“March get-a-way”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2012

Went to Swept Away March 17th-24th. Flew with Delta Vacations and had a direct flight from Detroit Mi. Arriving at the airport was about a 45 min. wait thru customs. Then went to the Couples Lounge for about 20 minutes. This lounge was a nice change with drinks and a bathroom. Usually we head out to the parking lot and have to find our tour company people for the shuttle ride to the resort. At the lounge they will tag your luggage with whatever couples you are going to and then just have to wait for your resort name to be called. About an hour and 20 min. ride to resort. But I really enjoyed the scenery on the way there and chatted with people on the bus. Driving on the opposite side of the road was different for us.
Upon arriving to the lobby, we were greeted with a washcloth and champagne. Went right to the check in desk. Have heard other comments about check in being slow. This was not so with us. There were 5-6 people behind the desk eagerly to help. Check in was a breeze. We reserved a beach-front veranda suite in the new section with a TV. We got 3rd floor. Thought I wanted a 1st floor, but 3rd floor corner room was the best for view and privacy. There was not much privacy on 1st floor. The gentleman said if we were not happy with the room, we could switch , but we were happy. Corner rooms have a side and front view. Middle rooms , just front. Yes, beach front verandas is a little pricey, but so worth it. It was 4:00 and our room was ready.
The room had a tropical feel and was a little older. Im used to marble-glitz and glamour at new resorts. Because of the view and tropical vibe-it was fine. Alot of wood. Bed was a wood frame and very comfortable. Flat screen TV on the wall with alot of channels. We were signed up for the romance rewards and the mini bar was stocked with exactly what we requested. Every night we slept with the patio doors wide open and the ceiling fan on. It was the best listening to the waves and frogs & crickets.
Room service-only in the morning. There is a tag on your door knob. Fill this out before you go to bed and put it on the outside door. Someone will pick it up at night. There is a continental choice. I only wanted coffee and milk and orange juice. You can pick the time when to have it delivered. They were right on time every morning. My husband went jogging on the beach every morning and I sat on the patio with my coffee and the million dollar view and watched the resort come to life. This was one of the best times of the trip. Ha! The coffee is strong-just add more milk.
There are 2 orientations daily to tour the resort. Glad I went, met new people just getting there also. They take you on a walk around the resort and to the spa-gym area across the road. Learned a few pointers, like were the martini bar was. Ha! The spa-gym area was one of the best I have ever seen at a resort. Pool was nice, so was the gym under a thatched palapa. Big aerobic room. There is a TV there in a lounge area and a health bar. They were making all kinds of smoothies and vegatable drinks. There is a hot tub there also. A jogging track goes around the whole area and around the tennis courts. Spa was kinda pricey-did not use any services.
Beach-This is the main reason people go here. Pure white clean sand and clear water. It is a public beach, but we enjoyed people watching and taking long walks. Enjoyed viewing other resorts and all the places to eat and shop. Walked to Margaritaville. Very short walk, 5-10 min. No problem getting beach chairs in the morning. Always seem to find 2 somewhere. But it is impossible to get a palapa it seemed. But we did not want these, wanted to be in the sun. The bar beach huts had alot of drink choices on the menue. They also had Miller Lite in cans at the huts. We brought insulated mugs to keep our drinks cold. The cushions on the beach chairs can be floated in the water and pools. This is the best idea ever. Went to the swim up pool bar in the afternoon for a change of pace. The pool here is small compared to alot of other resorts.
Restaurants-There are 2 places you have to make reservations for. Didnt have any problems doing this. Ate at Feathers once and Lemongrass 2 times. Up the stairs to the Lemongrass is where the martini bar is. Food was fine all around . We ate at all the places. The chicken seemed to be the biggest hit. I ate alot of red snapper all week. There is snapper sandwiches at the swim up pool restaurant and at sea grapes on the beach. Saturday nights they have lobster at all the restaurants. Friday night is a beach buffet. That was a very nice set up-so dont miss that. One night they have a beach bonfire. Wine-I discovered that the rose` wine was better than the red and white. Patois has stuffed french toast for breakfast and good pizza for supper.
Excursions-we have done so many from years of traveling, we did the least here. Did take advantage of the sunset catamaran cruise that goes by Ricks Cafe and made a stop to let us swim in a cave, and use the slide on the boat. They do serve a rum punch-which I did not like, so
I had a beer. Do take tip money on this trip. There also is a free snorkle excursion that we did. Make sure you sign up a day ahead of time. Also have to sign up ahead for the catamaran trip. There is a free glass bottom boat ride-did not do this. One day we signed up for a shopping trip and to Ricks Cafe. They pick you up at the shore excursion desk and take you to a craft mall and local craft area , then off to Ricks to watch cliff divers. This is a good way to see the town. We were the only people signed up for this trip, so we got to leave whenever we wanted and just told the driver. This trip only cost 20.00$. At the shore excursion desk , they have alot of choices for things to do.
Being here, I do get the "Jamaican Vibe". Dont let the vendors on the beach scare you. Just say ( no thank you ). Would we go back-yes-someday. I usually book different places every year.
Take alot of sunscreen.
I take a pool float with me on trips-dont need it here.
Took snorkel equipment-used 1 hour on the snorkel trip-they do provide eqipment though.
Take insulated mugs.
Dont take alot of clothes-Just wore bathing suit and cover up, and dinner clothes at night. Men-make sure you have pants, closed toed shoes, and a collar and sleeved shirt for the 2 places for dinner that you need reservations for. Khackies, polo shirt, and shoes are fine.
The rose' wine tastes like white zinfandel and is good.
Coffee is stronger here. Had to use extra milk and a little sugar.
One day, go to the other Couples resort for a change of pace. They do have a free shuttle to go there. Have to sign up for this also. It was nice to see it, and a chance to see bloody bay.Had drinks and lunch there and hung out at their beach and pool.
The piano bar was fun, also enjoyed the martini bar. Did not go to the night club.
The resort has a very tropical feel. Alot of Palm trees, flowers, and fish ponds. This takes the place of a new and marble feel. Glad we went! Didnt encounter any issues. Check out went smooth. The gift shops at the resort doesnt take cash, so we just had to pay at checkout. Went to breakfast and the bell hops came for the luggage and took down to the shuttle back to the airport. Good and relaxing trip.

