We visited Dunn’s River Falls on the recommendation of many whom raved about its natural beauty. Beautiful it was, however our visit was marred by long lines, excessive waiting, and overcrowding. We were on an excursion from our cruise ship...had we known that six other cruise ships would be bringing guests to Dunn’s River Falls at the same time, we wouldn’t have bothered. We waited in the heat, shoulder to shoulder with others, from the moment we exited the tour bus. Over an hour later, a guide was finally available to take our group of about 25 to the falls. We made a human chain and we began our climb, which was exhilarating but somewhat more treacherous than expected. Several other groups began their climb along with us and it didn’t take long before people cut in front of others. Our chain was broken and my family became separated. We lost sight of our guide and did our best on our own, with occasional assistance from other guides along the way. We exited climb the first chance we had as there were just too many people to enjoy ourselves, and we had no guide to speak of. I realize Dunn’s River Falls is a major attraction but on this day it seemed they were content to cram people in and make money. As an aside, on the way out of Dunn’s River Falls you must follow a path lined with overly aggressive vendors. Beware of their ploys to call you over or shake your hand and try to give you something for “free”, which they then expect you to pay once they have your attention.
