Spent 2 wks at the Bavaro, The resort was so beautiful but large. We were upgraded to a junior suite villa by the beach, and although the suite was great, the mini bar was broken, our patio door lock was broken (which they fixed promptly) and on the 5th day, the hair dryer conked out. As well, we had trouble with our door keys. We went to the front desk and spoke with Anna at reception (she was absolutely wonderful), the mini bar was repaired, but none of the other issues, She contacted the supervisor (Luis) who was so kind. He upgraded us to the Romance Suite, and it was out of this world. The food at this resort is great. Do not like the towel games (had our towels tossed twice) That would be one thing they have to improve on. A lot of europeans who seem to think they own the resort. Very arogant and rude. The resort is huge, but there is a train that takes you around. We had no problem with the walking. It was our 40th anniversary, and the upgraded room made our trip. Thanks to Luis and his kindness, Anna at reception for being so attentive right from the start, Francisca in the buffet and beach bar restaurant.

Room Tip: Villas 59 - 61 are great locations...close to beach and are located in an area that is more quiet.

Generally a very high standard of hotel. Would definetly recommened.
Good Points - spotless clean everywhere, amazing food with a very extensive selection, good bar and restuarant staff and beautifully well kept grounds. Our room was lovely with nice touches such as dressing gowns and welcome rum and fruit and jacuzzi and excellent shower. A la carte restaurants good, with unlimited vists, we especailly enjoyed Brazilian and the Steakhouse. Hemmingways cocktail bar in particular was very welcoming and relaxing. The evening entertainment was good for hotel entertainment, the circus show being the best we saw.

Bad Points -
When we arrived took a long while to check in, inefficent staff who were all serving everyone at once and didn't really seem to know what they were doing and not have a grasp of English. Then had to wait further for a bell boy to take us to our room, as they also seemed badly organised. This really spoiled our first impression of what was otherwise a very good hotel. The front desk in general really let things down compared with the other staff who were excellent. They also misprogrammed our keys, so they stopped working the day before we left and we had to trek up to reception to sort this out.
The nightclub had a very odd smell and was soo loud your whole body vibrated and due to this was empty which was a shame. We would have made more use of this if it had been a reasonable volume.

Other points -
the weather wasn't great, two full days of rain in a week.
We travelled with Thomson / First choice and the service from them on the flight was excellent and cheerful, with good food and entertainment and not bad leg room.
The holiday advisor in the resort, Raphael, was outstanding, even waited at the airport until everyone had checked in.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel, just a shame the first impression prevented me from giving what would otherwise be a five star review.

Room Tip: email specific request in advance - we asked for a king size bed neat the beach and that what we got

We spent 2 weeks at the Bavaro from 15th March (should have been 14th but Thomsons plane broke down and we spent the night at the Hilton, Gatwick). The whole complex was amazing, very large and we did not get to see all of it. The buffet restaraurants were very good with an excellent selection of delicious food, something for all. The a la carte restaurants were always full and the secret to getting a table was to get there at 7pm and go off and have a drink for about 30 minutes. Our favourites were the steak house, the Asian and the mare del nostrum. Our room had a jacuzzi in the middle of it so we asked to change to having a private bathroom, this was not received with much enthusiasm and we were told that we would have to down grade!!! We went to look at the room offered, and found it to be exactly the same but smaller, still with the jacuzzi. So we stayed put. The room was cleaned to a high standard, but a private bathroom would have been better. We were in 70's section and this was a 1 minute walk to the beach and was ideal for us. People we met were in the 10's and had a junior suite with private bathroom which was also near the beach. The beach was beautiful but getting sunbeds was a problem if you did not get there before 8am, the same with the pools, all sunbeds taken by 8am. All the staff were friendly, with a "hola" when they walked past you. Even though this resort is massive, we never felt that it was overcrowded. The only little problem for us was the rowdiness of the Canadians, whooping and hollering all the time whilst waiting for a table in the a la carte restaurants, as if they were at an ice hockey match. I thought it was only English people who were rowdy!!!! I would go back again but would make sure we had a different type of room.

Room Tip: If you don't want a jacuzzi in the middle of the room, ask for a junior suite.