Room Tip: Loved 3rd floor corner room-beach front veranda in new section with a TV. Make dinner reservations e...

Our first night at CSA was wonderful. We had no problems checking in and found the rooms to be accurate with what various reviews stated. We were in room 5113 in the building that is connected to Patois and Feathers.

Food was wonderful and the service amongst the general staff was pleasant.

Our problems began our second night when we decided to call it a night at 12:30AM. We closed the door to our porch and we noticed instantly that the party music from 4 hotels down could not be drowned out by the A/C or the fan. The DJ sounded like Lil Jon sans any talent and kept blowing a bull horn every 5 minutes throughout his set.

Calling front desk led to a discussion with the manager of the resort who stated that CSA is in a party zone and that the nearby party has a permit to continue until 2AM at this decibel and should lower their noise afterwards. He would not switch our rooms for the night. He told us that there have been numerous complaints but since it is a party zone, there is nothing that can be done.

So we waitd until the music was lowered and fell asleep around 2AM.

Next day, we ran into the manager outside of our room as we came to change for dinner. He stopped us and re-opened yesterday's wound, going on about the permits and it is expected for it to be noisy and there were no other rooms. So then we went tit for tat and told him that our mini bar still hadnt been restocked from our first night and he said it was probably because we were in the room and hadnt heard them knocking and that they should be around soon.

CSA could be a top notch resort but their service amongst upper management is lacking. The general staff goes out of their way to make the guests feel special because they appreciate tourists in their country, but the management prefers to not take responsibility and instead pushes it to somebody else.

We will not be returning.

Room Tip: Pay more to get a room away from the noise and then compare that price with a more up to date resort...

