“Tropical gardens gorgeous; food boring”
Reviewed 13 April 2012

The villas gave privacy, scattered as they are around the gorgeous grounds. I never felt like I was on vacation with hundreds of others UNTIL meal times. Maybe it just isn't for me, as this was my first "all-inclusive" trip. The architecture was beautiful throughout, all very clean, staff friendly. But I just got tired of the huge crowds at breakfast, lunch and dinner. I wanted some quieter space. The small restaurants provided some of that, as did the outside courtyard of the "sports bar" where very few people wandered.

The beach and the POP crew were fun or restful, whatever you wanted. Surf & sun....perfect! Yoga or dancing on the beach allowed for meeting the international guests. We were one of a very few American couples. I liked that....you may not. But the speedos are worth the trip!!!!!

Room Tip: Numbers 47, 49, 51 are equidistant from pool, beach and main lobby.

We booked our week trip to Punta Cana with two other couples through Apple vacations. We had a great time. The pool bar was our favorite gathering place, even in the rain. The beach is beautiful and the surf is enough to be fun without being scary. The beach and grounds are very clean.

The staff tries very hard to make you happy. Many of the staff members speak limited English, but we were able to make ourselves understood.

Most of the food is good, but not great. We enjoyed the beach restaurant more than the buffet restaurant near the lobby. We recommend eating the "made to order" items from the buffets like omelets, pasta, crepes and grilled items. The a la carte restaurants in the Grand Palladium Punta Cana (which are included with a stay at the Bavaro) were more enjoyable than the nearby a la carte restaurants. The steak house was excellent as was the hibachi restaurant. We loved the open air lobby and restaurants.

Our room was spotless and made up at least twice each day. Every evening there were flowers on the bed. There was occasionally had a slight unpleasant odor. We couldn't figure out what it was, maybe just a musty smell from being in the tropics. It didn't bother us after a few minutes in the room.

Where to begin...
We traveled as a group, 28 in total, we booked Transat imperial club. We were served complimentary champagne on the flight as well as given coupons in our travel package for 2 free drinks on the plane, free headphones and 10% off on board duty free We arrived in Punta Cana, that airport is crazy to say the least, but once we got our luggage we found that Transat has a special sign for our group, and a private shuttle waiting to take us to the hotel. Upon arriving at the resort we were greeted by the staff with drinks and a cold towel, they had a private check in area set up for our group, they made such a fuss over us and Anna checked us in and was overjoyed to be the one checking in the bride and groom.

Rooms
We were brought to our room in a golf cart, we were shown all the amenities of our room. Our room was perfect Villa 29 ocean front, and upgraded to the romance suit. The room was beautiful, cleaned daily, fridge restocked daily and our bed was decorated every night with flowers. Our only issue in our room was that the battery died 5 times in two weeks, the battery was "changed" the same day, but it was annoying as we had to carry around all our belonging from the safe while we waited for it to be changed. For the most part all of our group was happy with their rooms, some did not get exactly what they requested, for example, requested a king size bed but got two doubles, they just pushed the two beds together and that was that. You definitely want to make sure you get a renovated room, they are much nicer.

Buffet and A La Carte
We mainly ate at the buffet, there was a different theme each night and so many options to choose from, the food was excellent. We also ate at some of the A la carte, Brazillian, mexican and the steakhouse, if you are waiting at the door at 6:30 they seat you right away, any later you will wait and if you want to make a reservation, they will only book it later on. No complaints, there are so many people and everyone wants/needs to eat. We did not go to the Japanese or the Italian but we were told both were excellent.

Beaches and Pools
We had absolutely no problems finding loungers at either locations, the pool area is HOT be prepared to jump in the pool often to cool off. The entertainment at the pool starts at 3pm everyday, if you don't want to participate, pretend your sleeping lol. When you visit the pool say HI to Kenny and Teddy Boar, they will hook you up with great deals on excursions, we booked zip lining and deep sea fishing, others in our group booked surfing, prices were much lower then booking with Transat.
The beach is beautiful, the breeze makes it much more comfortable. We visited both equally.

The Wedding
First off, the entire staff made our day absolutely perfect. Carolina and her staff met with us the first day and we finalized all the details in less then an hour. We could not decide on the meal for the wedding dinner, she arranged for a tasting, even the table for this had been decorated for us. We had originally wanted to be married on the beach, but after seeing the other options, we chose the gazeebo at the palace, it faces the ocean but is more private. Carolina arranged all the transportation for the guests, and had a golf cart sent to our room to pick me up with my parents and bridal party. We paid for the trio, well worth it, the guests really enjoyed the entertainment as they waited for the ceremony to begin and they played the music from our CD for the procession. The ceremony was about 10 minutes, champagne was served and then we proceeded to do pictures, their were so many beautiful locations to choose from, we could of taken pictures for hours. The group met up at hemmingways for cocktails, then had a semi private dinner at the spanish restaurant. We had planned for a beach party however it rained, this was the only downfall there wasn't any other options for us and we were unable to have a reception. It was still a great day and everything was perfect. Hopefully in the future they will offer other options for those who do not want to pay for a private reception (it doesn't really make sense to pay for dinner and alcohol at an all inclusive resort).

