We were at The GPPC end of Jan. Bit of a rainy week, still lots of sun.. 3 other couples went with us.. We stayed in the 3000 and 4000 buildings near beach, pool and the lobby.
Rooms were clean, nothing fancy, with a jet tub in room... bed and pillows were low end.
T.V had lots of english channels, Lots of hot water with good pressure on ground floors.
We spent most of our time at the pool near the beach, Jerry and Betty from the pool bar took good care of us.... It was a little to windy for the beach.
The breakfast buffet was good, getting a cup of coffee some mornings was a task, lunch buffet had large variety, little grill on beach had great little lunch menus. We eat at a la carte restaurant every night.. there were all good.
Drinks were very inconsistent, The piano bar, Hemmingway Bar which was a quite bar with premium drinks, a nice way to end the evening. But was a walk and a half from our area, as was the disco and 24 hour sports bar( great pizza and ice cream), But you could always get a ride on the 8 seater golf cart or the train.
It is a nice, clean well landscaped resort.. just a bite big.. Would I go back..Sure I would.

Room Tip: 2000, 3000 OR 4000 building close to everything

This hotel is not a five star... Four hotels on one complex to VAST! we had to queue every day to make a reservation for a table for evening meal queued 45mins and then was told table for that time was unavailable had to have a later reservation!! Dissapointed!
We then went to the other restauraunt and whilst was told by reception we have priority as we flew with Thomson to not have to wait for table we were then told by the restauraunt we have to wait 45min fro a table! Rubbish again!!!!
Staff rude and have attitude! Rooms are based on 3 star... need refurbing.
Jacuzzi not clean..... old and unhygenic.
We were bitten all over legs and arms, whilst asleep.
Overall food was good.
Do not fall for time share mclarky...form hotel staff.

It began with a not so good check in, rooms were not ready. We waited till at least 4:30. I must say Dave our Sunquest rep worked his butt off to try and get them as quick as possible. The hotel is lacking in 5 star decor and needs much updating. There is nothing grand about it as expected in a 5 star, but the service and housekeeping was great! Our room was okay again, needing updating( block 75), but clean, water pressure was great. Food services were good in buffet, we went to only a few a la cartes and they were good too. Pools were clean. Construction at the pool by the beach, there is no food services or washrooms by the beach which was the biggest dissapointment for us since we like to hang out at the beach. Seemed to me to be a very quiet resort, we are used to music playing everywhere we go, all day, but not so much here. All in all for what we paid it was a good holiday and once construction is done we would go back.

We stayed at the Grand Palladium Punta Cana the third week of January. This was our fifth visit to a resort, and we have to rate this resort as just ok. The resort is starting to show its age, and overall we felt the service was not quite up to par with other places we have visited. The resort is part of a larger complex of four resorts (Bavaro, Punta Cana, Palace and Royal Suites).

Upon arrival, a gentleman at the front desk greeted us, and quickly found our paperwork. On our behalf, our travel agent had requested that we get a room on the top floor of building 2000, 3000 or 4000, but we were assigned a ground floor room in building 65 (about as far from the beach as you can be), i.e., there appears to be little value in making a room request ahead of time. When we asked to be given a different room, we were referred to another gentleman, who we assumed was a manager.

The manager asked if he could help us, and then proceeded to collect champagne glasses from the front desk. He then walked away, and talked to various people, while ignoring us. After several minutes, we finally asked if somebody had looked into our request, and another gentlemen offered that he was looking into the matter. The front desk staff really could use some training on customer relations, as we felt we had been completely ignored. Finally, we were offered a second (top) floor room in building 66.

The room was ok. The resort has an odd system of pillows – a very small, thin pillow is standard, but one can pay $4 per night extra to get a better one. Grand Palladium needs to give its guests a break and give them decent pillows without charge! You may want to consider bringing your own. There is a Jacuzzi tub in the room, but it is small, and really only suitable for one person at a time. Water pressure is weak, and it takes a long time to fill the tub. If you don’t like loud music and activities, ask for a room away from the main pool area – most afternoons, a sound system was cranked to full blast, and we could hear it in our room, even with the balcony doors closed. Few people participated in those afternoon activities, but we were all subjected to the racket (the Palace resort next door also had afternoon activities, but their PA system volume level was set on low for those participating, and not the entire resort). Housekeeping staff did a great job of keeping the room and building clean.