We spent 2 weeks at the Grand Palladium Bavaro Resort from 13th March and loved every minute of it. We emailed the hotel a few days before and politely requested a room by the beach and got one. Thank you! The room was large and spotlessly clean thanks to Julianna our maid. We spent most of our time on the beach, which was stunning. No problem getting sunbeds. The food was excellent. We ate in all the a la cartes and enjoyed them all apart from the Mexican, but that's just our opinion. We didn't book for any of them, we just turned up about 7.30 - 8.00 and sometimes had to wait but sometimes got in straight away. We were given a pager and they buzzed us when a table was available. The longest we waited was about an hour but we were in the bar having a couple of drinks so we didn't mind. Drinks were good especially in Hemmingways bar. I've read previous reviewers saying that the staff were unfriendly but we didn't really find that. Maybe because we smiled and were friendly towards them, they treated us the same. This is the second Grand Palladium resort we've stayed in, the first being in Riviera Maya, Mexico, and we've been impressed with them both. We would definately recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Our room was in villa 30 and it was very nice, right by the beach.

Shame on us for doing a late review, but here we go......

We stayed at this resort February 4th to February 18th, 2012. This was our second time here and found it to be as lovely as our first time. Our main reason for returning to this resort was due to the fact that you could access all bars, theaters and restaurants throughout the three Palladium resorts and the live bands and entertainment in the three lobbies. Hemmingway's is a wonderful, relaxing retreat, serving premium drinks in a very classy atmosphere.

We had booked the romance suite, which has an outdoor "Mayan shower". This was amazing and with the ocean front view made it even better. We always had fresh sheets, towels and face cloths and our mini bar was always stocked daily. In the evenings, upon our return to the room our bed had been turned down with fresh flower petals on the pillows, which was a very romantic touch.

They have made some improvements to the Punta Cana section since our last visit, i.e. two new a la carte restaurants (Italian and steakhouse), which unfortunately opened after we left, but looked to be very modern and inviting. They have also built a new kids club and pool play area, designed specifically for children.

The food was very good in all of the a la carte restaurants, our favourite being the Italian and Spanish. The Japanese tapanaki was one of the best we have experienced in our many travels.

We did experience a couple of issues with our door keys and the safe, but they were corrected promptly. The staff was wonderful and would like to personally thank Wilkin and Orlando for all that they did to make our vacation memorable.

We would definitely recommend this resort to all and plan on returning in the very near future.

the wife and i had visited the dominican republic 5 times prior to this holiday. riu bachata-bahia maimon, dreams la romana-bayahibe,natura park-punta cana, occidental grand flamenco-bavaro(next dood to the palladium)and the bluebay villas-playa dorada, each time we had great holidays and this time it got even better with this hotel exceeding our expectations.(a big thank you to first choice and thomsons hull).upon arrival at the reception we were greeted by a waitress with ice cold fruit punches and a bell boy with cold flanels to cool us down."just the job"reception is large and spacious and at all times was kept immaculate.check in was a simple operation taking only a few minutes.now for the good points,a digital safety deposit box comes free of charge with your room unlike other hotels $50 saved for starters for a 2 week stay.so off we went with the bell boy(nice guy)who proceeded to push 1 case and pull the other, this looked a little awkward but he would have none of me touching them, our room was in villa 1 ground floor number 1013,very close to reception and main buffet approx 300 yards from the beach.once inside the room he gave us the grand tour explaining how the electrics worked, air conditioning,tv,ipod, coffe maker, iron and ironing board and showed us the complementary slippers and bath robes,he was great well worth the mandatory $1 bill tip for each case.food here was A1 with plenty of choice at the main buffet morning and night.lunch is served at the arrecife restaurant near the beach open from noon until about 330pm.if you want a drink or something to eat at any time the sports bar situated opposite the main entrance to reception and is open 24/7.it is also nice and cool in there.now for a la carte-between the 3 establishments that are available for guests to use, grand palladium bavaro, grand palladium punta cana and the grand palladium palace there must be about 10 of them,i can only vouch for the steak house, the brazilian, the bamboo oriental and the spanish, all of which were excellent.this hotel does not require reservations for its a la cartes just turn up at the one of your choice,i would advise 7pm as they are very popular,if a table is not available upon arrival you will be given a pager which lights up and vibrates as soon as they have a table for you, this allows you to have a drink or a stroll about until your table is ready.i think it gives you about 20 minutes to arrive back once it is activated(great idea).all eateries throughout the complex are non smoking and so are the theatres.now where ? ah yes transport.there are 2 trains a red one and a green one that run a constant circuit around the complex, the pick up points are all receptions, theatres, and shelters along the road side.if you need to be at a specific venue but are not sure where it is just let the driver know where you want to be and he will ring the bell for you upon arrival.it can take up to 20 minutes to do the full circuit.if you choose not to wait for the train or miss it just ask one of the bell boys who drive the white club cars to take you, just work him a couple of dollars or a few pesos and he will be more than happy to oblige.the club cars can also be flagged down at any point.next up the beach, you will not have a problem obtaining a sun bed up to 9am but if you prefer a canopy be early,630am it does get quite crowded down there.the sea is warm and clear but very little in the way of fish life there.the sand is very soft and powdery, food and drinks also available here at various spots.to the right as you come onto the beach about half a mile down is a market where you can barta with the locals to your hearts content,if you see something you fancy ask them how much then bid them, dont be affraid to bid hard they love it.the pool although not as large as some hotels is very well kept and a great venue with swim up bar.once again if you want a canopy 6am is the deadline here.most daytime activities take place here with the animation team doing a fantastic job getting people involved and making it a happy little spot.the bar staff are extremly friendly just like all the bars on this complex, waiters or waitresses are constantly walking round taking orders for drinks this aslo applies to the theatres, you never need to get off your bum to go for a drink if you feel that way out,the service is faultless.try the hemmingway bar for a refreshing cocktail and little piano music its nice, you can sit inside or out.now for a few quickies, cock roaches, never saw one in 2 weeks, ants yes a few outside but never saw one in the room, mosquitos yes do not go without a good repelant, one with at least 7%deet is advisable take it with you as it is about $16 a throw in the shops here.try to avoid sitting on your balcony before true daylight breaks and another little tip-keep the plugs in place in your bathroom at all times as sink holes are a point of entry for them.well i reckon its time now for the dreaded red, white and blue table top sellers who pester, badger, hound you,and in general make it a ordeal getting to the buffet on a night blocking off every available escape route possible."yes they were there"most nights, but to my delight this hotel seems to adopt a policy of only one table at a time which was easily avoidable it was situated near the buffet but to be quite honest with it being the only one it was quite busy and they never seemed to have the time to bother us.i cant sign off without a mention of the superbly kept grounds due to the tireless hard work of the gardeners.check out the woodpeckers on the palms between the pool and hemmingways bar.now go and enjoy the delights of this fantastic venue adios !!!