Our first holiday in Jamaica but be prepared for a 90 minute journey from Montego Bay airport.
Our room was not ready so we were housed in the Great House for the first night and received a $100 credit. After checking two other rooms (very dated and tired, hotel needs refurbishing) we decided to stay in the Great House only because we had a large room and well placed. Both my wife and I are golfers and we always take our own clubs. The golf and transport may be free but a cart is necessary $35 plus a caddie $28 and although we were told not to tip, believe me you must tip about $25. Therefore golf costs for two $83 and the course is not worth it. Greens and fairways poor and no investment put back into the course.
The best part of the holiday were the staff who were very pleasant and accommodating. If you want a sunbed get up early there are some sad b'stards who are up at 6am placing towels on beds. The culprits were not the Germans but the Americans, get a life. We will return to Jamaica but try a different hotel.

Room Tip: beach front rooms are best. Visit Chocolat in the Piano Bar he is excellent

April 1st-April 8th, 2012
Couples Swept Away, Negril, Jamaica

We are a 40ish couple, no children who have traveled extensively. We’ve done multiple cruises, land trips both domestically and abroad. This was our second trip to Jamaica; the first was 2011 to The Jewel in Ocho Rios. This year we decided to go to Negril based on the great reviews of the beaches. We are easygoing people, not too picky eaters and are not big drinkers. All-inclusives usually do not pay for us, but we loved this trip to Couples and are already planning our trip back as we write this in the MB airport.

Travel
We flew United out of Newark, NJ, non-stop 3 hrs 17 minutes into Montego Bay. Upon arrival we checked in at the Couples desk, where they tagged our luggage and we waited 15 minutes for the shuttle. There is a bar there, but we were hungry and there is no food to purchase in that section of the airport. The ride is approximately 1 ½ hours and we luckily had power bars with us, but you should be prepared with food on your own. We did not make a stop as some of the buses did for a rest room break. We certainly could have asked for one, but were anxious to get to the resort. On the return shuttle, the ride was just over an hour, so better coming back.

Room
Our room was 1211, a beautiful corner room on the 2nd floor with a large balcony. Flat screen TV, mini-bar which was restocked daily based on our requests. Room had a rustic feel and was very comfortable. We had read that the rooms were dated, but we did not find this to be the case, even though we learned during the week we were in the older section near the Palms restaurant. It was a good location, no issues at all with housekeeping or towels. We had read about ants and had stuck a few ant traps in our suitcase. I did see very tiny ones the first day in the bathroom, but after I stuck the trap in the bathroom, no further issues. The one issue as people have stated prior was the road noise. I am a light sleeper, and usually do use earplugs normally when traveling. I did have to get up certain mornings and needed to be able to hear the alarm, so this was an issue for me. The road was noisiest during the week starting around 6:30 as local people went to work. Even though it is a 1 lane each way road, it sounded like a freeway, lots of beeping as people passed the guardshacks on the road and they were easily doing 50-60mph on this street. On the first night, the front desk was accommodating and gave me keys to look at another room at the opposite end of the resort by the Great House and on the 3rd floor. Again it was closest to the street and the noise was the same. We decided to stay in 1211 as it was a nicer room. This was the one downside to the resort for us. My husband did better sleeping, but as stated above, I needed to be up and hear an alarm, so I didn’t sleep as well as I would have hoped. The rooms closer to the water and away from the road are spectacular, but of course there is a price difference 

Grounds
The resort grounds are beautiful, plants and flowers and very tropical in nature. Very well kept and clean, there were always people out tending to the gardens, grass and trees. We loved that the resort was more spread out and never found it crowded. Sometimes we even looked at each other and said “where is everyone?”

Sports/Fitness
Sports Complex is located across the street from the resort. Gym is open-aired and one of the largest that we have seen at a resort. 5 Treadmills, few ellipticals and all the free weights and machines that rival a regular commercial gym. Jogging track around is about .4 miles start to finish and there are multiple tennis courts, indoor squash and racquetball courts (I learned to play for the first time ever). Also indoor aerobic studio with classes and fully stocked with equipment. Yoga & Pilates classes as well as spinning, body sculpt, pool aerobics. Also, beautiful lap pool which was always empty! Never crowded. If you are an active person wanting to keep up your routine (as we are), you will love it.