We tried several of the a la carte restaurants, but our favourite place to eat overall was the buffet at the Palace – the food was good and nicely presented, and the staff was enthusiastic, hard working and attentive. We ate most of our breakfasts there, and several dinners. Of the restaurants, the service at the Asian restaurant was the best, and we were treated well and pampered there. The food was also very good. The Brazilian restaurant was also very good, both the food and the service. Mare Nostrum – food was just ok, and the service about the same. Japanese – we would suggest skipping this restaurant if you cannot get a seat at what they call the show tables; otherwise, you will have to put up with a lot of noise from the show tables, and also be treated like second-class citizens, as the servers concentrate on guests at the show tables. Something we thought odd in several of the food establishments (Japanese, Mare Nostrum, Palace buffet) was waiters making random bird whistle sounds – it was really out of place, and almost childish.

Two evenings we enjoyed music in the lobby by a guitarist by the name of Arturo Fuerte. He was truly outstanding. We also enjoyed a show at the resort called, “Circus,” where we saw juggling, acrobatics, trapeze and rope work, and people doing stunts on long curtains suspended from the ceiling. Those involved were remarkable, and provided the best show we have seen at any resort we have visited.

The beaches at the resort are gorgeous – miles and miles of white sand. At the present time, we would suggest skipping the beaches directly in front of the Punta Cana section of the resort – most of the palapas are in really poor shape, and there is construction noise, as a nearby building is being renovated. We tended to head to the Palace section of the beach. You do have to get there early if you want a palapa, but you should still be able to get a chair until 10 or 11 if you don’t want shade.

Expect to be approached a LOT on the beach by people wanting to sell you something.

Also expect to be subjected to a lot of cigarette smoke. We felt like we were back in the 70s, where smoking was acceptable in most places. Smoking is not permitted in the eating establishments, but is allowed pretty much anywhere else. Frustrating if you are a non-smoker.

Overall, we were glad to have had a chance to spend a week in the sun on a beautiful beach. However, we would likely not return to this resort unless the price was really good, or if there was nothing else available.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, get a room that does not face the main pool area.

Many thanks for this review.

We will take this comments very seriously in order to improve our services.
We are very sorry to not fullfilled this room request. We allways try to satisfy all room requests, however, some times, due to the level ocuppancy of the Hotel it can be difficult. Plase take note that the resort is full of open areas, and is diificult to not allow smoking in this areas. All closed areas of the hotel are Non Smoking places....also Disco and anphiteatres.......

I went in december of 2011. I traded my one bedroom condo timeshare for a TINY room with the bathtub 12" next to my bed!!! Thank heaven's I was by myself because a tub next to the bed, no privacy for the other person. 2 chairs and a tiny table squashed in a corner was my "sitting area". The bed was uncomfortable, food, especially buffet horrible. Most of the people who worked there were hard to communicate to in English. They seemed to cater to there own. The walkways outside and inside the buildings were extremely slippery especially when it rained. I slipped and fell and hit the back of my head and all the manager the next day seemed to care about is if I would join their time share! I had been to Punta Cana before and had a nice time. This place is not a place you want to be. The first night it rained and I came back from dinner to see a girl mopping up water in my room. Bottom floor flooded. Then she left the soaking wet towels by the door "incase it flooded again" instead of getting me more dry towels! Time share people go to a condo!!!

Well, this is an interesting opinion and I respect it, but like this, an a personal oppinion, however I do not think that is a reason to alert to no visit this resort.
If you like caribean experience, you have to be prepared for caribbean weather, dominican friendly staff, that most of them do not speak english(som regular staff, front desk, supervisors, managers..speak good english) , amazing beaches, sun, coconuts...relaxing places.....live the stress away!!!
thanks
