These people work long hours. Its not unusual for them to be on the floor by 7 AM and not go to bed till after midnight or longer. They always have a kind work & a warm smile for you. I don't know how they do it!
I am afraid to list names because I don't want to miss someone. We felt like we were leaving family behind. They even came to say good-bye before we left. We can't wait till we return!!! Beauty, Hope to see you in Pittsburgh sometime.

If you have a question about DPB, I'm your girl. I love helping people enjoy themselves! Sorry for the long review but we just LOVE DREAMS PALM BEACH!! Be back soon. G & E

PS - Its 3 AM Sorry for the spelling

My family and I took a trip to Dreams Palms Beach Punta Cana this April. We had an excellent time. The hospitality was off the charts. We were greated with opens arms and a big smile. Everyone was friendly, including the entertainment group (Iliana, Gasolina, Beauty). The entire hotel was impecable. The rooms were clean, first rate, and the room service was second to none. The variety of food was abundant and delicious to the palate. Not having to make reservations for the resteraunts was a plus. The evening entertainment was spectacular with great live music, dance, and comedy. I recommend Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana to all, so come on down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The above holiday was booked for 14nights depart 20th March return 4th April. Unfortunately we returned to the UK 28th March, being totally disgusted with the Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana.

Deluxe Room, also advertised as 'Unlimited Luxury'

When we arrived at the hotel on 20th March, as we were booking in with reception we were escorted to see a hotel representative, before we went to our room, at this point after a long flight all we wanted to do was just check in and go to our room, but we were pressurised and felt intimidated, by the hotel rep, they were trying to offer us money and vouchers to go and view the 'Hotel Larimar', after about 45mins after the start of the discussion we got up and walked away. Throughout the 7days that we were there we were constantly pestered by these reps all around the hotel, they would not let up.

We had booked a deluxe room, when we arrived at our room, ), the ceiling fan not working, the air conditioning very poor, the shower room disgusting, mould on tiles, some tiles missing, foul smelling. The fridge did not work and there was no iron. We returned to reception, they did not seem concerned, they offered us another room.

The next room. Air Conditioning was not even working this time, the fridge also did not work. The shower door was hanging off. The hygiene in the room was awful, still hairs from previous guests everywhere, the shower was filthy, tiles missing, tiles were filthy, the drain in shower was overflowing with black slime. There was mite's everywhere in the room. "By this time I felt so sick".

our next room. Air conditioning poor, fridge did not work. The hygiene once again was disgusting. The shower was filthy, and when used the water ran out onto the bathroom floor. The shower door was not hung correctly, the hot water tap on the basin came off in your hand. The smell coming from the drains / plug hole was foul. The vent in the bathroom was open to rusty pipes and you could hear everything from the bathroom above, conversation, the lot !!!

Duvet on the bed had no cover on, we asked for one and never got one, Most days we had to ask for towels, they took the used ones but never replaced them with new. This room had inter-connecting door to the room next door, so once again we could hear everything.

The key swipe on the door only worked intermittently, we were constantly going to reception to re-validate our key card or wait for them to send someone from the maintenance team.

The patio door did not open/close correctly and did not lock.

8 coat hangers.. we asked for some more and never got any.

Hairdryer, wouldn't dry nothing
Beach towels were thread-bare

We constantly complained to reception, about everything and they were not one bit concerned, we even asked to speak to the Manager but they would not let us, they always made some excuse that they were not available.

They said we could upgrade if we were not satisfied but that we would have to pay.
This hotel was advertised as 5* Unlimited Luxury.

States every room is truly deluxe ?

Dress code..? this was not to be, it just did not exist, people just wore what they wanted.

Swimming Pool..Yes one is designated to children, but the children were always in the Pool with the swim up bar.

Lobby Bar at night.. over run with 'drunken very loud teenagers as young as 12-13' and the hotel management did nothing to control this.

Ocean front bars..? None

Gourmet meals ? More like fast / convenient food. Food left in serving counters from Breakfast, through to Lunch and the same food left for Evening meal all being fly ridden.

