This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic and we didn't know what to expect. When we first arrived to Bahia Chiquita we were warmly greeted by the owner Roberto. The first thing he told us is "This is your home" with a big, welcoming smile and an open heart! Samana itself was very rustic, the people were very friendly, the food was delicious, the land and the beaches were breathtaking, but what really stuck out to us on this trip was Bahia Chiquita. The wonderful thing is that Roberto knows every part of Samana, and is the absolute best resource for where to go. He told us all of the details, drew detailed maps, and gave us a local's view of this beautiful land. Bahia Chiquita provided the best breakfast each morning, served between the hours of "anytime you wake up" and "when you walk to the kitchen". A very friendly Lucia made us fresh eggs, fresh cut pineapples, papaya, toast, coffee....anything we wanted every morning while gazing over the bay of Samana...it was wonderful to wake up to. Bahia Chiquita provides several affordable excursions of their own which we highly recommend. The excursion that we selected from Bahia Chiquita was to go scuba diving around a local island called Cayo Levantado...it was the absolute best experience for two novice scuba divers. We felt compeltely safe, and it was a very personalized experience that you would definitely not get through one of the larger tour groups. Bahia Chiquita took great care of us on this trip leaving us with beautiful memories for life. We would definitely recommend Bahia Chiquita to anyone searching for a relaxing, stress free experience, and Samana for anyone looking for an activity filled, adventurous get away. Bahia Chiquita is Samana's untouched jewel of the Dominican....

We ended cutting our trip short. The first thing we saw was the beach and from the pictures we thought it would be beautiful. The only truth about the beach is that it isn't swimmable. It's dirty and there is garbage all over. We thought by "not swimmable" because it was dangerous or something along those lines. All it would take would be one whole day of cleaning and then nightly maintenance, I didn't even want to walk on it. We had heard a few great things about the owner and how much he helps in setting up excursions and telling you the best places to eat. But he mentioned to me in an email that he wouldn't be there during our stay. His staff was extemely nice and attentive but could not tell us places to eat or help arrange any kind of excursions. No one spoke a drop of english, thankfully my boyfriend could conversate somewhat. The rooms have no AC and I felt the bathrooms were not very clean and need to be redone, the shower specifically. The rooms are uniquely decorated and the place has the potential to be 4 stars. I was very disappointed overall.

My boyfriend and i stayed at Bahia Chiquita during our vacation to the island in May. It was excellent, the rooms are quite lovely. The grounds are well kept. This is an excellent place if you're looking to spend some quite time and relax. There is a resort about a 5minute walk away, with a restaurant and a bar. This is really the only thing around that is within a walks reach. The host is a lovely man by the name of Robert, he has ground transportation available for a small rental fee. The resort is about half an hour drives from larger town of Samana. We traveled by a local bus company named Caribe Tours from the capital, the total cost for both of us was less than $300 RD. We asked the bus river to leave us at the entrance of the hotel "La Pascuala", Bahia Chiquita was a 5 minute walk from there. Overall, this was a magnificent experience, i will definitely go back.

Useful hint: Robert is expanding his B&B and will be creating 2 more bungalow style rooms which from what we were able to see will have an ocean view .

If you are looking for relax, peace, cleanliness, away from the all inclusive holiday... This is the place. The hotel is far but close to the town Samana you can get there from the hotel by taxi or "motoconcho" (a motorbike for 3) for a very very cheap price. It is only a few steps away from the beach ( not paradise) but you can almost role out of bed and in to the water. The paradise beaches are a drive away but Roberto will organize the trips for you for at a very moderated price( if you want ) if not he will tell you where to go and what to pay, not a penny more not a penny less.
Roberto is the owner of this lovely hotel ( b&b) which offers breakfast on is garden deck with perfect views of the beach. If you have the chance to get to know Roberto , Lele, Lucia and Chari ( they are his helpers) your holiday there will be full of new experiences you will get to know some of the best places around Roberto will also tell you the best places to eat and shop and I can assure you it will be something you will never forget and always want to repeat.
Between you and me I think the real owners of bahia chikita are his two wonderful dogs, Tysson and shu...

Roberto really takes care of you, he can get you nice discount prices for whale tours, waterfall sightseeing, and although we didnt take advantage of it he is also a scuba instructor. There is a great place to eat on the beach just a few steps away as well!

I recommend bringing snacks with you, have lots of small bill pesos as well as american/ euro dollars for excursion purchases. Seeing the waterfall as Limon is a must as well as seeing the humpback whales. (warning, the guides at the water fall will try to get a far too large tip out of you so keep that in mind- really have some smaller pesos as they will not make change)

The only negative is that you may not be happy with the toast and jam breakfast everday- Roberto asked me if we wanted anything else- so take up that offer! Or bring some little bites with you- the view alone is worth it!

We stayed in Bahia Chiquita for 2 nights in December 2010 (1 night in the gorgeous suite room and 1 night in a very nice double room) and enjoyed our stay a lot! Roberto, the Italian owner was very helpful. He is a great storyteller and gives good advice on what places to visited in the region. His Dominican house helper was our driver for a day. He only speaks Spanish but in a way you can manage to understand most of it if you speak a little Spanish, he is very helpful and gave some good explanations on the area. We first went to El Limon waterfall to ride with horses in the green and lush interior of Samana and drove further to Las Terrenas, had a nice stroll and relaxed on playa bonita and continued our journey back through the hills where we had an astonishing view to the seaside of las Terrenas and later a spectacular view to Los Haitises National Park and the Samana Bay. At the end of our trip, our local guide invited us to his home in a poor but very warm neighbourhood where all of his family lived. It was a great experience and are very grateful we were offered the chance to see this side of the Dominican Republic. The breakfast with a very nice view on the bay of Pascualas, was very pleasant. We got nice coffee, tea, delicious jams, fresh fruits and toasts. In the evening we were also invited upstairs where Roberto lives and has is charming office with sea view. We really appreciated the personal service and would recommend a stay at Bahia Chiquita for the lovely very beautiful decorated rooms, the peaceful surroundings, the nice breakfast with great views on the bay and the help of Dominican locals. We had hoped to see some tarantula’s in the garden (saw a death one) but unfortunately these animals are not that numerous and very shy. We were also assisted with the guagua transfers to Samana, only a 10minute ride away. There is a beachfront at the garden which we didn’t use, but from there it is an easy an nice walk along the sea to the end of the bay were many seabirds are active in finding fish. It is not the nicest beach to swim, but for a walk it’s perfect. There is 1 small restaurant at the beach where you can sit for a drink or enjoy a nice meal in the evenings if you prefer not to go to Samana City. We would definitely recommend Bahia Chiquita as a good base to explore some points of interest nearby!

If you are looking for a 5 star all inclusive, all perfect hotel, look elsewhere. Bahia Chiquita is another kind of place. Rooms are clean and spacious, very originally and beautifully decorated, you can have breakfast with a sea view or use the jacuzzi out in the garden.
Yes, lights go out in Samana every now and then and the generator didn´t turn on immediately on one ocasion; yes, bread was rauchy sometimes, but fruit and coffee are great; yes the place doesn´t run like a clock but it´s all compensated the pleasent and funny personality of Roberto (owner) and the beauty of the place. Imagine going to your uncle´s, who happens to live in Samana, who knows the best spots, who can take you scuba diving and who has quite a few stories to tell.
Bottom line, highly recomended.
