“We had the most amazing time!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2012

My husband and I stayed at Sandals Royal Caribbean for 3 weeks February 2nd to 23rd so the chances are are our stay must have overlapped with Fran C's "what a disappointment review"
This is the first time I have ever written a review on a hotel.
OUR ROOM
We chose a Royal Beachfront Suite with butler service. Particularly because we wanted to see and be close to the sea. The swim up suites are set back in the gardens. Our room was actually ocean/East pool view. There are four different pools on the resort: Main Pool, East Pool, Private Island Pool and the long narrow one in front of the swim up suites.
Later on in our stay we expressed an interest in the swim-up suites and were moved to one - without any effort on our part. Both rooms were kept spotlessly clean (and tidy) at all times and everything worked fine, although water pressure/temperature in the beachfront suite was a bit variable at peak times.
Sometimes we had our "Do Not Disturb" sign out in the early evening when turn-down service did their rounds, but we still came back to find the bathroom cleaned and the bed prepared for sleep after we returned from the evening out, without us having to ring housekeeping. The maids leave a note to say they've been but you were busy.
We had been to this resort 3 times, most recently 6 years ago and we noticed many improvements. Improvements are constantly being made, in fact a fire pit was started and finished while we were there and we noticed a lot of work going on in rooms.
STAFF:
All staff we encountered were fantastic. Our butlers, Hughell and Ellis, were outstanding, as were Albert and Verna at the pool bar - in fact Verna remembered me and even what job I did from our last visit. The entertainment staff were also superb and the gardeners do a wonderful job keeping the grounds looking perfect.
If I had to find fault with the service it would have to be in the Regency restaurant. Many times our water was served from a height and slopped all over the table cloth by some indifferent staff members. We came to laugh about it and call it "water Jamaican style" but it really should not have been served like that and on reflection we should have mentioned it.
We had no trouble in getting water at the bars. There are also several water stations set up across the resort with iced water, cans of coke/sprite etc. for you to help yourself. We did not see any broken glass anywhere on the resort.
We did encounter a problem, which I won't go into here as it wasn't all to do with SRC staff in particular. After making it known to the management straight away, we received an apology and a special make-it-up-to-you, which I also won't go into here as it may spoil a wonderful surprise for someone else who may be deserving of a management apology. But believe me it was one fantastic sorry!
I would advise everyone to always point out a problem immediately - they do happen - and not to let it simmer and eat away at you till it completely ruins your holiday. Most management teams will be grateful to be given the opportunity to put things right. If they don't, there is always the head office above them. I haven't heard of an hotel manager yet who would risk ignoring you once you mention their head office.
I am so convinced that SRC provides a truly wonderful experience, that I have just booked this resort for my son and his new wife-to-be for their honeymoon in August and I'm sure they will be delighted with the Royal.

Room Tip: We originally booked a Royal Beachfront Suite (105 Balmoral) with butler service, but also tried the...

Just returned from royal Caribbean on march 8th, we had a wonderful time a big thanks to the staff Shelly Ann , Hollywood , skye, Jeffery and Verna and all the rest of the staff. Yes it is a small resort and that's what make it so special. It is so nice to look at the island while sitting at a table located on the beach having lunch. They have 4 pools and 5 Hot tubs that are hot, we enjoyed them all. I will be looking forward to returning next year.

we had an excellent vacation at sandals grand riviera last year so we decided to try the royal caribean in montego bay this year.what a mistake.the whole resort is getting run down.lets start with the room.the rug beside the bed was so filthy i wouldnt stand on it with my bare feet, the toilet barely flushed (had to use the one in the resort one day)and when we had a shower water got all over the floor unless the shower head was positioned just right.this is probably one of there oldest resorts but hasnt been maintained and kept up even though its advertised as 5 star with 5 star prices. we found the staff to be rude on a number of occasions. i dont drink alcohol so thinking i'm making it easy i would usely ask for water and for some reason they didnt like that and would usely give me a dirty look and just walk away but get the water.everywhere we went someone would try to sell you something on the resort and off. we seen broken glass in the garden and even on the beach!