White sandy beach and crystal clear waters... Full of seaweed, you couldn't even see the clear water for seaweed, this was a known problem as a team of cleaners worked all day, every day attempting to remove the weed from the shore line !!

Fitness Centre ? Very poor approximately (3m x 4m box room) equipment not maintained, no air conditioning.

We visited the VIP rep on numerous occasions, they were not interested they just said to speak to hotel.

We requested to return to UK (23rd March). They did not want to help. Eventually on Sun 25th they got a phone number for Thomson office, for return flights, rep said she would sort out on Mon 26th at 9a.m. Rep arranged to meet us at 1045hr she turned up at 1140hr and told us there was seats available on Manchester flight on Tues 27th and we would have to pay 100 US Dollars to change, we said yes fine we were happy to do that. she said it was up to us to sort the rest and she would arrange taxi, so we took the number from her and we telephoned the given number.

We spoke to the Thomsons office and they said they had no recollection of any conversation with the VIP rep !!!

VIP rep had arranged to meet us at 1400hr she turned up at 1435hr. We explained what the Thomson office had said, once again she did nothing, she said it was up to us. We telephoned the Thomsons office again and eventually managed to book flights, we were charged £740 not the 100 dollars we were told.

When we came to leave the hotel on 27th March noon checkout, the hotel said we could not leave as we were booked in until 3rd April, they would not let our luggage be put in the taxi and were insistent that we could not leave. After heated discussion at the hotel reception, we walked away and insisted that our luggage to be released and placed in the taxi. It was our decision to leave, not the hotel to decide

Please anyone thinking of going to this hotel, don't even considerit.

Dear PeterCumbria:

Please receive very warm greetings from Dreams Palm Beach and thank you for sharing your comments with others, as we understand this helps us improve. Also, receive our most sincere apologies for the inconveniences you experienced. We hope you know it was never our intention to disappoint you in any way, in fact it is not representative of the service and facilities that distinguish our hotel.

We would like to address your concerns and provide you with facts for your information and consideration:

The representative you mentioned, is a concierge from our Unlimited Vacation Club, who provides our guests with Resort Coupons for all the guests who are entitled to receive them. These coupons are to be used for Romantic Dinners, Spa, Bottles of Wine, excursions and at the Casino. The coupons (Resort Credits) are totally optional, as well as the invitation they extend to go see our sister property and the guests can just refuse. They are actually not allowed everywhere, they have two specific desks, one at the lobby and the other next to World Café.

All requests are subject to availability, all reservations are for a room category, therefore not related to bedding. Actually there are no different rates for king or doubles. Of course, we do our best to fulfil our guest preferences to the best of what is available. All the technical issues addressed, except for the ceiling fan which was fixed in 10 minutes, were properly working when we checked, after you moved the first time. Our AC is centralized, meaning it feeds the entire resort, I have checked with our Maintenance manager who has confirmed our AC was working properly on those dates, and have also gone through all the reports of that day and the following and no other AC complaint was filed. We apologize if our system was not to your expectations. The minibars in all three rooms were working properly, we understand that you expected maybe an even lower temperature, we could’ve easily with our 24hr room service brought you colder drinks upon your request. Hair dryers turn automatically off after 5 minutes of use, as protection for the equipment and a security measure. It can be turned on after 5 minutes again.

Upon expressing your discontent, Front office offered a second room and then a third, not only their concern was showed, but their willingness to persist into making you happy. We are very sorry that none of the three rooms was to your satisfaction.

We take good pride in having more than 150 employees working in our Housekeeping department, maintaining all our rooms clean and absolutely spotless. As for the bathroom/shower, they might be a bit outdated as they are not modern in design nor brand new, but of their cleanliness we are certain.

It called our attention that you could not meet any manager, as we are in different areas, always available and willing to take very good care of our guests and it is part of our policy to face any concern or issue right away and get to a final and good resolution with the guest. All staff applies this policy. Additional to this, very visibly in the main lobby there is a table with all the Executive Commitee’s photo, complete name, position and direct extension, for any guest that wishes to contact any of them may do so directly or requesting it to the Operator.