All in all, I highly recommend this resort, the grounds are beautiful, the food is delicious and the staff were ALL amazing. We are planning on returning for our 1 year wedding anniversary!!

We are young $) year old couple that went for our honeymoon. We got the Romance Suite with Garden View which is close to beach. First off what we liked...loved the room due to an outdoor room when we could take a shower outdoors and use our hammock, loved the beaches (they keep them up well), some of the bartenders and staff are great where others are not and would care less. We were told that if you got upset and raised your voice to any staff they would just laugh at you. Our check out was easy and correct and one of our excursions, the one to the zip lines, was awesome.
Now the bad, as stated below our room was not ready by three, nor did we get any of the a entities stated in our package till three days later and it was not a fruit basket, it was a plate of u der ripe fruit cut up on plate and a small bottle of rum. maid service would walk in anytime..while your in bed, in bathroom, naked...didn't matter and this is after I brought it up to staff. You have at least 4 different people coming into your room all different hours (housekeeping staff, people restocking mini bar, turn down service, towel service). No one showed me how to work anything in room and it took two days before we figured out you had to put one of your room keys in a slot and leave it there for air to work. The restaurants were decent but we couldn't figure out what was or off limits to eat at. The lagostino dinner for two for $70 was awesome and included a bottle of wine...this is extra and not included. If you are seafood lover you will be very disappointed. All and all we had fun but won't be back. I hope the three two inch cockroaches we found in our room won't miss us 2 much. Hope this helps as this was just our experience.

I have been in many Caribbean resorts and this hotel compared very well with past holidays and I would recommend it. I spent 2 weeks at the end of March, travelling from Montreal With Air Transat all inclusive. No surprise and exactly as advertised.
The property is really a beautiful tropical park with well separated 2 floors and 8 rooms handsome buildings. We were in Building 52 close to the pool and halfway between the restaurants and the beach. Good location, quiet and close to everything with lovely views. Our junior suite was well appointed and the separate bathroom with a spa quite nice , especially because we also had great room service with a fridge replenished daily and bed turn down service with flowers everyday.
It was nice to be close to the pool for an early start at reserving chairs under the palm trees on our way to breakfast. The beach is beautiful, white sand, plenty of chairs anytime of the day , a lot of shade if you want it and clean protected swimming area. Wonderful to take a long walk. We had a daily 2 hour walk at sunset. The sea is quite wavy, ok to play around but not great for serious swimming. Do not expect to snorkel there. The closest rocky area is 500 yard away and is really a barrier coral reef too rough to tangle with.
The pools are nice and clean . Depending which one of the three properties you are on. it is different but you are allowed to go to any of them. Kids seem to like the Punta Cana property pool better as it is geared to them and is close to the mini club.
There is a great variety of restaurants available on the 3 properties. We tried several of them but we settled on the Cathedral buffer for supper and the Arecife buffet by the beach for lunch. We found that with the great variety and styles of food available, it was always easy to compose a very satisfactory personal menu ( we were 4 adults with different tastes in food). It certainly seemed to satisfy kids too. We also found the staff in these restaurants very helpful and friendly. We also enjoyed trying out our Spanish on them and they really appreciated the effort. This was part of the experience that we enjoyed. We also tried some "a la carte" restaurants, but we did not enjoy them with their restricted menus which were not as typical of their advertised theme, their maitre D were unfriendly and some of the staff not at all as client-friendly as in the buffets. This is my only negative comment about our holiday.
Drinks (coffee, fruit juices, beer and rum drinks) are always available somewhere, they even come to see you on your chairs to offer to get you some any time of the day. At night the Hemingway bar serves some better quality and variety of drinks. In the restaurant, you can get beer and wine, ordinary but OK especially if you had a before meal drink by the pool.
Management was responsive to request for repairs. We had two minor problems which were fixed immediately.
We attended only a few shows but we found them usually way too noisy and we preferred going for walks on this beautiful very large property which is enclosed and feels quite secure. Also you could always have some food or drink anywhere and anytime after figuring out the layout of the place.
Nighttime was very quiet in our buildings and we had a good rest on pretty good double beds. Air conditioning worked well but not very cold,. We kept our room at 22.5C(73F) without any problem and it stayed turned on 24h/day although all power is shut down when you take your electronic key out of the inside reader on your way out.
We had a few mosquitoes but nothing to worry about especially since the staff is concerned about it and spray your room and the bushes as needed.
We took malaria pills and cholera vaccine as recommended by Canadian health authorities bur it certainly was not necessary on this property.
They provide all the bottled water that you will ever need and disinfect each guest's hands when entering the restaurants. Good hygiene is the rule..
Reception areas provide for meeting places, a bar and Internet access with several PCs and WIFI. The only problem seems that the internet speed is not always what we are used too and sometimes the outside links are down or overloaded, which I think is due to a general island overload in the tourist area.
Adding to the tropical park feeling, we also regularly visited the tropical pools close to the reception with their tropical birds, fish and turtles

Room Tip: We liked our junior suite in building 52 second floor pool side . well located half way between beac...

