Amazing!! That’s the first word come in my mind !! I read some review saying ; "Don't loose all day long to go at 9 miles." I'm sorry but i have no word for describe that trip!!! We start from the hotel Starfish Trelawney and we hired a guide for driving us at 9 miles. IMPORTANT... If you want to have a real feeling of the Jamaican people, don't do that trip with an organised group you going to loose your time. We are 8 people in a minibus and the guide name George. He takes time to explain all the culture and the important thing to know about Jamaica. We pass trough a lot of small town but the hottest place is Brownstown... We stop in the village and walk in the huge fruit market... what an amazing feeling of being in the middle of nowhere and surrounding by merchant who try to make some money for eating !! WOW !! They are really cool and like Jamaican say all the time, NO PROBLEM.

Before arrived at Bob Marley village, don't forget to close all windows because you going to be assault by many people who want to sell you GANGA (Marijuana). If you want some, wait inside and just close to the main entrance, you have a small window, like an ice cream stand, watch out when you open it because i never saw that quantity of ganga. If you want to try, for your information, the ganga is really soft and give the best buzz i never had for a long time. You going to feel great and in the mood.

Benji was the tour guide for us. He is really passionate and he knows a lot about Bob life. Listen carefully if he laugh... i found it really funny!! He sang all the time and explains the meaning of some song. After that, you always have a picture of the place in your mind when you heard a Bob Marley song!! Just for seeing Mt Zion rock, the rock where Bob Marley sit and wrote some of his song, 9 miles is a place to see before you die.

This is a must see for any Marley fans. The tour guides are great, especially the laugh. I was surprised to learn that contrary to what my Lonely Planet book said the guides are only paid about $20 a week and really survive on their tips. I recommend sitting down and getting to know them, they have some great stories that are not part of the tour. I also really enjoyed meeting some of the locals who come to play in the courtyard, the Banjo Guy was really cool. Over all there is just a good peaceful vibe about the place. The food at the museum is Okay, portions are kind of small. I would highly recommend the health food place across the street, it is vegetarian but it is excellent. Don't be afraid to get into a game of dominoes with some of the locals but do expect to lose.

Nine Miles is a great trip! You arrive at these 30' high purple wooden gates. The Rastaman opens the gate just enough for the driver to enter the compound and locks the gates behind us. The moment you get out of the car you are greeted by a Rastaman who states clearly that the laws are different inside these walls. There are cannabis plants growing wild everywhere and there are some rastamen selling cups of "herbal" tea and joints that contain about half an ounce of herb. I had to break this joint down because it was way too big. You can smoke herb freely at will throughout the entire compound. Your Rasta guide takes you through these black gates and up a steep walkway that is beautifully paved with lage curved paving dtones with zaza grass growing between them, immaculately trimmed. I decided immediately that this is what I want to do with my garden. When we got to the end of the walkway, there were more gardens and Bob's house and mausoleum. It was in the gardens that I met Jardie, the Rastacat. A cute little black cat, very mellow and friendly. The Rasta guide said that Jardie is laid back because he is exposed to a lot of second-hand ganja smoke. I scooped up little Jardie and carried him around for the next part of the tour until we had to remove our shoes to go into the house (irie mon!). The meditation stone is in a sort of little courtyard between the house and mausoleum. Everything is painted all nice, but it is easy to see beneath the paint that Bob was brought up in very humble surroundings. The ride to Nine Miles takes you through a lot of villages, very poor people, but don't sleep on the journey - there is a great opportunity to see the real Jamaica on the way. Our Rasta guide also talked a bit about the Rastafarian religion, which was interesting. The trip to Nine Miles set the mood for the rest of the holiday. It was a great experience.

We hired a driver for the afternoon to visit Bob Marleys house, it was a truly amazing time, from the moment you step foot in the place you feel 'something' not to sure but it feels good. Our guide was Fuzzy, and he was just the best, he sung Bobs songs when he was telling us about him, i believe if you visit Jamaica then nine mile is a must, after you visit you can say you have really experienced the island!!!
