“Dreams Punta Cana”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

We went on a jet-setters weekend. The facilities were top rate. The pool creative and amazing as it wound through the centre of the property that was lush and luxurious. Food was adequate and we did not participate in the a la cartes. Rooms were excellent and spotless. Service was top notch. There was however a one hour drive from the airport which appeared to be going into the country. Finding a lounge chair after 7 a.m. was a challenge. While the hotel asks guest not to put towels or personal items on lounge chairs, it is not enforced, as it would be difficult. Our first day we were not able to get a chair, but did find opportunities to sit by the bars or grills which was near enough to the pool for a period of time.

This hotel was also creative because after lunch there was a fruit stand to get tropical fruit or coconut on a stick. Very tasty and a healthy snack alternative.

The hotel was also very family oriented. If you don't want children around, this is not the place for you. They had a centre for the children with their own pool that was supervised. In one part of the lazy pool there was a floating mountain for the children to play on.

Couldn't swim in the ocean too cold and rough, but the beach was close to the end of the pool and the beach was beautiful.

Concierge was our biggest difficulty as they were trying to get us to go to a new property for an hour. Been on one or two of these and they are never an hour. Due to our plan for relaxation by the pool or beach we opted out. However, every opportunity that the concierge could talk to us they did and they did not take no for an answer even though they knew we had already said no.

For the little time we were on the beach, we did not see any peddlers. Currency accepted was U.S. or Dominican Pestos.

We had a lovely time and would consider returning for a longer stay.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are quiet and fairly private.

My husband and I stayed for our 16th wedding anniversary. The grounds and facilities are nice, not great. Their activities are the same. Nothing that really stands out. The restaurants were good and we made sure to eat at all of them. The buffet was OK. The staff was nice. They worked hard to help us have a good time. It was lack luster for me because we we lacked the freedom to go out on our own in the city. We felt confined to the resort property or just in 'approved' environments. Having spent our previous vacation in St. Thomas where we controlled our own day was refreshing and a hard act to follow.

We went to the local night club and had a good time. We went to the cigar shop and took the tour. Nothing that just really wowed us. So all in all, it was a very average to below average experience. The low point of the trip was when someone's bathtub effectively drained into our room. I don't know what really happened, but on the last night of our trip, water just started pouring into our room through the light sockets. It wet up all of our items in the bathroom and even came into the bedroom. Of course, we were moved to a new room. They were not nearly as apologetic about the inconvenience as I would have liked or expected. With us leaving the next day, all I could do was take it up with management via email. What did they offer us for the inconvenience? A free upgrade if we come stay again. As if!

I would not stay in Punta Cana again and definitely not the Dreams hotel. It was boring.

Our family travelled to this resort for 10 days from feb 4th to the 14th. It was a truly an amazing experience. We have three kids 8,6 and 4. It was by far our favorite vacation. Thanks to the fantastic resort, staff, food and entertainment. I would highly recommend this resort to any family travelling with kids.
The food is excellent and the resort is beautiful. The staff from the maids to servers always have a smile and are always willing to please.
We felt that explorers club staff went above and beyond with our kids and were entertained and the great thing was not only did we feel comfortable leaving the kids with these wonderful ladies they also gave us a phone and called whenever the kids were ready to be with us.
I was a little worried with the reviews that i read prior our departure and really do not understand how anyone could complain about this establishment.
When we book our next vacation it would definltely be through Dreams!!!!
No need to worry if you are traveling to this resort it is like paradise.
|If i had to say one negative it is the people who leave there beach towels on the chairs and think they own the chair for the rest of the day - while elsewhere. if they are gone after a 1/2 hour take the spot for gods sake!!!! Happy travels you will enjoy. We were sad to leave and I am missing the place already

Room Tip: We selected the family deluxe and really liked it.

We stayed at Dreams, Punta Cana Resort from February 10th to February 17th, 2012. We had wanted to check out Punta Cana as we had heard of the amazing white sandy beaches and the beautiful colored calm waters of the ocean - based on what was advertized on the website, we thought this resort would offer that. NOT true! This resort is located on the Atlantic Side and does NOT have the white sandy beaches, and the water was very rough - very sandy looking water and lots of coral- not the clear blue/green water we were expecting.

