We went to jamaica with a open mind, we left a few pounds lighter not because of a diet but because we didn't stumble upon Toscanini until our last 3 days on the island. It was the highlight of our trip, the food was fantastic, the only thing it needed was a lil live music and it would've been the best place to go on the island period. The food was great, it wasn't cheap but it was worth it. If fie dining is what your looking for, then this is it. Its not like going to a chain restaurant or a place that uses frozen food out of a bag, everything is hand made and sculpted like edible art. The only bad thing i could say about this place is the fact that stray animals (cats and dogs) walk onto the property, but are quickly shooed away.

We made a reservation on line prior to our trip to Jamaica and the owner, Lella, responds with a welcoming invitation to join her for dinner. We were a little hesitant because we are already paying for an all inclusive, but we wanted to try something different. We decided to go and it was probably the best decision we made all week. The evening and dinner was fabulous. She had one of her wait staff come to our resort to pick us up, and he returned us after the evening was over. What a nice touch. When we arrived it was a quiet evening (slow) and Lella came over to introduce herself. We sat and chatted for awhile about various topics and some history about her restaurant and the art gallery. She explained the entrees on the extensive menu (chalk boards) and gave us some time to look them over. Cocktails were ordered and made to perfection using top self liquors. After some time Lella returned and assisted us with ordering our meals and wine. The choices and the food were stunning. We enjoyed ourselves so much we wanted to return prior to coming home, but unfortunately were never able to find time to fit another visit in. Hopefully we will get a chance to return in the future. Thank you Lella, it was a very pleasant evening and nice meeting you.

Amazing spiny lobster - poached , soft , sweet tender and delicious. best i ever had.Wonderful fresh bread in a country where we found bread to be uninteresting .

Extraordinary setting of Colonial charm matched by the attentiveness of the proprietress, Lella.
The best review is that we are returning for our second dinner in 5 days this evening.

During high school years I did a paper on Arturo Toscanini who was a great symphony conductor. When I learned that there was a restaurant by that name in Ocho Rios I knew we had to dine there. It is a few miles outside Ocho Rios so we drove to it a day early so as to make sure we could find it.

The restaurant is in an old house with a long front outside stairway that apparently leads to some antiques. The restaurant is on the ground level. There are a few tables inside but all the guests our evening dined on the veranda or porch. The house is set back from the road so it was quiet and the setting was very attractive. The menu is contained on two large chalkboards that are carried around and placed next to the next table to order. They were somewhat difficult to read but the menu was extensive and interesting.

My friend with whom I was dining was probably the only Jamaican in the place. I attribute this to two factors - the high prices and the lack of any Jamaican dishes. After all, this is an Italian restaurant. We both had a pork dish. It was not as expensive as some of the other dishes and we both like pork. The serving was large and excellent. It was served with potatoes and fresh vegetables. We had the house wine (a merlot) and it also was excellent. The restaurant has a pretty extensive wine list.

All in all we heartily enjoyed our meal and the evening. We concluded the evening by going to the interior of the restaurant that is lined with book and pictures. Several of the pictures are of Arturo Toscanini and we confirmed that the restaurant is named after the conductor.