We have addressed with Housekeeping Manager the missing linens, as we have very strict standards as of the amount of pieces that go on every room, our apologies if this standards were not met and caused any inconveniences. Regarding the towels, I must mention that we do have a sign in every bathroom where we invite our guests to contribute to the environment, indicating that we will only change the towels left on the floor and won’t change any left hanging on the hooks as we understand the guest wishes to contribute with us.

Our front desk staff advise all the guests at check in time that the room keys cannot be placed next to cell phones, digital cameras or any electronic equipment as they get deactivated. I understand this is an inconvenience, however our system presents no recurrent failure. Maintenance changed the batteries in your lock for precaution and ensure optimal functioning. The guests that have stayed in that same room right after your departure, have presented no problems with the lock.

Dress code is clearly detailed on our web page and explained at check in time, daily Sundial and at each restaurant. We do not make any kind of exception with this as it is a corporate policy. Please bear in mind that World Café Restaurant is exempt from this rule.

This is a family resort and there is a kids pool, however this does not mean that the kids cannot go into the other pools as long as they are with their parents. We do not advertise any pool for adults only.

The Dominican laws prohibit to serve alcoholic drinks to anyone under 18. There are signs at the bars stating this and the bartenders will ask for the ID to anyone who looks under 25. We reserve the right to serve drinks to anyone who does not have ID to demonstrate his or her age and we follow this policy very strictly as it is a legal thing where we could incur in serious fines.

We do not advertise any ocean front bar, we are sorry if there was any misinformation about this.

It is unfortunate to read that you did not find any of our six restaurant cuisines to your satisfaction. However, taste apart, our handling of food is impeccable, we actually have been awarded as the Top Quality Assurance in all the East Coast of the Dominican Republic due to our high standard of Hygiene. No tray of food is “recycled”, much less do we let it sit all day to compose the dinner offer. Our personalized cooking, instead of cooking in large industrial quantity, has certainly demonstrated to have a more satisfactory result from our guests. Our Chef is always available and when a guest is not satisfied with the food, he offers different options, even preparing individual food out of the menus in order to fulfill any special requests.

The Seaweed is a mother nature circumstance, accentuated by the heavy rains we have experienced this year, however exactly as you mentioned, we work hard in cleaning it every day and have staff in charge of having the shore line cleaned all day.

We acknowledge the rather small size of our fitness center, which actually has an AC unit of its own (mini-split) as we understand its importance in the exercising process. However we understand that you were expecting a cooler temperature in all the closed facilities.

There is a penalty for the early check out without any justification, the hotel was never notified of your early departure, and it is our policy to try to contact the Agency to ensure they are aware of your decision; this is what caused the delay in assisting you into the taxi, this is normal procedure in the case of any early departure.

We are torn to learn that in spite of all our efforts, our resort did not meet nor delivered all that you were expecting. We appreciate sincerely your feedback and will continue to work hard into guaranteeing that every guest has an extraordinary experience with us.

Should you have further comments or need any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me,

We travelled to Dreams Palm Beach in March 2012 in a group of 17 for my wedding. The groups ages ranged from 1 to 60 and all of us were impressed! I honestly cant understand why people are unhappy with this resort!

Arrival - On arrival our cases were unloaded from the coach by the bellboys who notes which cases were to go to which rooms. We were given a warm towel to freshen up with on arrival as well as a cocktail while room allocations were handed out, Because two of our party had been upgraded, we were taken, along with our luggage to the preferred club. The bellboys escorted us to our rooms and bought up our luggage.

Grounds - First impressions were how well the grounds were kept, They are beautiful, very well kept, there are always staff there maintaining the grounds, making sure they are kept immaculate.