I needed a week to absorb the vacation and after looking back on the whole experience and vacation if I wasn't with family, this vacation would of been a disaster!!! We were 4 families traveling with a total of 6 kids under the age of 10. From the moment we arrived and landed in Punta Cana till when we boarded the plane to leave it was one thing wrong after another. We booked packages from our travel agent and trusted her enough to get us the best value and accommodations as possible because we were traveling with young kids and selling the "Imperial Club Distinction Package" to us, we thought was a good start and would be helpful was a joke!! What does it mean? Absolutely nothing!!! No special treatment, no perks, not a damn thing. You pay the extra 150-200 per person and receive a very uncomfortable BLOW UP neck pillow on the plane no special "express" check in line as she told us, no special pick up location as mentioned....we had to search through rows of shuttle buses to find the one with the small window sign that said "Grand Palladium" on it. When we arrived at the resort, it was a mad scramble to get to the front desk to check in with all the guests. No line or anything. Just walk up to whoever is available and hope the next group doesn't beat you to the counter. So as my wife stayed with the bags, cause these Dominican's are pushy and grabby, you need to keep and eye on your belongings, 4 of us went to the front desk to check in. It is now 3:15pm , its hot, and 6 kids are excited to get to the pool and beach and swim, we are informed that our rooms are not ready. Not only are they not ready as they should of been, they were not together, as we requested when we booked this vacation in November 2011, and 1 family was 4 buildings back and not in same building. And not to mention we were no where near beach front as we were told we would be. So, he we are waiting and waiting and waiting till finally 9pm rolls around and our rooms were ready. We watched as bus load after bus load arrived and received rooms and we still waited cause our rooms weren't ready. Not to mention that the jacuzzi jets didn't work in 1 room, remote control didn't work in one room, A/C didn't turn off in 1 room, A/C wouldn't stay on in another room, fridge not working in a room. So all these faults immediately reported to the front desk the next morning and everyday for a week. Of all the complaints, the remote was finally replaced 3 days later. Nothing else was done. Booking a la cartes as "guaranteed" by our package? Another complete joke as nothing is available if you don't call before you get to the resort. Unless you want to eat at 1030pm every evening, I suggest you just show up early to the a la cartes and hope you get a seat.

As for activities offered by the tour companies there, again, do your homework...some are good and some are a complete rip off and if you don't speak spanish.....GOOD LUCK.

Needless to say, there are lots of terrible things I could say about this resort but frankly don't have the time and patients to list everything. These things I ranted about was only a tip of the iceberg and it can be strongly suggested to do your homework when booking and don't get sucked in by travel agents and tour companies.

WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO THIS RESORT!!!!!