Beach
We are avid Aruba fans (been there over 10 times), never having found a beach that can measure up to Palm Beach there until now. The Negril beach is on par if not surpasses the Aruba beach, which I never thought I would say. The water is crystal clear as far as you can walk out; warm enough to just walk right into without a shock and soft, white sand, no shells at all. Floats on each chair were great (some need replacing though). We believe that the resort was not at capacity this week; we never had a problem finding chairs even when we got to the beach around 11am or so. Sometimes we did have to search a bit for shaded areas, but always found some. There’s always chatter about the palapas and we learned during the week, that people were paying the beach guys to reserve the palapas for them when they started work around 5am. This was confirmed when chatting with one of the guys ourselves, he offered to do it for us. We didn’t take advantage of it, but it’s no longer a mystery why those people getting out there at 6am still can’t get a hut. There are a lot of locals walking the beach selling things, wanting to play music etc, all trying to make a living. They are restricted from coming up onto the beach, you need to go to them. We didn’t find it a problem. On the last day it was my husband’s birthday and as we watched the sunset, I had a guitar guy do a reggae rendition of Happy Birthday and then he played 3 more songs for us. It was terrific for just a few dollars! You can walk as far as you can, Beaches resort is on one side and going the other direction, starts small little hotels and restaurants, shops etc. Couples security took our room number once we left the property going that direction, but it was fine. Just say no thank you when approached for things. Margaritaville is within walking distance that direction, but of course we had everything included, so no need to pay for drinks there.

Food/Restaurants/Bars
We decided prior that we were not dressing up so we were limited to The Palms and Patois restaurants. We knew that the Beach Party was on Friday night, so it was 6 nights at the others. We had read some reviews where people said The Palms served the same food all the time. I don’t get it. The menu changed nightly with 4 main options each night, appetizers, soups, extensive salad bar, and pasta bar and desserts. The buffet night (which I think was Monday night at The Palms), was outstanding. Wine and alcohol flowed freely. We thought the food was excellent and we live near NYC, etc and have a lot of great restaurants close to us. The service was also excellent, a few mornings coffee was slow at The Palms, but otherwise the servers were right on top of you. Sometimes they wanted to clear the plates too fast! We ate 1 night in Patois (yes you can wear flip-flops, they were the only shoes on my husband’s feet all week). Food and service excellent! We had the continental delivered to our room one morning right on time. One other morning we had put the form out, but no one had picked it up. Not the end of the world, we walked to the Palms. Every day we remarked that the food was changing, and that it was excellent. We were waiting for a meal that we felt was just ok, but it never happened. The pool snack bar was good and we picked up snacks from SeaGrapes café a few times while on the beach. The fruit plates are out of this world.

Entertainment
Top notch. Bands, guitar players, all musicians were terrific. Don’t miss the bonfire on the beach with the guitar player. Great voice. Also some mornings live music with breakfast at the Palms, nice touch.
Steel Drum band – don’t miss them. A couple of nights there were a dance troupe, which really isn’t our thing, but others liked them.

FYI
We did read about some people getting bit by mosquitos. I took spray and we did use it before leaving for dinner every night. We didn’t have a problem and my husband is usually very tasty to the bugs. We did see a girl on the catamaran trip that had bites all over her, so yes they are out there, but if you are prepared it shouldn’t be an issue.

We would and will return in a heartbeat. Loved the people, the resort, the beach, the food, and everything else! Email me with questions or concerns: kathleen@silvertotalfitness.com Thanks

Room Tip: Stay off the strip of room closest to the road if you are a light sleeper, noise will be an issue fr...

My husband and I stayed at CSA for the first time for a week towards the end of March. We had the most relaxing holiday ever! We stayed in a beach front verandah suit on the ground floor in block 45 and it was amazing! We've never had a room with such a perfect location and view before. I loved being able to walk out onto the beach from my room every morning and the sunsets from our balcony/terrace were unbelievable. The beach down this end of the resort just seemed the nicest too. It was definately widest here so felt like you had more space and quieter. The rooms themselves are pretty basic and rustic but very clean and I loved the plain wooden furniture. Yes the bathrooms could potentially do with a bit of a revamp but again they were clean and functional. The girl who cleaned our room did a brilliant job.