My boyfriend and I just returned from this great resort. We are 23 & travelled as a couple.
We had an early flight so we arrived at the hotel around 1pm.. Were told we would have to wait til 3 to get our room ( as we expected is regular check in time). So we left our luggage in the lobby - no worries with that, there were always bell- hops watching, and toured some of the resort. First impression was great. The grounds were beautiful - the beach was fantastic.
When we received our room we were stunned. It was huge! Couch- king size bed- seperate bathroom with shower- jacuzzi tub - double vanity. Loved it! I should mention we flew with Air Transat & had the imperial deluxe upgrade. Upon being in the room for half an hour a staff member showed up with a fruit plate & a bottle of rum. Perfect.

I could write about the highlights of our trip forever but ill just sum it up :
- We found ALL the staff to be super friendly - Especially Jimanez @ the front desk
- The food was great! We ate mostly @ the buffet but also at the chinese & the italian a la cartes. Im a picky eater & there was always tons of choices everywhere - definatly the best food Ive eaten @ any resort.
- The grounds, the beach everything was so well maintained it was really gorgeous.
- Our room was always clean & mini bar was stocked daily + little extras in the room everyday from our maid - (Rosa)
- The nightly entertainment was pretty good. Were 23 so we like to have a few drinks at night- mostly would just have a few drinks @ the Hemingway bar (premium brands) - watch the nightly show- then hang in the lobby. Went to the disco once - it was fun.
- Also I should add- we spent every day pretty much from 10- 3:30 on the beach - yes there are ppl from the resort & others trying to sell you things- we found most of them to be wonderful ppl. Didnt bother us at all. We were there to relax but understand these guys are just trying to make a living so were not going to be rude to them. Never bought anything thru them but had many pleasant & hilarious convos everyday.
- We liked that we had access to all the amenities to the Palladium Palace & Punta Cana. Other then taking a walk through, a train ride & having a dinner there, We found that the Bavaro section was big enough & had everything we wanted.

Overall, we had an amazing vacation- we stayed @ the Grand Paradise Bavaro in Punta Cana last year & found it didnt even come close to comparison. Would definatly return back!

Room Tip: We had room # 1094. We think it was villa #9. It was in the perfect spot. Middle of the resort. Cl...

Let me start by saying that my wife and I are in our early 40’s and vacation quite a bit particularly throughout the Caribbean. We do not consider ourselves high maintenance but felt we should offer our experience for future travelers to this location.

When we booked our vacation through Air Transat and purchased the Imperial Suites Bavaro upgrade package with King size bed, separate check-in, bottle of rum, fruit basket, beach towels in room, guaranteed location etc. we expected to receive it without issue.

Upon arrival we were told that our room would not be ready until 3pm which was no problem; we went to bar and ordered a drink. We then went back at 3pm and were told one hour, still not an issue. After one hour and were given a room. When we got in our room we received none of the above upgrade. We then went back to the lobby and were told that this was the room we booked. We then had to actually take out our itinerary and show it to prove what we had purchased. We had the distinct impression that they understood this from the beginning and tried to down grade us hoping we wouldn’t complain. We were then again told to come back in one hour. After leaving a $20.00 tip (mistake and didn’t make a difference) we were then taken to another room and again received none of the above. At this point it was 6pm, the room wasn't bad and we were tired of the “take it or leave attitude” and decided to deal with it.

In all our travels we have never experienced such a poor, negative, “I just don't care” attitude upon arrival. Also be aware that you will constantly be harassed on the beach to purchase photos and various excursions throughout your entire stay from the staff.

On a positive note the staff in all other areas were very pleasant, friendly, hardworking and overall beautiful people. Our room was always clean, the food was great, the grounds were beautiful, and the beach and water were beautiful and clear. Also just an fyi. If you like to snorkel you will have to pay for an excursion because there are no fish to see directly from the beach.

We purposely booked this resort because of our wonderful experience at the Grand Palladium Resort in Mayan Riviera, Mexico and would highly recommend that resort and will return someday. We will not be returning to Grand Palladium Bavaro.

Room Tip: Unfortunately you have to be aggressive to get the room you paid for.
