“AMAZING HONEYMOON DESTINATION”
Reviewed 23 February 2012

We decided on this resort because my husband insisted on a plunge pool. The ride from the airport is long, and kind of scary (although the drivers were SO nice!), but once you're there it is literally paradise! Its a gated resort, so your nerves end once you're there. The grounds are immaculate! No garbage, beautiful landscaping, etc. Unfortunately there was a problem with our room (we booked a beach front with plunge pool but got an upstairs beach front. It was still gorgeous though), but they were happy to correct the problem! The next day we were in a beach front with plunge pool and we were happy as clams! Immediately we felt at home, as the staff always greeted us with a smile and helped us in any way they can. The main pool gets pretty filled up in the early morning, so make sure you go down early to hold a spot. If there aren't spots available, no big deal, theres a ton of spots by the lazy pool. The pool is clean, and there are always fresh beach towels.

Don't even get me started on the food & drinks! The food was out of this world! We ate A LOT and ended up losing weight because it was all natural ingredients! The wine was flowing, mixed drinks were delicious, and every night we went back to our room feeling great! We became friends with Carlos Manual who was unbelievable! He made us custom meals, and always made sure our glass was filled!

The room itself was beautiful. Super clean, and they put fresh fruit and a beautiful bouquet in it, upon your arrival. The ocean front with plunge pool was worth the extra money! We had breakfast every morning on our beautiful patio, as we watched them prepare the grounds for the day. But being that we saw both rooms, the upstairs ocean front was amazing, too! I was sad leaving it after the first night!

I also visited the spa for a pedicure. The woman was SO friendly, but it wasn't a traditional pedicure with jets and a tub. It was just a bowl in which they file and paint your nails. It was enjoyable, but probably not worth the extra money. BUT we also got a couples massage and it was AWESOME. 60min massage.....JUST WHAT WE NEEDED AFTER OUR WEDDING! Professional, relaxing, DEFINITELY worth the extra money!

We took the helicoptor back to the airport. My husband loved it, but I hate flying so I was freaking out. Just a warning, its a SMALL helicopter! If you don't like flying, I suggest you drive. That being said, flying does cut the trip in half, and you get an absolutely beautiful tour of Punta Cana.

Overall rating: AMAZING! DO NOT HESITATE TO BOOK YOUR TRIP! All of the negative reviews are so wrong. We had a wonderful time! We would go back in a heartbeat!

Rooms
We had room # 33 which is a junior suite and a garden view room. The room was well appointed when we got there with full amenities and very clean. We used the balcony quite a bit and didn’t experience bugs.

During the course of our stay, service was definitely lacking. House cleaning does not come to the room three times a day – we had one day where we didn’t have anyone come at all and we called around 9pm to get some clean dry towels and they never materialized.

At one point, the room key did not work and maintenance had to be called in to fix it. The water in the shower pools and doesn’t drain until you are out of the shower. One day we had minimal hot water. With that said, it was a very nice bathroom with ample amenities.

Spa
The spa was lovely, but do not expect to be served tea or cucumber sandwiches or offered water/tea after your treatment. The therapist is also the front desk person. She is juggling two jobs with minimal English. There is no heated masseuse table, no fine linens which one would expect at a 5 star resort, but a table with a sheet on and threadbare towels for you to rest your body on.

The Grounds/Beach/Pool
The landscape is absolutely gorgeous. One can tell that they put a lot of effort into design and maintenance. Every leaf was pruned, everything trimmed and proper. The vegetation was lush.

The Serpentine Pool and the infinity pool looked gorgeous, but we did not use it as we spent most of our time on the beach. We tried to night swim one night and the water was frigid, so backed off on that.

The beach was very nice – definitely not a 5 star beach. There is a lot of seaweed on the beach in front of the property and one person with a wheelbarrow is assigned to remove it. Let’s just say that he never finished in the 4 days that we were there. The water was very nice and warm and not too much waves. If one wanted waves, one just needed to walk a few feet away.

Food
Aaaaw, food!!! This is such a personal topic and I won’t really dwell on it. I thought the food was OK, but I also live in NYC and have access to some of the best foods around. The service in the restaurants was subpar. Almost all orders came wrong and service was extremely slow. They ran out of almost everything, pina colada mix, sparkling water, light beer and when they did bring us what we “ordered,” it was incorrect. We got pizza that did not resemble the reggae pizza we requested, we continuously had to ask for sparkling water, that the table next to us shared their bottle with us because I was parched. Breakfast was a 1 ½ hour affair and that is the minimum. It made me miss the buffet where one can grab a couple of things and head to the beach. They do not let you know if there is a special unless you ask for it, which was a bit annoying.