Food was a-ok - the best meal I had was the last night we were there at World Cafe for their Mediterranian themed buffet- great pasta. Breakfasts were good - great omlettes and lots of variety. The resturants themselves were nothing great at all - barely ate much on the whole vacation. Desserts-not great at all, what they call cheesecake is not what they call a cheesecake here in North America. Portions for the resturants were pretty small for the most part. Pizza was horrible the first few days, no sauce at all, they must have gotten some complaints, because by end of trip, they seemed to be adding a bit more sauce to give the pizza some flavor.

Pool - great pool, it's huge and runs up from one part of the resort basically to the next, so lots of room to swim, lounge.

Entertainment - Was good for the most part

Rooms - standard, on date of arrival they didn't have a king sized bed for us, so we ended up with 2 double beds, we were moved to our requested king sized bed room on night 3 of our stay. The rooms give off a musty smell, the sheets and pillows give off an odd smell - not really any windows execpt the balcony/deck, so hard to circulate good air into the rooms. Turn down service did not happen twice a day for us as advertized, the morning turn down service didn't happen for some days till mid-afternoon. The evening turn down service didn't happen at all on some nights except the maid dropping off some towels. We had so much water on the floors in the bathroom as there was no proper shower glass window, and there were nights we would come back and nothing was mopped up or cleaned up in the bathroom. We had opted for the basic deluxe room, talking to others that had upgraded, we found out that their rooms had nothing different from ours really. All rooms I believe are rennovated.

Location - Not on the side of the island we wanted to be on and no where really to go outside the resort. So didn't get to experience any of the culture of the dominican.

My husband and I travelled to Royal Plantation in Jamaica, Ocho Rios and perhaps we are comparing our stay at that resort to this one- Royals was a true 5 star resort.

There are too many other places in the carribean to check out before we would consider coming back to Dominican. If we did, it would go to the Carribean Island side, where we can actually experience the culture, enjoy the beaches and water that we heard Dominican being famous for, and go to a resort that actually is a 5 star resort. I know I've stated more negatives than positives in the review, overall did we get some sun, relaxation? YES. Would we come back to this resort again to experience that? NO.

This was our first all-inclusive family vacation with our children - ages 7 and 4 - and we cannot say enough wonderful things about this resort! When we booked, we opted for the "preferred club" and I must say that I know it made a difference in the service we received. People that we met on the resort, who did not book under the preferred club, seemed to experience slower response times for service for their rooms etc.. So, if you are going, book the preferred club - it is money well spent! Also, if you do so, you will get to meet Jhonny Pantaleon (concierge for the preferred club) and, honestly he is amazing! He made our trip by continually helping us book things, assisted us with getting our room changed (we wanted something larger and closer to the beach)and he helped my husband order flowers to our room and did all of this with a huge smile! Dreams is lucky to have him as an employee! We are planning to return to Dreams next winter and Jhonny is one of the main reasons we will do so! Thank you Jhonny for making our vacation so memorable!!!

We also truly loved the kids explorer club! Our daughter had a wonderful time meeting new friends and participating in all sorts of fun activities that she is still talking about! At first I was reluctant to leave my children with virtual strangers but, these women are so motherly and fun that I was instantly put at ease. You can tell that they truly love what they do. Also, when you drop off your child, they provide you with a cell phone so, if at any point your child wants to leave, they will call you to pick them up.

The food was quite good with many different options to suit all tastes. The Japanese restauarant was the only one we didn't try primarily b/c they have set seating times and we left it too late in our trip to organize this.

We had an amazing room - we upgraded our room when we arrived to overlook the beach and pool. I will say that the rooms are a bit dated in terms of decor so they could stand with some upgrading.

The ocean is lovely but, this area of Punta Cana is quite windy so the ocean is a bit rough. The wind was actually nice though b/c even though it was in the mid-80's every day, you never got too hot - it was warm but not too intense.

Overall, we had a fabulour time and highly recommend it if you are looking for a good family vacation!

Room Tip: Upgrade to the preferred club - the rooms are larger and more updated. Ask for a room on the west si...