Room Tip: ask for a room recently renovated if possible

We just loved our stay at this dreamy location! Room in the Kensington building (314) was perfect! Clean and could see the ocean right from our bed. Ordered breakfast twice from our room after a good work out at the gym (which is super nice) and a nice swim at the Kensington pool.
Quiet place, home feeling not too big not too small just perfect for couples who want to enjoy eachothers company. If you are more like the party type go to the Montego Bay, everyone including the people who want to be quiet at the Royal will be happy.
Food was excellent, I suggest not making tons of reservations after all you are on vacation and who needs to look at the clock all the time to be on time. There are enough choices and good food without reservation. The Pavillion ( no reservation ) has the best tasty steak. Loved the French (le jardinier), Thai was ok but very windy, Italian at montego bay was also nice (lasagna great) . Personally, we prefered eating at the Mariner on the beach.
We decided not to go on tours but to rent twice cabanas. Excellent choice. One on the Island, and the other on the main land to enjoy our last day since we lost our room at 11h00. We loved it. Felt like having a butler, we were pampered with drinks, snacks, solar cream and all...
Try to spend a day on the Island the water is so nice and warm. We also enjoyed snorkling very romantic and beautiful. We enjoyed everything the resort had to offer, went for a full day at the Montego Bay resort , liked it but was nice to go home to our resort.
If like us you want a nice time as a couple you won't regret it, if you are under 30...maybe too young!!
Be prepared it's windy (march) and the peacocks could be loud at night!
We will go back in five years.

I loved this resort. Elegant, classy, and beautiful and yet because of it's relatively small size, you got to know other guests over the course of the week. Staff was very friendly. It was our first time in Jamaica, and we were very impressed by the warmth of the people and the natural beauty and vegetation. The shows varied in quality but still worth attending most evenings. Enjoyed the sailing and snorkeling. Must go to the Island restaurant, more for the romantic setting at night as the Thai food is not very authentic. Went on tour of YS falls, Black river and appleton estate. Loved YS falls, next time would try to arrange a private tour to spend more time there. We had least expensive rooms, but were still very nice. Great food, ate way too much. Don't forget white clothes for white night!

Its true what people say about sandals...once you go, you will never go to another resort. We had the most wonderful stay at this resort. We booked the standard deluxe room and got upgraded to the royal deluxe room with a pool view. As other reviews may have mentioned about some rooms needing upgrade, who cares. The room had a wonderful bed, whirlpool tub, double sink vanity and a great patio to sit out in. The peacocks frequently met us when we left in the morning. Others mentioned about having difficulty getting reservations at the Thai and French restaurants...it also doesn't matter. We arrived on Monday and got a reservation at the French restaurant for Saturday, but we found the food was just as good at the other restaurants. We opted to not go to the Thai restaurant...but did enjoying visiting the island. The pool and beach over there was wonderful. The main beach may not be that big but you were always able to find a couple of chairs that made you happy. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is amazing....especially executive sous chef junior mowatt. My wife has celiac disease, and he met us at almost every meal to advise her on what she could have, and even delivering her food to her that he made personally at some meals. He baked her fresh gluten free bread every day. The entertainment staff go out of their way to entertain you. They work endless hours. You will see them first thing in the morning, and they will still be around late in the evening. We enjoyed soaking up the sun on the beach, since it had a nice breeze. Dips in the water both at the pools or at the beach are very refreshing. The firepit was nice and relaxing. Some people did not enjoy the photography staff, since photos are expensive, but you dont have to buy them, it is fun to look at them at the end of the trip at the photo shop, and the photographers were alot of fun...and there is nothing better then getting to pose with your loved one and hold that kiss pose with the sunset as your background. If you have tickets to this resort, you have made the right decision. We will be back.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade and it seems you will usually get it.

Just returned from two weeks at this Sandals resort. Staff were incredible, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Excellent food in the four restaurants (two have to be pre-booked) and all waiter service in the evening. Buffet service only at breakfast and lunch.
Have to be organised booking the Thai and French restaurant so do it on arrival. Great to be able to travel to two other Sandal properties close by (free shuttle laid on all day and evening) and we definitely thought the Royal Caribbean was the best by far. Montego Bay very noisy and full of youngish Americans/Canadians who wanted to party into the night.
Hotel Carlyle was very tatty and did not look at all like the picture in the brochure. It was very small and very tired looking and on a main room overlooking a tiny public beach.
We stayed in the Windsor rooms at the Royal Caribbean which overlook the beach and private island - absolutely gorgeous. You do get some noise but generally everything finishes at 11 ish or before. Some aircraft noise but at Montego Bay it is deafening!
Would recommend this hotel to anybody who likes great food and wanting a quietish relaxing holiday. The only negative thing is that our room and especially the bathroom could do with a major makeover as was rather old and old fashioned.

Room Tip: Check which block you have been allocated as they vary an awful lot