The fruit selection was disappointing that I wanted to cry – where was the passion fruit, mango, tropical fruits? None to be seen except plums, apples, watermelon and cantaloupe! Where was the local cuisine? None to be had as they catered to a very western palate! That was a huge disappointment.

There was a buffet setup one night that was supposed to be on the beach, but it was in the restaurant instead and that was very good.

Overall, this is a 3.5 star property at best. We went there because of the small boutique feel and got that, but nothing else. It is a charming property and a place to unwind, but don’t expect Four Seasons service. You will meet a lot of people that were bumped to Zoetry from neighboring hotels. I felt a bit cheated since I spent top dollars to stay there.

Room Tip: The rooms on the 2nd floor are best.

we arrived on 02-6 and stayed until 02-13... Last may my husband and i got married. We booked Zoetry as our honeymoon spot but was called the night before our wedding and was told they overbooked and sent us to secrets cap cana instead. We actually got a free trip to zoetry bc of the mishap.

THis was once of the best vacations of my life. The beach is incredicble , clean and no rocks!!.. The staff is amazing... We loved everyone. The resort is so private and beautiful we literally felt like we were in the jungle at times.

THe lobster was my favorite and Amaya by far has the best dinner!

we couldnt have asked for a better trip..

my only complaint was that there are tons of mosiqiotos. I did my research ahead of time.. bought some deep woods off spray.. latehred it on every single night and still got eaten alive.. im still recovering from bites! My husband lucked out and didnt not get one bite.. II guess my blood is very attractive to the buggers! only thing that made my vacation uncomfortable was the mosqiotos but other than that this resort is wonderful..

we are already researching our next trip next winter and have decided to stay at zoetry in mexico . Cannot go wrong with this place.

you will not love it if you are into the party seen.. this is def a very special resort and is intended for those who want nothing but rest and relaxation.. no loud music. ect.

also ... dont pay for beachfront.. pay for a garden room( cheaper ) and if u get the lower level you score by pretty much getting a swim out pool right out of your balcony.. it was awesome!!!

Room Tip: dont pay extra for beachfront.. ask for a lower level room ..garden view.. u pretty much are gaining...

As a 50+ year-old traveller who vacations alone, or sometimes with friends, I recommend Zoetry Agua Punta Cana as an oasis from the "big" resorts. Having stayed at various resorts throughout the Carribean, including Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita in Cancun, I keep returning to Zoetry Agua because of its tranquil atmosphere, outstanding food selections, and impeccable service. Everything Katmatt_12 states in the January 30 review is eloquently written and I need not repeat the information. I can only illustrate the superb quality of personal care the staff at Zoetry Agua extends to their guests.
My recent stay, at the end of January, was a week of perfect weather, food, and accommodations. We spent time enjoying the spa, walking the beach, taking a day trip to Altos de Chavon, and lunching on the slow boat as it meandered down the Rio Chavon. My friend, GS, and I had two oceanfront, ground level rooms. GS uses a cane and had some difficulty stepping up to enter her room. I casually mentioned this to the staff. The next day a new, permanent, wooden step was installed at her door entrance. We had not asked for this. It was just done.
On Friday, the sixth day of our vacation, GS injured her foot as she stepped out of bed. Accidents happen; this was no fault of Zoetry Agua. Edward, a manager, immediately prepared for us to go to the Clinic Assist Grupo Hospiten at a nearby resort. He furnished a wheelchair and escorted us to the front lobby where transportation was waiting. Magali, the front desk manager, accompanied us to the clinic where the medical staff was waiting. After GS's foot was examined, we needed to go to the Hospiten Bavaro Higuey for X-rays and medical treatment. At the hospital we were treated like royalty as GS was tranported into the hospital and rushed into an examining room. The medical staff of doctors and nurses (who mostly speak English) took wonderful care of her as they took X-rays, evaluated her fractured bones, gave her medications, and finally added a cast to her foot. During this time, additional staff from Zoetry Agua arrived to oversee any problems and to provide much needed moral support. What would have probably taken all day at an emergency room in the USA was completed in a few hours. These clinics/hospitals are well prepared for tourists. But be prepared; these hospitals do not take (Anthem) insurance unless you are "admitted into the hospital." Visa or American Express credit cards are needed to pay the bill, and ours was more than $1,000 USD. Thank goodness we had puchased travel insurance with out Worldtek travel agent, so reimbursement should be coming.
Arriving back at Zoetry Agua, our awaiting entourage of managers and staff escorted us back to our rooms, made sure GS was comfortable, left the wheelchair for her to use, took our dinner orders, and were ready to help us in any way.
The next day we were scheduled to leave via private transportation. Zoetry Agua cancelled our van transport and provided a medical helicopter which landed on the beach near our rooms. Edward and additional staff carried GS to the helicopter and we were off to the airport where airport personnel transported us directly to the Delta counter. Our bags had been sent ahead and were waiting for us near the Delta counter. We "breezed" through security and GS was lifted into the rear airplane door using a portable elevator.
This experience illustrates the differences between an excellent resort and a superior resort. Magali, Edward, Alain, and all the staff "go beyond" what is expected... and I cannot thank them enough for their expert assistance, abundant generosity, and genuine compassion. What could have been a tourist nightmare became a memorable experience to be shared with friends and fellow travellers. Thank you so much!