Rooms - The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable (we had 7 rooms between our party and not one of us had a problem - we were in different blocks and two of the rooms were in the preferred blocks). I dont see what the problem with the bathrooms are, there is a frosted glass door between the toilet/shower and the sink so there arent any privicy issues. The shower ALWAYS had hot and cold water and a good flow, The bathroom floor did get a BIT wet - (not flooded) but that's to be expected! it was never a problem. Maid service twice a day and sheets/towels changed often, minibar was also refilled every day!

Pools - The pool area was lovely, plenty of sunbeds - we werent down there at the crack of dawn to reserve them, we usually were able to find enough sunbeds for us all. The kids pool was very safe & warm - in fact all the pools were really warm (the one with the swim up bar is a little cooler but I would definately not say they are cold!!) All are very clean and there is waitress service round the pool. Thanks to Florida for being so smiley. The Fruit station was really good too, fresh fruit and veg served by a lovely lady (think she was called Adele?)

Beach - The beach is lovely. Clean white sand and warm blue waters! There is seaweed on the beach, however there was not a lot of it while we were there and it is cleaned up twice a day - if you really dont like seaweed, just walk 5 mins up the beach and you will find clearer areas! The Watersports centre is good, Hobie cats and kayaks are fun and you get 1 hours use on each activity every day.

Food - I cant fault the quality or variety of the food here Or the staff working here - especially Tony Montana and Wilkin who made us feel so welcome, gave us such a good laugh and really went out of their way for us! These guys definately deserve some recognition!! In all of the restaurants cleanliness is definately something taken very seriously, you cant enter them unless you have some anti bacterial gel on your hands first! The World Cafe has a huge selection of all types of food from pizza and pasta to lobster and steak! Kids selection is similar every day but there is plenty of foods to chose from, we did have a couple of picky eaters with us but we all found something we liked. We tried the seafood grill (we went back for our wedding meal) really really nice with a lovely view of the beach while eating dinner! Great service and great food! The Asian restaurant was great fun - make sure you get a table where they cook in front of you with really nice food, The French (adults only) restaurant was also really nice, i definately recommend the surf and turf! I personally didnt try the italian but some of our group did and said it was very good! The Beach BBQ was gorgeous, some of the nicest burgers I have ever tasted! None of our party had any illness relating to the food (we regularly ate 'danger foods' seafood such as lobster, prawns and mussels)

Entertainment and Bars - The cocktails at ALL of the bars were lovely - especially the Rum Punch!, the 'Dominican Champagne' was gorgeous - i miss it so much!! Great choice of spirits (named brands like malibu and Jack daniels were all included too). There was a lot to do during the day, water polo, aerobics, morning walks etc The evening shows at the theatre were ok, we didnt really go to many of them and they did seem to be repeated once or twice, but they can be good fun - the kids like them. The beach party was good!
The casino was also pretty good (some of our party won a fair bit of money) and the waitress service was very good - all drinks have to be in plastic glasses but this wasnt a problem! The Club was good fun the couple of times we went in, it wasnt very busy any time we were there!

The wedding - Obviously i thought it was amazing but seriously, Johanna Rivera our wedding co-ordinator was amazing, so helpful and went our of her way to help sort everything out when it rained on our wedding day (seriously we were there for 2 weeks and my wedding day the first day it rained!!). The flowers were fresh and well presented, the centrepiece was beautiful! Our wedding cake was beautiful and huge!!

Trips - The trips were a little more expensive that advertised with our travel agent, but there was a large variety of things to do - between the group we did the outback safari (Franklin was the BEST tour guide!), Treasures of the Sea (with our fab rep JC), Shopping tour (a little rushed in my opinion), Saona Island (2 and a half hour bus ride, catamaran ride, a couple of hours on saona island then speedboat ride back with a swim stop - A nice day out but not quite the desert island i was expecting, dolphin swim (amazing), Zip Wires (very good) and the Helicopter Tour (expensive but worth it)

All in all I can honestly say this was a perfect location for our wedding and holiday. We would all go back in a heartbeat. It was an amazing place with super friendly staff! Dont pay attention to any of the bad reviews - some people just like to complain! Everyone we spoke to in the resort was very impressed and numerous people are planning a return trip. go and have a great time!!