The things that people complain about at this resort in other reviews, just didn't happen to us. The key cards to our room always worked. The service honestly, without exception, was always fast and efficient, this surprised us the most I think. Not everyone was super over the top friendly (as a British person we don't expect that anyway) but we never waited long for anything at this resort. There were so many sunbeds on the beach it was unbelievable. My husband and I did laugh about the fact we were worried before going about getting sunbeds, when we saw on the first morning how many there were! Yes the main palalpas go early, but there are palm trees lining the whole of the property's beach if you need shade. You might have to move your sunbed a bit to get in it, but there's loads of shade and space. I think people who moan about lack of sunbeds are either too lazy or just don't like to leave the section of the beach right in front of their room to look for another spot. Trust me, you'll laugh when you see the number of sunbeds!!
Other things like our mini bar being filled with exactly what we asked for was great. I loved my bottle of vodka and Caribe beers! The beach sellers were also not as annoying as I thought they'd be. Either a polite no thanks or just don't look up from your book and they wouldn't bother you at all. I miss the Ciggerrettes man and also the singers. One group of singers had a double bass and were awsome! If anything the jet skis going up and down all day were more annoying. But then I saw a lot of tourists using them so who am I to complain about other people having fun.

The food was great. My favourite was the buffet breakfast at the palms, the buffet dinner at palms on a Monday night, the cabana grill for lunch ( jerk chicken sandwich is amazing) and the shrimp pizza at Patois is great. We mainly stayed at the beach bar right outside block 45 - Kurt the bar tender was easily the best member of staff I came across at CSA - but we found on the last day you could get shave ice from one of the bars further down the beach so try and make yourself try out all the bars and restaurants in case you miss something. The cocktail lists at all the bars was the longest list I've come across at an AI before.

Overall it was a great place to stay. The beach as everyone says is of course the main selling point, but the hotel, food, staff, facilities are great too. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I think there won't be many places on earth you'll be happy if you don't like it here, it's just beautiful. You must bear in mind this is not a brand new marble 5 star resort like you get in Mexico, it's not on a private beach it's on Negril beach, a busy, popular beach. Don't go here if you want complete peace and quiet and luxurious rooms, only go here if you want an amazing beach, a fairly busy beach scene (not a party scene, just busy), lovely food and a relaxed atmosphere with other couples. NOT luxury, but clean, friendly, beautiful fun.