Room Tip: Ocean front, ground level room are cooler.

What an excellent property. The staff and he amenities were beyond expectations. I was quite unsure about the trip when I read some of the reviews on your site. Now I am unsure if these people were actually at Zoetry. The entire experience is a unique vacation that cannot be beat. Thank you Zoetry.

We moved from the Dreams Palm to the Zoetry and arrived on valentines day. From the moment we arrived we were treated amazingly! Juan Carlos (Jean) was great and incredibly helpful and really demonstrated that he loves his job. The resort itself was amazing! The detail with every element was top notch...the food is incredible and nothing is out of reach, no request is impossible. We also loved all the wait staff but my stand outs were Juan Antonio who never was without a smile ever after a seemingly long day, Kenny at the lobby bar and leigha were amazing.
The star of our trip was Anny at concierege! She helped us with all the troubles we had with our vacation carrier and was the sweetest!

If you are looking for relaxation and the best of everything....GO here!

As we arrived through the gates, with a little trepedation, because its an all inclusive, we were led to our ocean front latched roof room. This place was special from the very first steps we got there. The rickety bridge, adding so much character to the place, was the best part and the only way to get to our room, as the waves were crashing loudly on the shore, and the palm trees rustled in the wind, just a few feet away. The vacation began officially down at the beach bar when instantly we were greeted with a big smile by Peter the great bar tender. I felt disooriented from traveling and he knew exactly what I needed, the island speciality,.. Mamajuana. He and everyone else did not stop offering it, with joy, the entire stay. Everyone got a kick out of explaining its origin and the effect it would have on us. The entire staff at Zoetry appeared happy and proud, so it didn't take long to settle right in. A BBQ on the beach on Friday night was great. Cigars of choice, a set up that looked effortless, but was very detailed, a spread with so much variety, including baby lobster tails on the grill, we didn't know what to get next and then we headed back to the beach bar again for the finale. The first test for us on vacation is how quickly we feel "away" from it all. At Zoetry, it was real fast! The room was beautiful and litterally on the beach, which is not always the case at other resorts. The service, while, sun bathing on the beach was a constant and always with a smile. There was no night time entertainment, as the lone musical trio, which occassionally showed up at dinner, was just about all there was. But at this place, no real need for much to do at night, as you feel so cut off and at peace. It's just not what this hotel is all about. Orlando is the main man to ask for if you need a good cigar or a something special. Edward is a solid front desk manager, when you have an issue. I really do believe he cared about my lost eye glasses. The coffee shop is excellent, but we agree with others that it needs some better lighting. Yoga on the beach was just right, And, so was Tatiana, the instructor, who didn't push too hard, but centered me more than I was before I met her. The spa is beautiful, with a nice in door hot tub and make sure you take them up on the free 20 minute massage. Lotions and soaps and showers were top of the line. The biggest downer is the gym. Why in this day and age and at such a nice 5 star boutique resort would there not be better equipment, we have no clue. But, other than that, this is a special treat, if you are a couple that just needs to escape and you don't want the hoopla and grandeur of other resorts. This is no frills, Gilligan's Island style. The biggest activity of the week was watching the chef prepare Paella on the beach for lunch. I can smell the wood burning on that big open fire pit, and the food simmering, while sipping the best sangria in the sun right now. Another little complaint is that it took all week to teach them how to heat the out door hot tub and the out door pools, although beautiful, and smartly designed, could have been a little warmer. Other than that, this little find, is gem. Overall, because of its homey and warm feeling, we dealt with a few inconviences and loved it from that first moment, until we had to say goodbye.

Room Tip: Go beach front...it's worth it! Ask for a deal and take the second floor, it's less money an...