We have just returned from Swept Away having spent 2 weeks there. We had previously been to Couples Sans Souci so had high expectations as that had been fantastic. I have to say we were very disappointed for a number of reasons - don't get me wrong there was some great bits too.
Check in is slow if there happens to be several people checking in. You are provided with a cold drink and towell which is refreshing but after over 10 hours of travelling all you really want is your room!
The room was fine and more or less what the description is. They are looking tired though, bits broken - the pull cord on the lamp broken, the shower head and soap dish very loose and hanging off. I had done the pre check in for romance rewards as a returning guest but nothing I ordered was in the mini bar. Quite often throughout the stay we had to ask to have the correct items put in the mini bar and the coffee etc restocked as it wasn't done.
The food - Firstly The Palms. This is a typical buffet, breakfast was excellent with a huge choice of hot and cold. We did lunch once but weren't overly impressed. Dinner, well you have an a la carte menu plus the buffet however the buffet choice is limited to pasta, salad etc. the menu was at best ok. Service is pretty slow on the whole so be prepared to wait. The sides are open to the elements so no air con. I found it quite stuffy in there and really uncomfortable. This is where the evening entertainment is but can't really comment as didn't go to much. The only thing we did was watch the steel drum band, excellent and worth seeing. Adele played on steel drums!! Very good.
Feathers. You have to book this and you can only have one booking at a time. This was excellent in both food and service. Top quality with steak cooked to perfection. It tends to be a bit cold in there so take a wrap. This was 5 star food and service.
Lemon Grass - this is upstairs in the Palms and open air. Food was pretty good as was the service.
The beach bar does food from 11 am to 5 am and is really very good. Service leaves a lot to be desired but the food makes up for it. Jerk chicken, burgers, cheese tomato sandwiches etc.
Patios again is open sided but not so uncomfortable. Food is ok as is the service, nothing special and doesn't change much so not many options.
The piano bar is excellent. Service was good and the piano player ultimate chocolate is very talented. On the whole food and service is average apart from Feathers.
The service on the whole is not 5 star. It's slow and half the staff appear as if the cant be bothered. You keep hearing "this is Jamaica mon", yes I know and paid a considerable amount of money to be there and expect a certain standard for that price. We didn't get that.
Couples policy of no tipping is a joke. It's done all the time and you see it happening. It is very noticeable that the guests tipping regularly get better service. We saw this for ourselves.
The beach is fantastic with clear blue water and soft white sand. No water shoes required here. It's not a private beach so you do get vendors all day which I was worried about. No need, they stay along the edge of the water, never coming in to where most of the sun beds are. They will shout to tell you what they have, bracelets, cigarettes, cigars etc but never pester. You also get lots of people from other resorts walking along and often just stopping and using the beach. Bit of a pain when screaming kids are there given this is over 18 only!
Sun beds! Never known anything like it. If you want a nice spot with shade be prepared to get up early. Pretty sure some of the towels are actually going on the beds the night before! There are plenty of sun beds on the beach and at the pool though. The pool is fine, clean and safe. We only used the one with the swim up bar so can't comment on the main pool but it looks fine and is next to the Palms.
There is obvious drug taking (smoking) and dealing going on which I find concerning. It is blatant and could not be missed by staff or security. It was clear that some staff were assisting guests getting what they were after. Not acceptable and management need to get a grip of this. The staff are breaking the law. If that's your thing then fine but when it's done so obviously amongst other people on a busy beach it's not on. I did complain and something was done but surely security should be taking these steps without a complaint from guests.
My husband played golf a few times. This was fine apart from the first time. He booked it but was not told where to go so went to the main lobby. He waited there with his clubs witnessed by several staff members. He gave up waiting and left after 30 minutes. We then found that the pick up was the great house lobby. Now to me well trained and caring staff would have enquired if he was waiting for transport and explained he was in the wrong place. No, no one said a thing. Very poor customer service.
This is meant to be a couples over 18 resort however it was obvious while we were there that this is not strictly adhered to.
We did the repeaters dinner. This was fantastic. Food and service 5 star which makes you wonder why all guests can't receive this all the time!
On the whole we enjoyed our holiday, it was 2 weeks in the sun to chill out. I would not return to swept away but would still go to sans Souci. The service here is not up to standard and the staff need to cheer up a bit. not worth the money. Swept Away need to up their customer service, overall quality and do something about illegal activities taking place on the resort.
I gave this a 3 but it's between 3 and 4.

We came back for a 2nd visit! We swore up and down that we would never return to the same place twice as there are so many options in the world. However, we could not get Couples Swept Away out of our brains. After a lack luster trip to Mexico last fall, the more we wanted to come back to CSA. We were a little nervous we would be disappointed in a repeat perfromance, but we were definitely not! In fact, we think the 2nd time was better than the first time. We chose to stay in the atrium suite again, we love that room! We love the big balcony and hammock, it's like an entire additional room of outdoor living space. We wasted no time taking advantage of all the fabulous activites: kayaking, snorkeling, glass bottom boat, night snorkeling (!), water skiing, catamarn cruise... The watersports guys were always extremely helpful and knowledable. We loved the cabana grill for jerk chicken for lunch and for late night snacks. Sea Grapes has the most delicious fish tacos and sweet potato chips. And is there anything better than getting a self serve ice cream cone on the beach?? This time we saw the Silver Birds steel drum band for entertainment one evening, and they are AWESOME. They did some fantastic modern music (Rhianna, Adele) in addition to the more traditional stuff. Definitely catch this show! If you want breathtakingly beautiful beach, a relaxing vibe, excellent service, delicious food, this is the place for you! In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we come back again!

Room Tip: Choose the atrium suite!
